Paul Gaither urza is particularly scary bc he’s already got infinite mana all over him with his first and second ability. Then, you usually need something to do with infinite mana. Well, he’s got a third ability for that. The scary thing about this is how consistently he will be able to combo off on turn 4-5. You don’t need specific cards to combo. Just some artifacts and an untap ability. Let’s look at cEDH. The most powerful decks out there. The commander is always either a piece to create infinite mana, OR an outlet for infinite mana to actually win the game. Prosh, Tazri, Niv Mizzet, etc. are just outlets to eventually win the game once you’ve combo-ed. And commanders like mono blue teferi are part of the infinite combo. There is no commander in existence that has infinite mana basically stapled to them (colored mana btw) AND an outlet to win the game with that mana other than Urza. It’s absurd. Sure, cEDH decks CAN win on turn 4, but this deck will do it far too consistently.
I just really like the synergy between Chromatic Star and Urza...leave it as a mana rock until you want the draw...or tap it to pay half of the cost of Perilous Research, and sac it for the cost.

I suppose someone else suggested this earlier, but given the hybrid cost of Thopter Foundry, a Dimir deck with these cards might expedite the process (in case time is of the essence) with Disciple of the Vault.
I am debating adding blue to my servo token deck for urza. The goal of the deck is to create a ton of artifact creator tokens and have Reckless Fireweaver or impact tremor, Or if I am fighting a deck where my servos don't die quickly and thus I have a lot of creators on the field Junkyo Bell + Brion Stoutarm. Some of the cards in the deck can create servos by paying mana. so making all of the servos tap for main would be busted. and urza's enter the battle filed effect acts just like the bell. Also I forgot about thopter foundry. which even if I don't use urza would also be a solid reason to add blue if I have any leftover mana at the end of the turn sack one of the other artifacts this deck (or go get runs and get a sword of the meek) and make 1-A Crap ton thopter tokens/damage depending on what mix of anointed processions, or Panharmonicons, Flreweaver, or tremors I have out. would be sweet.

Payoffs for Thopter/Sword Urza combo: Time Sieve Any X Spell Any extra turn spell Any Lab Man effect Aether Flux Reservoir Any Blue mana sink Eldrazi Capsize Alter of Dementia
Why play Jace when you can instead run Karn alongside Urza (which finds the Sword of the Meek/Thopter Foundry combo pieces from the board)? You Urza until you hit Karn, minus Karn for Walking Ballista, then funnel all your mana into an arbitrarily large Walking Ballista. Or, less elegant, you can grab Altar of the Brood to mill them out (which doesn't target). Or make all the mana you need, grab the Walking Ballista, Urza into another Karn, then minus the second for Oblivion Stone, Oblivion Stone away everything to clear their Leyline of Sanctity if you know they have an Eldrazi or something in the deck to keep them from getting milled, then kill with Hangarback.
Even if, for whatever ungodly reason you decide not to play Urza in a dedicated artifact deck, nay even a deck that runs 0 artifacts, you are getting three power on two bodies for 4, a blue lanowar elf, a bouncible human that makes growing clones every time you do it. And 5 mana: play a card from your deck for free.
Everyone out here making broke combos, while I'm literally just trying to make toggo rocks commander a thing with sakashima as the partner. Because why not. It's kinda hilarious, even more so because i decided to make a touch of "homebrewed lore" with it. Niv Mizzet decided to do a little thought experiment with the "Smartest" goblin smith, taking him in and giving him near unlimited resources, assistants, and reference materials, to see what interesting marvels he makes.... Nope, the poor thing just focuses on furthering his rock production to unneeded levels, much to Niv Mizzet's disappointment.
I use Urza in my commandee deck. I try to either get Basalt Monolith/Rings of Brighthearth or Filigree Sages/ Empowered Autogenerator for infinite mana. Then I have a ton of degenerate combos like Niv Mizzet/Curiosity or Sensei's Divining Top/Etherium Sculptor/Elsha of the Infinite (my commander) to draw my deck for free. Then play Lab Man or Aetherflux Reservoir to laser the table to death! I love Urza!
You also have the infinitely big artifact construct. So that's infinite life, infinite blue Mana, infinite tokens, infinite big creature, cast your entire deck for free. All in one 3 card combo.
I'm just amazed they made an Urza card. He's been out of the lore for how long now? And he still cast a hard shadow for any character to crawl out from under. Karn, Jace & Liliana have done a pretty decent job, but I wouldn't say they bring the hype anywhere near as much as Urza does.
I already run a myr deck that is focused on doing nothing but pumping out as many tokens as possible, including using Brudiclad. Now let's make all of those tokens copies of the token urza puts out.
Always a pleasure to watch your video really ;) ,your explenation ar well done and it's a good way to know what and why people are buying this card great job
TCGplayer well it kinda might happen since we have fact or fiction and that’s an easy way to get your swords into the grave but overall there’s little to any reaction except graveyard hate also urza makes it easy to protect your spells since all your spells can be free casted which means all your counters are free
@@Travis5857 Urza himself is more likely to be banned in all honesty. He's better at doing stax than mono blue Teferiwalker, cheaper to cast, generates more mana, provides card advantage, AND is a combo piece. He's one of the best mono blue generals released in a long time. And that's saying something when we have _literally Tinker_ as a commander.
Jaunty Catt Would Arcum Be the Commander Or would it be Urza? I already finished and Arcum Deck and want the Urza as an upgrade but not sure if it’s better in the command zone or in the 99
Jaunty Catt I also noticed that the extra blue in Urza makes a huge difference when playtesting vs Arcum making Arcum a lot easier to cast even with a low land count. Thing is would you be going for the long game with Arcum if you put in Urza?
But you cannot do that combo with Urza as your commander, as Thoper Foundry is Esper. So, Urza makes it a 3 card combo... but we already have countless 3 card combos.
Yeah, this is the modern version of the combo. Funny, a modern legal set making a splash in modern. I think Sai, Master Thopterist and Paradox engine are far better tools to break Urza in commander.
@joeyjones654 yeah, instead of being big blue... he's red, or because we're talking alt colors here... Jund Jace, Boros Jace, Black Jace.... Oh yeah... Black Jace.... +2: Duress -1: Murder 10: Token that makes zombies when any creature dies.
The deck runs plenty of other artifacts, so all they'd need to do is sacrifice another to Thopter Foundry in response to the Surgical, and the token will enter, tripping off the re-enter the battlefield trigger of the SotM before Surgical even resolves. Then the SE fizzles. They can even sac the Thopter Foundry itself to make the the token to get the SotM out of the graveyard if they have no other artifacts at all. There is no point using Surgical Extraction unless you want to make yourself look a bit silly.
I expected way more people to ask why you're able to tap the thopters for mana the turn they come into play. So yeah, great job, everyone!

