  • At the heart of mature manhood and womanhood is not the rivalry of competency, but a God-given sense of complementary roles.

I'm a 17 year old young man, i live with a single mother, I pray that I will become the man of christ I need to be. I struggle with insecurities and emotions. I know I need to overcome this since it is a severe issue. Self control is something I need because I will be a father one day.

    • @Monk7791
      @Monk7791 Рік тому +1

Insecurities and emotions is what makes us all human, it's not something specifically female. It is far more mature to accept them and integrate them. It's far worse if you would suppress them; how could you ever form a bond with a spouse (who is supposed to be your best friend) and children if you couldn't share your deepest inner feelings? That's just harmful. Of course, a severe, constant emotional unbalance is something else, when it would be a mental disorder or something, when it would be really problematic for yourself. But you are very young still, in general it is normal to go through such a period. Don't be discouraged, be patient with yourself, give it time. And indeed, prayer...

Darling, I'm going to tell you something very important.
There's no such thing as a "real man" there is only the man you can be and the man that you are.
Anyone who tells you that you are obligated to meet any marker that you yourself don't value to get or maintain your manhood is a person too insecure in themselves to decide who and what they should be.
Trust in God, not in human culture and you're likely to find the best path.
      Good luck.

Best piece of advice: find a godly, married, church-going man who is willing to mentor you!!!! If you don't know of anyone ask an elder or pastor in your local church if they know someone who is qualified to mentor you - a good church with healthy leadership will ensure you are paired with someone. Your desires are honorable, God bless you.

Because you desire Him you are already His. If I can give some advice… learn everything you can about our God and our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. And yes our minds, we have to think right because the devil will try to mess with your thoughts. Especially those of us who have the desire to know Him and live by His words. Remember what we’re fighting against. Spiritual warfare. And Jesus with the Holy Spirit is the only way to fight. He the Holy Spirit is in you already. Our mind. Our thoughts. But so is the devil. Fight the good fight Paul says. God Bless you and pray without ceasing and read read read His word. It has power for those with the desire to know Him. He and only He changes the hearts of those that desire Him. You’re already saved so arm yourself with the armor of God. Faith, Prayers, and His word. He will give you the eyes of understanding and the heart of a warrior. Don’t let the devil win over your thoughts. Because then it goes to your heart. Think right, and only His word shows you how to do that. Your 17, how I wish I would’ve have figured all this out when I was young. But cooking to him at almost 50 when I started following Him has changed my life completely. I don’t recognize myself from how I was before. And the blessings, oh the blessings. But that’s not why I wanted Him. That was just a bonus for me. But apparently it’s His promises. All I know is this peace I feel that is beyond comprehension that He tells us about. I have it. Even through bad seasons in my life. I get through them like a warrior knowing God is in charge and the comfort I get from Him is beyond anything.

If anyone is having trouble thinking about this I think the best way to see it is through the metaphor of Jesus as the groom and the church as his bride. One thing I have learned recently is the realness of that metaphor. Jesus gave his life for us, and protected us from harm, just like husbands should do for their wives, and on average God made men more fit to do this (being on average bigger, stronger, and more aggressive). God also gave in the hearts of men a yearning to protect. While people may be upset by this, when it comes down to it, men will generally be the ones to step up to the fight because it's engrained in us. It's also important to have the humility to realize that God's ways are better than our ways when something comes up in the Bible that we disagree with. Our mind to the mind of an ant is like God's mind to us. An ant can't possibly fathom our ways, in the same way we can't fathom God's ways, but we can trust that his ways are better.

The only women who would get offended by this are psychologically troubled.
The men are a different story.
God/Jesus had requirements for those he sacrificed for.
In a society that demonizes manhood, the visceral response from many is "what do I get for this?"
All of this "real men" "beta" "alpha" secular nonsense causes nothing but resentment and division.

@@Yuilen this feels like secular "religion" and not God.
I don't believe I've EVER heard a man of God speak on the women's role/requirements/prohibitions.
I heard secular videos on why there are fewer men in church and the churches conforming their beliefs to the world's view.

I think that pastor John made very good description of manhood.
Ef 4:13 "Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ."
Just refer the example Piper gave to Christ and his bride. Jesus defended his bride, the church against all evil things, satan, death, sin. He put himself in front and said "You touch her it will be over my dead body". And he put his body to death, he was heavily wounded but won the battle. He showed us perfect example of manhood and we should have such attitude toward our wives, being ready to lay our lifes down for them.
Ef 5:25 "Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it."
We the church can say now: "This is the kind of man I want to marry." And we cry out, and we wait, because we know there is no other!

aNotice how his leadership is not a tool to walk over her, but,he makes himself a good example and gives himself up for her(putting her first ),her lsubmission is actually honoring and trusting him with her life, two equal parts of a whole. Love and appreciationy of free will. I hope this softens the hearts of feminists and demanding men everywhere.

