  • This video is sponsored by Niantic. I'm so grateful to have been a part of the first ever Pokémon GO Fest in Chicago, despite all of the setbacks! Even through all the server and connection issues, I had so much fun meeting all of you and catching some Heracross and Unown, and especially hitting up Legendary Raids for Lugia and Articuno!

Just wanted to share a more positive side of Pokémon GO Fest that hasn't really been shown enough online. Thank you so much to everyone who came out to say hi! It was amazing getting to meet you all.
To be clear, this is the video that Niantic APPROVED, so they're not trying to silence us - they're fine with me saying it didn't go well, they're fine with showing the crowds chanting "WE CAN'T PLAY," so hopefully we can put all that to rest.
Hate on it if that's how you feel, unsubscribe if you think you need to, but for the more open-minded among you, enjoy a look at Pokémon GO Fest through my eyes. It's true the event didn't go as planned, and people have every right to be upset, but a lot more people enjoyed themselves than you might think.

Out of all the things I got at GO Fest... Lugia, Snorlax, Heracros, Unown, Porygon... my favorite will always be that picture with Nick. That's why we all came to the event. Not for Pokémon GO, but to share our love for GO with other people. You are the best, Nick. This game would be nothing without people like Rev, Mystic, Ali-A, Lachlan, and definitely Trainer Tips

This has officially become my second favorite video after the one you did in Japan at that graveyard. I simply cannot get over the level of cinematography in that one but this one was just so positive you have to love it. As someone that deal in social media but doesn't really care for crowds I know that feeling of walking by a bunch of people that know you and it has nothing to do with ego but more with accomplishment and seeing that you set a goal and made it or even exceeded it. Stay humble bro keep up the amazing work

Nick! I was so mad at the end result of Go Fest because they devalued legendary. Had so much complaints that I almost start a video about it, then I saw this. It's amazing how this video made me realize how much I missed by being unhappy about this whole event.
I had a few raids during last few days, and yet to catch a articuno. Looking back each raid, it was fun meeting all the players there struggled with me. It was great to see that I wasn't all alone in this fight, and everyone was so nice.
Thank you Nick! You made my day!

Once the Legendaries hit the streets and the 2-mile radius was extended, GoFest actually turned out to be extremely enjoyable!! It was an even greater nostalgia of when the game 1st launched, with EVERYONE AROUND THE WORLD enjoying the streets of Chicago instead of being trapped in that (respectfully), lame park.. The bad start was a blessing in disguise for a MUCH MORE ENJOYABLE experience imo!! Sadly it was outside and after the event; but none the less, can't wait for the next one! :D

Thank you for keeping it real & positive Nick. I'm hoping that they don't cancel Go Fests completely but rather now know how to plan them better. I really, really, really want a Go Fest in NYC because I'd be able to get to it & I'd have a greater chance of maybe meeting some trainers that play closer to home. I feel like that's the ultimate goal of the Go Fests & I don't really know of anyone nearby who plays. Since you have Niantic's ear, please let them know that there are trainers out here looking to connect.

I was one of those who couldn't login at all until the GoFest ended. Even after it ended my connection was spotty at best but I still had a ball. Initially I was terrified that I would return home without having caught even one legendary, Unown or Heracross but John Hanke assured me that "everything would be made available to all attendees" so I relaxed and started enjoying myself. Yes John Hanke didn't hide out but made himself available to face the obviously distressed and angry attendees.
Once the Legendary Raids started everyone was hyped and the only complaints were about staying connected. In the first few raids most people weren't able to catch the birds until the catch rate was "abandoned". If people had a problem with that, it didn't stop them from rushing to catch as many as they could. In my opinion no one can say that it was too easy to get the legendaries if they look at the whole picture. To catch legendaries we stood in line for upwards of four hours; walked through mud; ate horrible food; baked in the sun for 12 hours, fought with our phones all day to get and,or keep internet connection; faced our personal fears; fought back anger; ran all over Chicago on foot and FINALLY after 12 hours we engaged the Legendary Birds. Anyone who believes that catching the birds in Chicago was easy only looked at the final step. Believe me, if the catch rate of 2% hadn't been abandoned, there would have been RIOTs that night..

Nick, I offer you my respect for not doing what dozens of so-called respected Pogo UA-camrs are doing by kicking Niantic while they are down...and for what, some clickbait? I say it should have been addressed as Nick has, discuss it so the company can make the necessary changes and be done with it. At the end of the day, it's still just a game, yes we're passionate about it, but let's not blow it so far out of proportion. Niantic made mistakes to be sure, but they are doing all they can to make it right by us, the players. Props to you Nick for finding the positives in this, meeting your fans, sharing the experience with us and not just selling out for some extra views. I was a "fan" before, now I see him as someone I'd call a friend.

Niatic limiting collecting of pokecoins to 50 a day a most. Unown being more rare then legendary, etc, etc ,etc, etc, etc.

