- In a great final the 21 year old, largely unknown ,Paul Ereng of Kenya, beat the defending champion Brazilian Joaquim Cruz with a perfectly timed home straight sprint.Winning bronze was, remarkably, the defending 5K champion Said Aouita of Morocco ,ahead of GB's Peter Elliott who was running after a series of pain killing injections. As the commentary says,,everyone ran too fast too early and paid the price.Apart from Ereng, of course. His light shone brilliantly but briefly, his athletic career all but over within a few seasons.
I mean Lekuta rules the track....but then you go back in history and witness how Ereng used to do it and you realize........ Kenya has had invincible men on the track.........simply superb.
Thanks for seeing this .Only critical thinkers can view some things in the lenses of history
Indeed there was Paul Ereng in the late 80s,when we were not technologically updated
BRAVO AOUITA CONTRE LES MEILLEURS ATHLÈTES DU MONDE DU 800M
Great to see aouita get a medal in a shorter distance for him, especially with carrying an injury.
There's the not so small matter of the winner: Paul Ereng!
milanya dennis timon expertly run race by ereng went just at the right time with 150 to go when everone else was tieing up
I remember at the time I was so annoyed at the British selection of leaving out seb coe he was coming into form in both the 800m and 15,00 m. and was the reigning champion at 15,00m
Ereng would beat him later.
If Elliott had attacked in the home straight he could of been Olympic champion, but burned himself attacking to early but learned his lesson in 1500 m with a medal later in the games
@@wambuguk.martin7056 Coe beat Ereng that year.
Not in 1988, he wasnt - 1989 yes, but not 1888
Bet Cruz was miffed that Barbosa foolishly left a giant gap for Ereng to run through around the turn.
Perfectly judged race by Kenyan, Paul Ereng. All the gaps opened up for him at the right time.
Ereng, Konchellah and later Rudisha
The Kenyans always seem to produce top class middle distance runners. The fact that they are able to train at altitude is a distinct advantage though.
Proud to be Kenyan.
And so you should be
like a hot knife through butter! ereng the legend!
Kiprotich won that for Ereng dragging Cruz early on too fast. Had Cruz been a bit more patient he would have been in the same place by 500m and had enough left in the last 100m to hold off Ereng and repeat.
Yes.
How so? Paul Ereng was the unknown. He was only 20 and was third in the Kenyan Olympic trials.
@kpk33x, you are right, that was proper team work and kudos to Nixon Kiprotich. You could see that towards the final third, Kiprotich is looking around for Ereng and at 1.30 when he sees Ereng coming through, Kip slows down, with his job well and truly done for flag 🇰🇪 and country 👍🏾👍🏾
@@kiswahilikitukuzwe2547 the Kenyans knew what they were doing. How else does Peter Rono win the 1500m in the same Games, but never another major intermational meet?
@@kiswahilikitukuzwe254723 for 200m
The unknown Kenyan taking the race.
😏
True, He was third at the Kenyan Olympic trials.
He was only unknown to those who didn't know, but those who were in the know, knew.
Why didn’t Said run the 1500 or 5000. He is great but considering he had the mile and 5000 world record speed it didn’t make sense.
@emanon emanon YEAH 😂 WHEN SEB COE WASN'T THERE!!!!!!!! IF COE HAD BEEN THERE,,,AS IN LOS ANGELES HE WOULD RUN AND HID IN THE 5000M,,,,,,
He got injured a few days before the final.
Like Cram, he raced too often
Agüita de 800mts a 10000 mts único exrraordinario
Aouita almost won if he wasn't bumped by the British runner! even with his hamstring injury Aouita did something maybe will never see ever a medal in 800m! he originally started as a marathon runner, then won the 5000m in Los Angeles, held 5 middle distances would records at once! he was true legend
Turkana & maasai tribes of KENYA might be good in 800m
💪❤
Aouita best of the best
No, he was the third among eight.

One world matrix global tyranny extending to athletics videos on UA-cam now. It wouldn't be so bad if the commentary on 'The Olympics' UA-cam channel wasn't so fucking awful. The commentators have never had time to even look at a pair of running shoes for being sent off for elocution lessons. The great British establishment won't learn its lesson.
Barbosa set too fast pace for first 200 for Cruz cost him another gold
Joaquim Cruz é o maior símbolo olímpico do Brasil
, Cruz should of won this if he had run even pace, and defended his title .
what a exciting race, for things like that i want to became an athlete :D
This is the famous football (soccer) announcer Ian Darke on the call of this race.
I have seen you to do coaching to korir saruni 800m on Flo track and mile split
Heroic performance from Elliot and makes you wonder if he hadn't been injured whether he could have achieved the double at Seoul. At least he blocked Aouita in the home straight, I'd never noticed that before. Looks like Aouita the cheater could have gotten at least silver otherwise - he was almost level with Ereng as they both started their sprint.
@HB Net Always the Aouita whining lot, even though anything he ever won was fuelled by drugs.
@HB Net Aouita should be so ashamed that he gives back his tainted medals.
Elliot, chicken?! I think you've got the wrong guy! He's a tough Yorkshireman and dodged nobody during his career. After these Olympics, he went home to get a groin strain healed and in this final was hampered by that injury. Elliot dodged nobody and was always gracious in defeat whilst joyous in victory, as it should be!
@HB Net This is because Elliot had a real injury in Seoul, unlike Aouita who faked it in order to save face at going home with a single bronze after boasting he would win gold in the 800, 1500, and 5000.
@@ianwhitehead5435 true, faced Coe, cram, overt regularly,
The Kenyan team selection at that time was amazing!!
Aouita was injured
aouita run with one leg
Sad time for all the morrocan
Did not like Aouita competed in 800m. He’s only expertise in 5000m. I think Donato Sabia regretted came to Seoul for to finish 7th. Hope for Olympic medal but no.
Ereng was not last at the bell, David Coleman!
Aouita the greatest middle distance runner of the history
