  • In physics practical work we frequently plot straight line graphs that we use to calculate an unknown quantity. But how is the graph used to determine the quantities of interest? In this video I explain how to compare the experiment's equation to y = mx + c so that we can relate the graph's gradient and y-intercept to unknown quantities. I then demonstrate the method by analysing three real equations and graphs:
    1. v² = 2gh
    2. R = ρL/A
    3. p = Wq/Mg + 0.2R/M
    You can download the worksheet I used in this video here: physicshq.wixs...
    In the follow up video [ • Analyse log graphs in ... ] I demonstrate the procedure for log graphs / equations.
    Relevant concepts: physics graphs, gradient, y-intercept, equation, algebra, straight line, graphical analysis

    I love your video sir😊. Explanation, simple. Sir the intercept being zero means that the graph has no intercept?😶

      Yes that is correct RE the intercept.

    What if we aren't given the graph before we are told to linearize

    • @PhysicsHQ
      @PhysicsHQ  2 роки тому +1

      If you aren’t given a graph you’ll need to decide what needs to go on the axes and work from there using the method I demonstrated. It may be necessary to do some algebraic manipulation first - e.g. deriving log equation for a complex relationship but that goes before graphical analysis so it’s related but outside scope of this particular video.

    Please tell me how to find "C" ?

    • @PhysicsHQ
      @PhysicsHQ  2 роки тому +2

      If the graph has no visible y-intercept then c is calculated:
      c = y₁ - mx₁
      Where y₁ and x₁ are the coordinates used in gradient calculation.
