HORNS UP!!! by CK \m/

To this day the vocals are absolutely unique and one of a kind. It's like a demon singing, but he is not evil or raging but thoroughly hung over, sad and depressed. Love it so much.
When this was released I was in the record store and my friend said this was the new album from Lee Dorian from Napalm Death. Not what I expected - but absolutely amazing! So deliberately slow and heavy it eclipsed even Candlemass, Pentagram etc.. If you can define 'doom' this album does it. Just pile-drives you with heavy riffing and dark magic chanting vocals. What a classic. Also loved the direction Cathedral took later, a fantastic band that ignored all trends at the time and made incredible music :)
Same thing for me.
Saw cathedral with carcass napalm death & brutal truth. Early 90s grindcrusher tour
True Man!!!
This album takes me away to another place in time..
Classic..
The atmosphere to this album...is unreal ....it really is a classic...gives me the same vibe as the first few Sabbath albums ......
It a classic màster piece😊
This album is pure magic, the vocals are very original
I wore this tape out in high school. Always worth a listen!!
one of the greatest albums ever made - never get tired of hearing it.....never will......doom on for eternity - our pleasures by doleful joyless experiences, we seek not life's beauty but cherish its funeral aspects.....words to live by!!!!
be*
One of the most beautiful covers of all times! Extreme heavy songs! It reminds me the great Trouble! Nasty guitars! Great lp!
Wow! Great to hear again. My first ever concert as a kid was Napalm Death , Carcass (Heartwork), Cathedral (FOE) & Brutal Truth (their first live show ever) at the Hollywood Palladium . what an absolutely perfect first concert . 3 pits at the same time with 70-80 ppl per pit! just pure madness! nice to relive! Thx uploader!!
You're welcome bro! \m/
Hey, I was at that show too. Fucking awesome. Except we had not heard about Brutal Truth who opened that night. We were still pre-gaming in the parking lot and missed almost all their set - stupid us.
i can tell you're a die-hard metal fan.
Campaign for Musical Destruction!! Saw them at CBGBs and the old ritz in the NYC. Wasn't the Heartwork tour for Carcass, it was for Necroticism - Descanting the Insalubrious.
Alex H that's an awesome line-up right there. Brutal Truth was one of the most insane shows I'd ever seen. They were supporting Sounds of the Animal Kingdom with Bongzilla and Fu Manchu
This album is one of the heaviest and darkest pieces of music ever realesed. Plus, that guitar tone is crushing. Amazing masterpiece.
couldn't have said it much different than you did, Only would also add that they do justice to their genre nicely.. Doom metal I believe, but that was in a very old metal magazine from 1994.. assuming they haven't redefined that..
Im trying to get my guitar to sound like this but idk the right tuning for it
@SARAH SLOMINUUUV that's shite lid, sounds like a demo
Drop C
@@garrettrussell186 Abyss tuning!
That first minute + of "Reaching Happiness..."is absolutely teeth grindingly haunting. Such an unnerving feeling this music gives you but at the same time its beautiful in its complexity.
I bought this on cassette in 1991. Absolutely loved it and played it to death!! And the flutes on Reaching Happiness and Touching Pain make it so much darker
I had it
Worth buying on vinyl and keeping
True masterpiece, musical and artistic, with the great artwork of Dave Patchet.
A masterful painting. His artwork fits the atmosphere of Cathedral better than anything else could've
30 years old today (Dec 6th 2021) And still one of the most heavy doom albums.
Cathedral, Paradise Lost and My Dying Bride, are the real Kings of 90's DOOM METAL!!
Trouble and Candlemass!
Paradise Lost & My Dying Bride are not Doom Metal. They are both Goth Metal Bands.
@@shspurs1342 paradise lost goth pop
the mighty cadlemass dude
Don't forget Decomposed! Hope finally died....the heaviest.
I had a demo cassette of this,no artwork just song titles. I really like how you did a video for this Doom Masterpiece. Rock on Brothers. 🤘
One of the best metal albums ever.
This is that kind of thing that is forever. Once in your blood it never goes away.
There are no words to express my feelings about this album..... Out of this world.......
I really don't have enough words to say what i think regarding these monumental work.
I hope future generations have access to this truly masterpiece. I would like to say THANK YOU to Cathedral.
Thank you CEK for the upload.
Play this at 45 RPM for a secret Bathory album.
Got me dying at work bro, good work
will check thanks
Thanks
Lol, timeless joke ;)
Compared to Bathory, I’m my opinion this band is on a whole other level.