Yay! Another combo deck for modern. I love it!
Good to see you Jon! ^_^
thanks matt!
Homestly with the amount of hype and power he has, this isn’t even surprising
Hey, I was planning the same thing. Except with Tezzeret, Master of the Bridge to kill everyone at once with his +2 off all the thopters
Wouldn’t it make more sense to tap the sword instead of the thopters?
If I pull one then it will end up going into Jhoira Cheerios/KCI. Would slot out Grand Arbiter and then replace Pili with low cmc interaction.
Also Urza on board with KCI, Scraptrawler, Myr Retriever is inf. U mana.
Considering I have a friend who went for a time sieve combo instead of Urza, it's a win-win for him due to infinite tuens
I think that card might represent Urza in his pre-planeswalker days.
You can actually gain infinite untapped thopters as well since you can do the cycle without gaining a mana.
Great to see you again!.
thanks!
You are awesome, I understood everything. I will take Urza as Commander.
Grand Architect: *sheds single tear*
Cant you not tap the thopters on the turn they come out because of summoning sickness
Cheerios, lots, and lots, of Cheerios.
the cornerstone of a healthy breakfast and an unhealthy modern
"how are you planning on breaking urza"
its a 30 buck card mate.
only thing going broke is me if i buy a playset.
It probably did it again when they previewed the new slivers as well
I'm just amazed they made an Urza card. He's been out of the lore for how long now? And he still cast a hard shadow for any character to crawl out from under. Karn, Jace & Liliana have done a pretty decent job, but I wouldn't say they bring the hype anywhere near as much as Urza does.
throne of the god pharaoh and pass the turn or cast random stuff from the deck until tezzeret master of metal appears and use the minus to kill
I already run a myr deck that is focused on doing nothing but pumping out as many tokens as possible, including using Brudiclad. Now let's make all of those tokens copies of the token urza puts out.
White/black mana means thopter foundry can't be in an Urza commander deck, right?
Always a pleasure to watch your video really ;) ,your explenation ar well done and it's a good way to know what and why people are buying this card great job
Urza Paradox engine plus 4 artifacts and you can basically play your whole deck unless you hit a ton of lands
i literally figured this out in my shower today i honestly think this is what will get sword banned again in all honesty
that would be wild
Im a sucker for lore cards, and this is simply beautiful.
Y'all are excited about Urza while I'm sitting here on my throne of Slivers.
I'm rain hot fury on that damn loop with loops off my own.
Slotting urza into my edh deck alongside Arcom Dagssum
Jaunty Catt Would Arcum Be the Commander Or would it be Urza? I already finished and Arcum Deck and want the Urza as an upgrade but not sure if it’s better in the command zone or in the 99
@@jediabaja6602 Part of the 99, I feel the tutor ability that arcom gives is invaluable
Jaunty Catt I also noticed that the extra blue in Urza makes a huge difference when playtesting vs Arcum making Arcum a lot easier to cast even with a low land count. Thing is would you be going for the long game with Arcum if you put in Urza?
And now the Urza/Thopter/Sword combo gets Thassa’s Oracle, which might be a better wincon than Jace.
Fits in with my dimir thopter sword Agent of Bolas deck but that's pretty streamlined... What to cut
Time to goldfish
Tinker + urZa + every 0 Mana rock has been a joy
Thopter foundry and sword of the meek is only one of the broken infinite combos with URza
Awww.... I was hoping Urza would return In an alternate color planeswalker set.
Red Jace, green ajani, white Lilianna...
Etc. .
@joeyjones654 yeah, instead of being big blue... he's red, or because we're talking alt colors here... Jund Jace, Boros Jace, Black Jace....
Oh yeah... Black Jace....
+2: Duress
-1: Murder
10: Token that makes zombies when any creature dies.
That got dark, right at the end there... damn
but haste how can you tap the token
Surgical Extraction: *Heavy Breathing*
The deck runs plenty of other artifacts, so all they'd need to do is sacrifice another to Thopter Foundry in response to the Surgical, and the token will enter, tripping off the re-enter the battlefield trigger of the SotM before Surgical even resolves. Then the SE fizzles. They can even sac the Thopter Foundry itself to make the the token to get the SotM out of the graveyard if they have no other artifacts at all. There is no point using Surgical Extraction unless you want to make yourself look a bit silly.
That's a terrifying combo.
