Keep up the awesome work. If anyone says UA-cam is a waste of time, I just direct them to your channel to change their mind.

My two favorite UA-camrs, Door Monster and the Yogscast. Great video! I must admit that fights like these take my role-play group several days, not hours. I don't know why. (Maybe its only because we have 30 minute sessions.)
None of this is the wizard's fault. That none of the other fighters decided to bring a shortbow astounds me, that they hedged their bets on a spell that might fail irritates me and the fact that the wizard secured a potential solution to the problem which they ignored angers me. He could have transcribed that spell into his spellbook later! But, NO, one person is at fault for everything.
Yeah, wanna talk about useless, how about that obviously low charisma paladin when paladins are charisma based! Or how about the rogue who appears to be using a longsword which is a strength based weapon when rogues are clearly dexterity based! Maybe if you hadn't dumped your dex you could be steathing around for that sweet sneak attack damage, or if you do have a decent dex, why don't you have at least ONE dagger that you can THROW. This was not at all the wizard's fault, the other players obviously fumbled the encounter to the point where the episode began, and then put unreasonable expectations on the wizard to get them out of the problem the caused. (Also if you're playing with moral, the orcs probably would have run in the situation of needing a rest, not all creatures fight to the death after all.)
While these are all good points, I can't ignore the Wizard's poor choice in Cantrips. You _never_ go on adventures as a dedicated caster without some attack option to fall back on. No Fire Bolt? No Ray of Frost? No Acid Splash? Not even a Poison Mist or Shocking Grasp? Even in a social-focused game, you never know when things will come to blows.
While I understand where you're coming from here, there are a couple reasons why someone would ignore that, first of all being if it's their first time playing. If they've never played before, you can't really blame them for making sub-optimal characters, they just don't know that it's sub-optimal. The other reason is the exact opposite: they've played a lot of D&D and they are purposefully making a sub-optimal character for the sake of roleplay. This seems to be the case here, as he said he was going for a bar-magician style and that he thought that this game would be more roleplay heavy. Is it a terrible strategic decision? Yes. But that's kind of the whole point. Players have a bad habit of optimizing only for combat, however, that is only one of the three pillars of the game, and deciding to ignore that and go in a completely different direction can be a very strong roleplaying decision. That all being said, he probably should have discussed that with the other players before-hand so they didn't peg all their hopes and dreams on him getting them out of tight spots.
Iain Hansen as I understand it, the idea is that more complex spells require some sort of preparation. The more you level up, the better you get at multitasking those spells.
Vance magic system, it was the inspiration for D&D. It's the reason spell "preparation" or "memorization" is a thing. In that universe spells are a like a file that you store in your head, but after you use it its deleted, like it has its own mind. Then you have to take the time to relearn or find it again. The guys behind D&D used it because it made sure Wizards weren't always unstoppable and it also gave D&D magic an alien sense to it, which they liked because magic by nature isn't familiar. TL;DR: Old Sci-fi fantasy is the reason magic be like it is.
you can cast more than that even at first level, but its really for balance in the DMG their is a variant ruleset called spell point system it makes casters FAR more powerful. but its more unbalanced and a lot more book keeping
Back when I was playing a cleric, one of my favorite spells to use was scorching ray, and you had the right amount of targets for it too. So that's how I knew the moment you mentioned it, it would miss. Excellent video!
Why burn spell slots and consumable scrolls, when you've got dem sweet minor illusions? Step 1: Shout to orcs that you have been gravely injured by a stray arrow and you are carrying all your expensive loot Step 2: Cast an illusion of your party fallen between the trees Step 3: Wait for orcs to come over... then backstab, normal stab and scorching ray. Step 4: Profit Step 5: Short rest

Been a yogscast fan for years and came across door monster just before it was door monster. This is such a beautiful mesh of the two. Congrats on your collaboration!
The paladin is a lying bully the rogue is either incompetent or (more likely) doesn't want her hands dirty. The mage succeed on diplomancy and was totally right all along. Let the dude with Max Int make the plans goddammit!
Why do the Paladin and rogue not have ranged weapons? My groups rogues always have a ranged option, and my Paladin, despite having given his bow to the more capable archer oracle Paladin, still carries javelins and lightning javelins. Failure to carry a ranged weapon for emergencies is a player failure.
If they had no ranged weapon and DM knew that, it's either a structured challenge that the DM intended to be tough for that very reason, or the DM is lazy. Hands on the wheel, people!
@@KasumiRINA That still isn't the wizard's fault. A lv. 1 wizard only has two spellslots, so naturally, he'll blow through them quickly. However, a rogue gets 20 free arrows if she chooses the ranged option (which she SHOULD), and two daggers she can throw, while the paladin gets 10 javelins. If they managed to blow through so much ammunition, they have no reason to blame the mage. Not to mention that 2 Magic Missile deal a grand max of 30 damage, and a minimum of 12 damage. He should at least have been able to seriously wound one orc, possibly kill two. Unless the battle was heavily out of balance, that means the rogue and paladin hasn't done jack shit for the entire battle.