I was somewhat convicted by this. I am a woman but I have a hard time receiving the provision and protection aspect of manhood. I guess I've had to take care of myself (or so I thought) for so long, I'm ashamed if I can't pay for "my half" with friends or family (not to mention men!) when out and about. God is teaching me to receive bit by bit. But it seems like I'm taking forever to grasp on to the idea that I can't pay Him back, that everything is a gift...I guess that's why I'm not anywhere close to getting married! I wouldn't know how to receive what my husband's natural soul wanted to do for me...Thanks for the message.

Its very beautiful that you express yourself ... with some guys its best to pay for yourself but with the real guy ... the true man ... it would be a pleasure for him to take care of you and at that point you can relax because he would die for you and he would do it again and again if taken back in time! That's the guy you want.
There's a beautiful old persian poem by Hafez that sais:
      Even after all this time
The Sun never says to the Earth
      "You owe me"
Look what happens with a love like that
It lights up the whole sky

It's good you've seen and acknowledge where you're at. I believe a lot of our transformation comes gradually. As we all see God's design and the biblical truth about life, our hearts are inclined more and more to conform thereto.
Life is a gift. Eternal life is an unbelievable gift. To rest in this gift is pure beauty and therein is our work, obedience and fulfillment. Same goes for the gift of a true godly man.
Lord, help us to learn of you and enjoy the richness of the life you've given us and the roles they come with.

Lacey A. Yes and in reality, there are men that use it to dominate and manipulate with money, being the dominant partner, decision maker.
Four times I have allowed a man to be the man, despite me being independent, and not one of them was worthy. They didn’t make decisions, erratic, irresponsible, inconsiderate, selfish, lied profusely about their real circumstances/status (I earned as much as them or a lot more), lacked courage, lacked integrity, lacked decency, lacked empathy...
Many men pretend to be a good guy, then after some months the real them pops out by which time we might decide to run but they use drama or a pity ploy (usually made up, or they are psychopaths and don’t really care) to pull us back in.....
I’m now a bit old to trust again or been hurt too much.
I knew one wonderful man who was everything a man should be tragically, he was killed in action. He was my first real love, and I had naively thought that most or a good portion of men would be like him. I was very wrong.
I miss him so very much, I think of him daily. He was an honest, decent, hard working, loyal man who always stood up for what was right, no matter the cost to himself, he inspired me as he did with anyone he came into contact with. Even during the greatest trials of his life, with his life on the line, he was unflinching in refusing to compromise on his principles and decency. He was my best friend and my personal hero. I’ve tried to always live up to his example.
I don’t look at him with rose colored glasses, everyone knew him for who he was. But in today’s rapidly deteriorating society, I have found it harder to believe he was so good, each year it’s got harder because there’s so much darkness. He is still my Light.
I’ve given up, I think now, on being fortunate enough to meet another good man. I love you B and miss you with all my heart and soul.

God created man to be a spiritual leader in the union. To protect, provide, love and cherish her (covering). Not domineering, controlling but respect ; even giving the last bowl of rice to her like Christ died for the church. Too many broken marriages and families among God's people and most of the churches do not teach that from the Bible. Not the responsibility of the church but I am sure it will be of great encouragement to them. Most women are not covered by their husbands. Young men need to begin the practice of covering for their sisters or even sisters in Christ. Very very rare I see such act. God says My people perished for lack of knowledge. Such, given Satan an opportunity to come steal, kill and destroy. Broken relationship or broken families do not produce happy loving and peaceful environment for the future generations, do they? Time to get serious with the Word; be a doer and not a hearer only. Much love😊❤

Beautiful message. How refreshing. This is a description of a man! Period! Thank you for this.
My only gripe is that age need not have been mentioned. God desires this for all that he intends to put together in holy marriage ordained by Him., not just those in their early years. I know he meant that, but society including the church emphasizes youth and that’s great but in these times, those ordained to marriage are sometimes older than what it was and can feel left out and put to pasture and that’s not the case. I thank God for leading me to John Piper via Tim Keller. Amen.

A meek and quiet spirit does NOT mean you have to not talk or to not be yourself if you are a talkative person. A meek and quiet "spirit" (not mouth-the physical) is to be humble towards your husband and not arguing with him even when you know you're right. It also means not cutting people off and such. But if you are a talkative person, there is nothing wrong with that as long as you listen to him too.