Old but gold
I got here from a member of YOB mentioning this as one of his 11 favorite doom albums. This is just killer! Those dark acid bends just accent the darkness perfectly
I saw that list. I'm not a fan of Yob but Mike's list was 100% on point.
remember seeing them in the 90’s open for mercyful fate. good times...
Best DOOM album ever !!!!!!!!!!! So happy i bought when it came out.
@John H They threw a rock at my window. So I turned the volume up even more. Since I thought they wanted to hear the music louder.
@John H saw them with the God's of grind tour. Carcass Confessor, Cathedral and Entombed. Epic tour.
Thanks for making people having the chance to discover this masterpiece
I love this riffs! Great Cathedral!
i finally found your bitch ass
"-We seek not life's beauty but cherish its funeral aspects...", what Doom Metal is all about, I guess :)
When the first ebony tears stricken riff always make me that feel of letting go myself so hard that I feel to be buried
51:11 This track is just pure DOOM at its finest! My favorite doom album for sure and fav Cathedral album. No they didn’t invent Doom metal but they sure as hell made it heavy as fuck!
With Adam Lehan on lead guitar and Mark Ramsay Wharton on drums, Cathedral’s first two albums were just starting out a force to be reckon as major amongst epic doom metal bands such as Pentagram, Saint Vitus, Trouble and so on.
Rolando Davila Wharton didn't play drums on this. Mike Smail did.
Yeah, well I care more for Adam Lehan....his doomy riffs with his fender strat, is just a bliss to hear!!!
Rolando Davila agreed
My favourite Doom album.
That Doom album I always wished. Why not more like this?
Loved it then..... Love it now ✌🏻️
A Funeral Request!,,! Brutally Doomed Blues!,,!
Najlepsza płyta!!👍👍👍👍🎶🎶🎸🎸🎸 jest klimat 👍👍😈😈😈😈😈
More people need to know of Cathedral
Hell yeah. I've got the cd.
the 90's metalheads as i,knows well
I know of one, it's on the main square of my city. Was that what you meant?

I was Lucky enough to see them live in '92, when the album was just out. in Sint-Lievens Houtem, a small hick village in Belgium; for maybe 100 people (max). I can tell you, when they played "Serpent's Eve", I did in fact reach happiness and touched pain...
Definetly one of my favorite doom metal albums of all time
I love this guitars brutal riffs ! Great Doom band Cathedral!
So many dark emotions have been felt through this album. I was in high school when i got this and I still have it. Turned my wife and kids on to it which is cool.
that snare is magnificent....
Самой судьбоносной для мира Doom&Drone metal считаю первый трэк.И напор,и психоделия,и вокал напророчили све на годы вперёд!!!
That is one beautiful album cover!
One of all-time favourite album.
Those were the kings of doom. I loved and adored Candlemass and lots of Bathory stuff..but this struck straight into my heard. I cannot believe that this shit is already 30 years old. I've been on 8 gigs at least at that time. Bought all of their merchandise, had a chat with Lee and so on. Listening to this right now gives me goosebumps. I still LOVE them! Let me waaaaaander through buildings immense in their desolationaaaa
My dad on the drums
@@chubz4107 Damn, your dad is also one of the Penance guys, not to mention Dream Death and Internal Void. Holy...
Over 20 years ago I had this album. Still amazing 🤘🏼
I saw them at the Campbell (now called the phoenix after it was arsoned) in Coventry in 96 (good place to have a pint).
Bloody hell, there were so damn good. Lee, Mark and Garry were explaining they tried to forge a really Disturbing album. I love their work as much as Napalm death (they are Broomies and Lee was their first singer), meathook seed (Napalm and Obituary) and terrorizer (Napalm and Morbid Angel).
And my point is that i can remember that I was also attracted by these bands because i was provocative. Yet i understand a bit why it has so low views, and feel sad for that.
This album is the best stone doom metal every crafted to my opinion. Far better than the Epicus Doomicus Metalicus of Candelmass which is the reference band I had in the late 80's.
Thanks for making people having the chance to discover this masterpiece (intemporal to my opinion).
Reaching Happiness, Touching Pain... The essence of our human condition... Even better than Malraux.
Thanx for the post of this album Cek ^^
kings of doom!
Cathedral,Paradise Lost,Bathory and many more revolutionary bands
Cathedral = Doom Metal.
Paradise Lost = Gothic Metal.
Bathory = Black Metal, Viking Metal, Thrash Metal.
Probably the best doom metal album ever made.
30 years on and theres still nothing like it
Die healing by saint vitus
Their masterpiece. A true artistic achievement. Best doom ever.
THIS IS MY FIRST LISTEN AND YESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!
"Equilibrium" is a planet-crushing song. Oh my.
Soul sacrifice keeps me coming back
Que sonoridade incrível, melancólico e obscuro!
