    A few things about the boss that he doesn't cover. After a phase transition the boss will ALWAYS use a spear attack, because of this you need to pay attention to the last attack he did before you hit the HP threshold, if it was spear 1 you need to dodge to spear 2 spot after transition. In all other cases you are good to dodge it as a spear 1 attack. For this reason its not a bad idea to use the HP percent plugin so you know when he passes the threshold. To follow on this, if you know you broke a threshold and he is in the middle of an attack animation you can step a tile west (or east, if you're on that corner) to make the glass land outside of his 5 front tiles. He doesn't move until he goes to attack so he will sit there and give you enough time to move back. This is something you only want to do in the first one or two transitions, as his attack rate moves from 7 to 6 tick at 75% hp and you want to stay comfortable. You can also run two tiles back (like dodging a shield 2) and put the glass back there, but then you're going to have to deal with it later. Next, the laser attack hits 65+, always focus on dodging it first. If its blocking where you need to move to, do it late. The laser ALWAYS fires a tick before the boss's basic attack, so click to run into it the tick it fires and dodge both.

    The main issue with SW as opposed to NW pillar is that you have an extra spawn that you will have to deal with//. If you look at the map you showed and divide it in half, there are 1 more spawn locations that will target you when running to the SW pillar. All of the reinforcement mechanics are nice for the SW, but it doesn't matter if you tank 2 40's from an off-pray range because of an extra spawn.
    Also, the unsolvable stack you mentioned for NW is actually not that bad. If you switch pillars you can destack and only tank 1-2 off pray hits. Depending on your relentless/doom/frailty situation that may be terrible, or it may not make an impact at all.
    Also, for first time quivers it makes no sense to bring melee for the waves. For first timers, you don't care about time, you just care about not getting stacked out. Why force yourself to rotate pillars to bring the spawns close, when you could just bring range/mage and solve the waves albeit slower?
    Each person has their preferences, but personally I find relentless I/II/III to be completely free. 95% of the spawns using NW are completely solvable without taking any damage.

    • @1tubax
      @1tubax 4 місяці тому +4

      The whole point of the colosseum is to learn to handle prayers against multiple monsters well. If rotating pillar to bring stuff closer is too hard for you, then you're really only getting to wave 12 by flukes and lucky spawns. You've basically given up on improving.
      The colosseum is supposed to be challenging content, so taking easy ways like nw pillar where you are more likely to be spooned a wave, is rather counter intuitive. The idea of SW pillar is there's basically no/very little RNG involved, since there's a definite solution 100% of the time. The mistakes will always be your fault and you can keep improving.

    • @1tubax
      @1tubax 4 місяці тому +1

      @@tggg2179 I wanna say that I acknowledge that my previous comment was kind of bull crap. NW pillar is fine and yes there's always a solve. Running south is a solve, in cases where you have double stacks on 2 sides of the pillar, if you can tank and not get chanced (aka flick well enough while running) - you have a health pool for that reason. Idk why I was treating it as "oh no if you have to tank a few hits then it's bad!".
      I gave NW a shot with melee only and it's really easy for the most part. When I get AB solves and I can't drag, I can immediately run south and not tank manticores.
      I still think SW is better for the purposes of improving mechanically and having full control, but in terms of speed and simplicity, NW wins.

    All of the problems that Gnomonkey is ascribing to north pillar can be solved either by destack tile OR using the middle tile of north side of north pillar (while tanking) then off ticking. The only really problem with north pillar is the inconsistency with mage reinforcement spawn. I am happy to come on and talk more about it sometime.
    That being said it could very well be the case that south pillar is easier execution. But I don't think it's fair to say that there's no solves for these scenarios on north pillar

    • @IbleedGreen85
      @IbleedGreen85 6 місяців тому +2

      Yeah, this was my thought exactly. I wouldn't call those situations unsolvable like he did in the video, they just take the knowledge of how to get them off tick with the middle tile and then pray flicking between the attacks. I took the time to learn how to set this up instead of pillar running and it made it much easier in the long run instead of brute forcing it.