How to make sure next year's go fest is a success:
    1. Do NOT provide tickets that scalpers can snipe and resell for ridiculous prices.
    2. Do NOT limit the event to only one enclosed area. Just go city wide.
    3. Stop obsessively attempting to dodge spoofers. ANY limitation put forth to block spoofers will inconvenience legit players too. Always. I myself know how to spoof and yet I went to the event in person and by the way, spent well over $1,000 to do so. Spoofers gonna spoof. Big deal. There will always be thousands of die hard pokemon fans who will show up in person regardless. Why force them to wait in a 3 hour line? Why punish us for being legit?? Also, everyone knows the presence of spoofers made it possible for legit players to have the manpower necessary to defeat the ridiculously powerful lugia.
4.Provide lots of Merch for us to buy and WIN. (If the app crashes, we can go to the in person games and win merch instead of just sitting around boiling in the hot sun.)
    5. Provide another great in app sale.
    6. Do NOT choose a city that charges $40 for parking per night and $200 per hotel room! Are you kidding? That was an AWFUL idea! Every dime you save us on hotels is another dime we can spend in app.
    7. Provide air conditioned/climate controlled shelters of some sort.
    8. If you're going to change the spawns in the host city, please don't force those without a ticket to wind up stuck with nothing but natu. I know for a fact that Chicago has great spawns in that area normally, but on the day of the event the spawns were suspiciously trash...

    • @TinyTom1995
      @TinyTom1995 7 років тому +6

      1. Agreed. The solution is to explicitly state that tickets are not for resale. Not doing tickets at all would cause the mob of people to be too large and unsafe.
      2. City wide would possibly cause issues for the city itself. It would have to be a smaller city of maybe 10k residents with 1500+ acres of decent pokestops. Then, Niantic would have to get approval from the city to have people wandering throughout the streets and they'd have to close off a huge section of the city. That's what I think would be best for the event.
      3. Spoofers are playing the game illegitimately. Period. The reasons that this is bad have been elaborated in much more detail elsewhere. It is a big deal. The bottleneck in the end was getting through the gates. A good solution would be a city-wide event with places that they give out QR codes for scanning anywhere in the city to activate the event Pokemon. Also, it was not spoofers who allowed us to beat the raids... we definitely were able to do that on our own. The manpower was there in person.
      4. There was a merch tent, but it was not advertised well. The winning of prizes would be awesome.
      5. Agreed.
      6. That was annoying, but there's not an easy way around that. In order to have the housing for up to 20k people, there would need to be many hotels, thus a larger city felt necessary, and higher prices were to be expected. I'd love to go to a smaller city with a lot of hotels, though.
      7. Agreed.
      8. I had no idea about that. Kinda sucks, but with a larger venue, like a whole city, more tickets could be given out.

I feel like that was a really good video. It really captured the spirit of what Pokemon go is meant to be. I feel like that's what went wrong at Pokemon go Fest the people that didn't have a good time there were there strictly for the game. But that's not what it's about it's about the community it's about all of us having the dream of being 10 years old and being able to go out and catch Pokemon and I feel like your video really captured the essence of that dream that's inside of all of us and the true essence of Pokemon go. Despite all the hiccups it was about that dream.

Awesome video! I had a blast meeting you, Rev and JT and truly enjoy hearing a positive spin on the event. I only caught 4 Pokémon inside the park and also caught the final raid Tyranitar. For me, and I think most people who were there would agree that the event started once the radius was expanded. It was a great feeling running to the first legendary raid with thousands of players who truly love the game. That day proves without a doubt the game is not dead: we crashed cell phone service, some got angry and anxious and yet we all united as a community at the end of the day. All in all, I thought it was a wonderful experience and will be attending next year.

I was one of the people unable to load the game for about 6 hours of the fest. It only worked for me if we stood in the far corner of the park (ATT) and we only learned about that near the very end. That being said I I was amazed at how positive everyone remained. It was great to meet players from all over the world and share our love for this game. Near the end, i started to get pretty bummed and was ready to chalk Go Fest up as an interesting life event that didn't go as planned when they announced for the second time that the event had been extended to a 2 mile radius from the park. My wife and I decided to seek our fortunes out in the city and the minute we walked outside of the gates everything changed. The game started working, people were having a great time and we were able to catch the rare Pokemon we came for. As the night progressed the streets were flooded and the sense of community was amazing. You could see thousands of people roaming downtown catching Pokemon. It was a sight to see. When the legendary raids started things got even better. Players gathered and the sheer number of participants in the raids was amazing. In my neighborhood on the north side of Chicago, I had never seen another player in my local raids. Now I was playing with thousands of other Pokemon enthusiasts. It made the whole day worthwhile.
In my opinion, Niantic redeemed themselves by working very hard on workarounds, giving us updates, and some nice perks. Ultimately, they provided a memorable experience that I very much enjoyed.
With all that being said the people I feel bad for are the kids. While there were way more adults than children at Go Fest, I didn't see as many kids out playing after the Fest hours ended when the game actually became playable for the majority of users. If there was any group of people who really lost out on Go Fest it was the kids who couldn't control when it was time to go and maybe weren't allowed to roam the streets of Downtown Chicago at 10:00 pm. Even the perks including the gold and the Lugia won't really make up for not being able to play the game and catch some of the rarer stuff that appeared later and was incredibly easy to catch. Honestly, I'd love to see Niantec offer a special virtual event for kids that increase the number of rare spawns near them to make up for the game not working for 90% of the day and becoming most playable at a time when a lot of players had already given up. I understand that it may not be feasible.
I loved Pokemon Go Fest and hope they give Chicago another chance next year to make up for the issues.