Sensação de uma batalha infinita entre bem e mal.
Sim ,concordo, excelente observação
Looked this up, heard it and immediately liked it, couldn’t wait to buy it. My copy is on its way from Amazon
The best doom album of all time
This was honestly the only Cathedral album I became a fan of, but it sure is doom at its finest
I think this is the earliest hint of funeral doom metal, even if it is not entirely what later bands shaped as funeral doom metal.
I wanna say the Thergothon demos beat this to the punch, but it’s pretty close.
I have the same feelings about it. Proto-funeral doom metal. The album is underraterd .
@@g3intel But Forest of Equilibrium had been recorded earlier (a little bit) and released as full album.
I remember when this came out and the word "doom" wasn't really used until this album. Sure St Vitus, Trouble , Candlemass were before this record with a distinct Sabbath influence but no one was throwing around the term in the late 80s. Also nowadays everyone claims Pentagram. It's great that people know who they are now but in the 80s/early 90s they were rarely mentioned unfortunately.
Started hear cathedral a few years later they separated and went finding different "trips" to another ages. Their music, artwork at disc's scrapbooks really made me feel I was in another passed times.(and I weren't smoking any shit) And Forest of Equilibrium in particular is a really fucking masterpiece. Greetings from Argentina !
So happy I bought this masterpiece back in the days.
Reminds me of days of carelessness..
master piece
Great sound Quality
a masterpice by any means
Una calidad de composición. Ésta es una obra perfecta.
This is exactly that Doom sound, if always wished since I was a youngster. Why not more like this?
I think because stoner doom took over
Sadly its boring for most people, or its too much for them to handle. But Cathedral really changed their sound after this album, so its kinda sad also. Its a good thing though that bands like Saint Vitus and Reverend Bizarre did not EVER forget how doom sounds.
Hi CEK, thank you for the great uploads you do!
ShrineOfLife thanks to you bro!!!stay Metal \m/
Wonderful doom metal
Magnifique album... Il me détend à chaque fois que je l'écoute. Vive le Doom métal!!!
fucking masterpiece
GREAT BAND
So this album is now 30 yrs old. Wow.
Thank you to the random comment on a Morpheus Descends video, you have helped me find amazing music. Doom metal is not always my thing unless I’m going for the NOLA bands like EyeHateGod or Down, but this fuckin rocks! Same with Cianide and Electric Wizard, that’s all I can compare to this!
Masterpiece
Most psychedelic and phantasmagoric doom metal stuff.🌿
My favorite Doom metal record maybe🤘heavy heavy heavy shit🤘
Fatally true and tons heavy, I remember listening to it for hard months of winter/spring 1996 was like sore addiction... what a lyrical load also...
Man the heaviness is crushing on this album at times. Dorrian also brought original vocals into doom and I like it.
respect!!!
Fucking Timeless.. Never ceases to amaze me every time I listen
saw them on this tour. They slowed everything down!!! - a funeral dirge. Magnificent. Special.
Doom what thou wilt!!!
o i will i will bwahahaha
Sounds like a perfect title for a Doom Metal album.
After all this years respect from Belgium
Love this album. Listening to this masterpiece since 2006 aprox.
One of the best in Doom Metal!
Napalm Death : : Bringer of musical geniuses
I know it'sa a whole album, but 20 something thousand clicks? What hte hell?
Should be by the millions
Now already 200k, isn't that cool
Fucking badass stuff
Bad ass stuff 👍🎸☠️
Their album covers totally look like paintings from Hieronymus Bosch.
only if Bosch was a Disney franchise
check out the covers for the Russian prog death band Hieronymus Bosch.
I guess that's the idea
Точно, есть такое сходство с Hieronymus Bosch
Kina try toLook's like, but it's nothing close to it.
Under youtube's "way too fucking heavy" guidelines, this should be removed immediately.
LOL I'm glad there's no such guideline in reality.
They would ban Doom Metal
I bought this the same day as buying Utopia Banished. Opposite ends of the speed spectrum.
Last song is probably one of the most depressing numbers ever composed in music history ...
Marcado para sempre por essa obra-prima.
Classic
I love this album and tore the type out back in the days...those riffs intentionally slower than anybody else, just great...though I must mention Sepiternal Deathreign & Deliriuma two magnificent death doom metal bands, slow evil and heavy as hell...I know there are plenty others, but I never read much about them...long live death doom metal...
Amazing doom metal album!
Maybe my favourite album of all time. Top 5 no doubt about it.
Classic doom metal masterpiece
Looove it!
It's so strange to see and hear a band come out with their best album on there first album it's hard to think of any others I'll have to get back to you