    I been using north west pillar alot. From my experience yes gnomonkey is right there are sometimes spawns were itll be rough and you might just straight up die. HOWEVER, most of the time theres only gonna be one monster that can attack you at start making the wave free. Since the colosseum is so short that if you die to an unlucky spawn it really aint a big deal since it doesnt happen often. Also unsolvable stacks can be solved simply running diagnol to south east pillar, manticores are usually never active yet so you dont even take damage doing this just pray against the shockwave and ranger. To sum up, with nw pillar occasionally youll get 2 monsters that have sight of you from middle which will be rough but MOST of the time itll only be one monster making the wave so free.

    • @Slabfish
      @Slabfish 6 місяців тому +3

      Part of the point is that you never have to run to another pillar if done correctly. If you are running pillars you are taking damage, even if small it's doom stacks, it's a time waste, it can get you killed and uses supplies. Even if harder to learn it will be more consistent and beneficial long term

      The pros outweigh the cons though. South pillar you don't need to bring ranged. North pillar you really don't ever want to be hopping pillars it'll make your learning process take longer and idk about you but I don't have much time to play these days so I gotta learn quickly and get things done quickly. South pillar ftw.

    • @1tubax
      @1tubax 4 місяці тому

      See that's the mentality that gnomonkey dislikes. You're basically fine with accepting that there's a chance you can get an unsolvable wave on nw pillar, but you're fine with that chance. Whereas with southwest pillar, it's more challenging but you can solve it every time.

    • @Scrinch_stole_schristmas
      @Scrinch_stole_schristmas 3 місяці тому

      @@1tubax There are no "unsolvable waves. There are just some waves where you have to take 1-2 hits. And that's assuming you are rotating around the pillar to bring the waves close for melee. If you bring range, there is never a situation where you have to tank hits, because the manticore never is revealed and will never hit you in the time it takes to run to another pillar. at 27:18 you encounter the same problem you pointed out at the nw pillar, which you called unsolveable and you die. yes it is not perfectly solvable, but you can just (at nw pillar) run north of the pillar und stack up 2 enemies at south and run back with off tic. ofc you will tank a single hit while doing that, which is exactly what you did at 27:18 so this is obviously not a big problem allthough it might not be absolutely perfect. also i think ppl just like nw pillar because we are conditioned by the inferno, and when you are comfortable you do less mistakes. btw i like the thought of decreasing stack occurences with the g5 tile.

When I was learning, I died 25 times in a row on SW and then switched to NW and got it first try.
      Problem with Gnome's view here is that in theory with perfect play and strategy, SW is better, but in practice NW usually gives you only one monster to deal with on spawn. Yeah that wave 8 is a perfect example of why a first caper shouldn't be doing melee only SW. That's just going to be a death for them.
    Mage/range gear + NW pillar avoids being put in that situation.
    The south ranger can always be brought into tbow/shadow/bowfa range even with myopia 3. The manticore wouldn't see you instantly so you have the option to do a simple mage/range flick to SW to destack them all.
    Wave 6 is also questionable.
    Starting at SW as a first caper is just a no go unless you're extremely quick to recognise off ticks and do them on the fly.
    The information here is very useful though for if you need to rotate to SW. Good watch :)

      NW is get the offtick or die.
      Or
      Don't get the 2x2 stack and have to rotate an entire pillar. If you have to rotate pillars, then it's not a good solution. Dying is a part of learning. NW also has no guarantee mage block so hope you don't get a shit stack and have to offtick the mage. Which you never have to worry about SW. I have had plenty of newer players use SW and get their capes. Plenty who have used NW and switched and got their capes. It has nothing to do with "SW is better if ----". SW is always better objectively for many reasons. We even have a mod who has done hundreds of KC North and south pillars and agrees NW is trolling.