Both have to be humble and listen to each other, take each other seriously, I think. I don't think a woman has to agree with every opinion her husband has. If people are able to have a normal, respectful conversation and listen to each other's arguments, that would be normal

Want to share about competencies. (I am a female, mentioned because people who are not from my country don't get my gender from my name). Being a science student in high school, physics was the toughest nut to crack for me, biology (and genetics) a breeze. But, anyways I had to pass and score good marks in physics practical exam too (different from theory exam which had far advanced topics in which too I remember I got a poor 67/100 in the very competitive 12th standard board exams). All through the year, circuits were beyond my reach. Practical sessions after practical sessions, I was 0 (blank) in them. And they were compounding in complexity with each subsequent session. Still I was just not able to figure out the beginning and ending of of it. Yet, 1 day before the practical exam , when there was desperation and I knew I cannot make it without passing the practical exam - I got the 'beginning and ending' of it (means I got it)! And passed the exam. Then after the exam, and till date I am still alien to those concepts. So, it must not be competency but disposition.

What I got out of this is not so much the young man "leading" the young "woman" in "the dance" -- but how respectful he was of her. She's got awesome organizational skills--she took care of the thugs, and she didn't leave the "wounded warrior." Nice story.

1 Corinthians 7:11: "A man ought not to cover his head,[b] since he is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man. 8 For man did not come from woman, but woman from man; 9 neither was man created for woman, but woman for man. 10 It is for this reason that a woman ought to have authority over her own[c] head, because of the angels."

Literally in Piper's analogy the man was not WITH the woman in a relationship. In fact, she was practically a stranger who he respected enough to defend. So your comment is contradictory.

What I have trouble with is that he is completely right. It's as if he is saying, it is okay to listen your male body and heart, which is essentially flesh. As I've grown older I realize I have to balance the truth of how my body functions and allow my mind to have awareness of this, and listen to my flesh but also let it be guided by the holy spirit. I have trouble because the bible says everything the flesh does is worthless, yet our spirits in the world we live in are one with our flesh in many ways and we cannot decapitate ourselves from our flesh or we will walk around suffocated and suffocate others as well. Females do not seem to understand this like men do. They don't see their mind and bodies as one whereas male who do not know this are not male. They become ambigious.

This is nice, but where is the scripture?
Edit: For those who don't have time for the full message, he goes on to concede to the objection that "this story was based only in western culture." After he delivers supporting scripture it distances itself from this very culturally appealing example. He cites Ephesians 5:22-33 which shows that men and women aren't taking their cues from western culture, but from the template created by Christ and the Church. He's showing that male headship modeled by Jesus is not a "get to" but a "must/have to". It is a burden to be a leader like Christ, and it's something you take on only through blessed calling from God. He also points out that the role of a woman (like that of the church) is not at all passive, but it active in every way. Though 1 Tim 2 doesn't permit women as elders, that is one of a thousands opportunities for women to lead and serve as the church does.
He ends with a call to men- "do you have a moral vision for your families, a zeal for the house of the Lord, a magnificent commitment to the advancement of the kingdom, an articulate dream for the mission of the church and a tenderhearted tenacity to make it real? You can’t lead a godly woman without this. She is a grand being!"

A real Man understands the basic fundamentals. He Builds, Constructs, Analyizes Facts, He Hunts and Gathers. He shuns religion that glorifies femminism like this Joker. He will... instead, seek out the dynamics of gaining the personal tools of self development and Leadership. E.g., (Dr. Jordan Peterson Clinical Pyscologist or Jocko Willink retired U.S. Navy Seal)

Yeah, maybe the way he says it could be seen as a little extreme. A husband should really love his wife though, and think very highly of her and be willing to put himself in harms way to protect her. If he only spends his time working on himself and ignoring his wife… well, that’s not marriage, it’s more of cohabitation.

I'm M / 16 and I've realized since I was a kid that I'm not like the other boys. I also watched princess movies all the time and secretly played around with my cousins' dolls and I’m into music by female artists. In principle, my father wasn't really there for me. However, in the end I was aware that I did not find myself valuable enough because I am like that. And since then I've also had fatal depression and am very, very dissatisfied with myself. I also pray every night. I've always wanted to be a masculine boy and show pride in my manhood. It makes me puke while hanging out with masculine guys because I'm not masculine in that sense.
I hope Jesus answers these prayers and can save me in this sense so that I can become more masculine and happy with myself

I don't know you of course, but aren't you too hard on yourself? In the example it was said that femininity and masculinity are not about certain competencies, appearances etc. (which I find very relieving!) In fact, it was pointed out, as I understood it, that the masculine role needs a great amount of sensitivity (which you seem to possess). Not all women like the stereotype of what is seen as a 'masculine' man (I certainly don't) but would immediately fall for a gentle, sensitive honest man. Maybe you are the 'artistic' type (which can be very attractive)? I'm very sorry you suffer from depression and low self esteem...that's very hard, I myself struggle with it still, although it's getting better, when I stay close to God. Feeling different, maybe (I don't know if you would call it that?) due to gender dysphoria...it can be really really hard. But God has made you as the person you are, you're extremely valuable and loved by Him. Keep trusting in Him, even if you don't 'change' in the way you seek...don't be fooled by the media either, reality is much more dimensional than the restricted, black-and-white picture they present.
