That was just sooo amazing and wonderful seeing them together! I wish there was footage of June singing with her sister's orchestra as Elaine Merritt back in the late 1930's B-) Thank you so much for sharing this!
@@adpowell1414 Shows how much you don't know. They were of mixed race ancestry and they both passed as white. High yellow is a term many people in the black community use to describe very light skinned African Americans. A recent example would be Meghan Markle.
@@grahammaio9801 Black people are WRONG. Do you realize that claiming mixed white people as "black" based on alleged drops of "black blood" is an acknowledgement that you don't consider yourselves biologically equal after all? You people like to claim that evil white slave masters "raped" you during the antebellum period. Well, why do you work so hard to drag the DNA of your hated but adored white "enemy" into your "race" kicking and screaming?
The ultimate heavenly Hutton quartet... Ina Ray, June, Betty and Marion. What great talents they were! (PS - Thanks for posting this. It's sublime.)
Such a brilliant era of talent, huh? Glad you enjoyed the video!
They where passing for white
Yep! "Ina" was "Esther Cowan"
If you LOOK white, you ARE white. Ask Latin Americans.
I recently discovered this. Dona Drake was another light skinned Black entertainer in this era who also passed for white.

I agree! Would have loved to have seen them both perform in their earlier years. They're so fantastic together. Thank you for commenting and watching.

Nowadays there are whites trying their best to pass for black.
There is no such thing as "yellow blacks." The Hutton sisters were white.