    Can you do a guide on wave 11 solves please?
    I've got completions when I'm lucky with a nice wave 11 but it's not consistent.
    I get messed up A LOT, I look at other speedruns/completions on youtube and most people get lucky with the NW pillar.
    I pretty much know that when I have a 2/3 stack north of the SW pillar I need to quickly step to the south side, then step back out to the east side with the correct prayers and be in the correct position to put the mage behind the minatour, maybe I just need to get quicker mechanically because often I just don't have the time/get stacked out trying. (I'm in bandos/fang gear)

    On sol first attack I move to the left to dodge spear 1. and then on its next attack I move 2 tiles northeast which will dodge any possible atack (spear 1 or shield 1) and position myself east of sol. I let sol pee on the north eastern tiles on his first 1 ~2 transitions. That way after I get pushed on the east wall I reposition myself back to south of sol and get maximum move space possible on his later phases.

    If you stand one tile south of the B tile behind nw pillar, you will never even have a peen stack. Since the front mob will be dragged around the pillar that way. Having a stack like that is the result of bad pathing/positioning.

      It's somewhat more reliant on rng with mage/minotaur reinforcements...but the spawns are drastically easier to deal with most of the time. So he's technically correct that SW gives you more flexibility if you know what you're doing, but for just getting your quiver you will die SO MANY FUCKING TIMES if you try to use SW instead of just sending NW attempts

    One setup that is screwing me a bit over is Shaman + Javelin North side while east side is occupied by manticore/javelin if wave 5/6.
    If you go west shaman and javelin will be sameticked, is there a solution similar to 36:33 or would you have to step east to offtick the javelin and then run back west to hide from reinforcements and kill the shaman?

      I have a good one for this though not sure if optimal. Run from far east tile on pillar to diagonal 2 tiles out of the west tile of the pillar, it's always off ticked, works for serp first and range first. Works on NW also but flipped upside down (common stack I hate)

    Major problems I see with SW pillar that were showcased in this example run are that you are much more likely to get 2 or 3 mobs spawning North than you are to get a double south spawn at NW pillar. Spawns aren't getting stuck behind SE pillar like they do at NE pillar and opens you up to harder stacks (more likely to end up needing to use the z-stack solve like in this video). The whole theory about mage blocking was immediately debunked when the minotaur got stuck in this example so you still had to deal with the mage just like at NW pillar.
    While every wave may be solvable from SW pillar alone, the solves are much more difficult for learners than at NW pillar. There aren't many unsolavable waves from NW pillar, but if you get unlucky and pull one, it is pretty safe to run south while only tanking 1 or 2 hits maximum and solving the wave. This isn't ideal, but with how short colo is and with this not happening very often, it is perfectly viable.

    • @andrewsong7760
      @andrewsong7760 6 місяців тому

      the reason the minotaur got stuck was because he had two mantis side by side as a result of moving south of pillar too early. he needed to let the stack settle a bit more first, so it was a mistake on his part. it's something that you learn with practice, but his point still stands. SW allows for 100% success rate on reinforcement stalls, whereas NW doesn't.
      as for getting double spawns more often on SW pillar, that is true; however, the strength of sw is that you can rotate around and force a standard offtick on the stack once it settles, this isn't always the case on nw. sw is far more flexible (and engaging, imo), but requires a good knowledge of stack solves on the fly, and some of the strategies revolve around quick decision making. with nw pillar, on 85% of the waves you're just sitting behind pillar waiting for stack to settle. in rare occasions, you will be dealt with unsolvable stacks forcing you to run se/sw. some people like this, while some people prefer the playstyle of sw where you're in control of everything if you play correctly. additionally, nw pillar forces you to sit and wait for reinforcements because all the mobs will be east of pillar. with sw, you had a more even distribution of mobs on each side of the pillar, which allows you to eliminate more downtime, which leads to faster runs (and again, higher level of player engagement).
