You can read Roger Sparks’s book, “Warrior’s Creed” or the book “Never Quit” by Jimmy Settle, a fellow Pararescueman and teammate of his who served in a number of combat missions with Roger, including the one described in this video.

Brother it’s because of men like you that I enlisted in 2006 at 18. Tried going to Afghanistan in 2007 but that didn’t happen. Went to Iraq in 2010-2011 then again as a civilian in 2016. If it wasn’t for some injuries and my son I would be doing everything I could to be in Afghanistan.
I love my brothers and sisters and thank God for their sacrifices. God bless

Your story is very personal to me. You brought home SPC Shane Ahmed that day. I served with him in the Ohio NG and was the second friend KIA in afganastan. I was very close to him a watched his Harley for him while he was in Iraq.
I remember him telling me how he was going active and asked to be asigned to the infantry unit going to afghanastan the soonest to "get inbthe fight". Thats was the 101st. I am a medic and am glad you were there that day to bring my battle home.

Chihuahua, Lillard, Nagorski, Snow, Warriner, Ahmed....
These were fathers, brothers, sons, friends....not sure if you'll ever see this but thank you for the respect you have shown and what you did for us in that valley.

Holy shit! These videos are the most descriptive, bring-the-horror/reality of what they went through. This has taught me a whole new level of appreciation for what our military go through. I am USAF vet, I did NOTHING compared to any of these men. NOTHING!
When I see former military retired with benefits because of a sports injury suffered during inter-mural sports, it always kind of irritated me. I always though that the majority of funding should be going to those who saw combat, not 20 years state side, weekends and holidays off troops!

Just finished your book Warrior's Creed. All I can say is WWOOWW. An incredible account of your life and the sacrifice you put forth "so that others may live." Not sure if you will ever read this, but the Safford family attended a memorial to TSgt Daniel Zerbe in 2012 as we live in the York, PA area. As a former Army Infantryman, I never realized how difficult and intense PJ training was or what it entailed. We were able to talk to his parents (he was killed in Extortion 17) and it was a truly memorable experience. Thank you for your service and the lives you saved.

Holy shit, right? Why do we do this kind of things? War i mean. And im far from being a pacifist... But why do we want to be a soldier since we are kids? We all know what a battle is like...Well, many of us DON'T really know...But we understand by now that it is hell on earth... And still, deep inside, we kinda like the idea of have that experience... Why? What is the factor that atract us into that aweful world?

    • @teazee2248

Perhaps this may help you to understand -- from combat veteran Lt. General Hal Moore, retired: "American soldiers in battle don't fight for what some president says on TV, they don't fight for mom, apple pie, the American flag... THEY FIGHT FOR ONE ANOTHER."
"The American Soldier doesn't fight because he hates what is in front of him, he fights because he loves what is behind him."