I have a confession to make. Majority of the games you do videos of, I don't play, a lot of times never heard of. However, your content is so good that I binge watch all of it and then rewatch it.
Keep up the awesome work. If anyone says UA-cam is a waste of time, I just direct them to your channel to change their mind.
okay but the funniest line is "what is the point, of you?"
Its fantastic to see you working with people as big as hat films you guys are doing great and I'm glad to see it. I look forward to see you guys grow even more and do more awesome colabs like this.
Amazing how the orcs where shooting at them with arrows without bows 😂🤣
My two favorite UA-camrs, Door Monster and the Yogscast. Great video! I must admit that fights like these take my role-play group several days, not hours. I don't know why. (Maybe its only because we have 30 minute sessions.)
I feel like this is how Mark sees the others in High Rollers.
Fantastic video! Love the collab with Hat Films and Mark Hulmes
That wizard is definitely Ricky Gervais' son. Can't unsee/hear
This worked out really well guys, turns out both your styles fit together well, would love to see more like this the hat crew and mark are cool people
First look: is that... Mark?
Reads title: it's Mark and hatfilms!!??? In a door monster video!!!!! :00000
I just found you guys two weeks ago and have practically binged all of you videos! Forgive me for not finding you guys sooner you guys are amazing!
But, NO, one person is at fault for everything.
which is funny considering the occasional arrows
I've seen a few good Strength based rogues. Flanking sneak attack with a Greatsword. But yea, that Pally is kinda bad.
Yes. YES. YESSSSS. TOP QUALITY CONTENT. A DELIGHT TO BEHOLD. MY 3 FAVOURITE CHANNELS IN ONE VIDEO
You’re a rogue that doesn’t have a hand crossbow? I feel like the wizard is not the failure here for being the only ranged fighter.
Or a wizard without one. It’s part of his default gear too. I guess he could have swapped it for gold though.
The way I see it, every party member should have at least one means of ranged combat, even if it's just a sling or something.
"I'll renounce him. i'll fall. I don't care." I love how Kyle delivers his lines.
Oh my goodness. I couldn't be happier. My two favorite, extremely underrated UA-camrs in collab. This is the best day.
Seriously tho how does a mage run out of magic?
“I don’t care if we are low level how can you only cast 5 spells?”
Iain Hansen as I understand it, the idea is that more complex spells require some sort of preparation. The more you level up, the better you get at multitasking those spells.
It occurs to me that may have been a joke or rhetorical question, in which case, sorry.
"We are going to have a meeting with the king. it's not like there's going to be combat today." rip our wizard...
Great rain effects. You are getting better and better Kyle.
"We've been fighting for 3 hours"
"It's been 3 minutes"
I felt that
Tabletop boy and Hat Films, that's amazing! You guys rock!
Someone's gone and eaten all the babies!
Back when I was playing a cleric, one of my favorite spells to use was scorching ray, and you had the right amount of targets for it too. So that's how I knew the moment you mentioned it, it would miss. Excellent video!
3 minutes is 30 rounds in 5e which is quite long for combat
HAH nope
Defenatly when they are lvl 1. I mean the Wizard can get oneshotted if an enemy crits
This was amazing, thank you so much, all your D&D stuff is always great!
Why burn spell slots and consumable scrolls, when you've got dem sweet minor illusions?
Step 1: Shout to orcs that you have been gravely injured by a stray arrow and you are carrying all your expensive loot
Step 2: Cast an illusion of your party fallen between the trees
Step 3: Wait for orcs to come over... then backstab, normal stab and scorching ray.
Step 4: Profit
Step 5: Short rest
Would that be a minor illusion?
No.
MARKU! YES I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS! Best colab this year!
secretly the swordsman had a spell himself. dont ask why.
Eldritch Knight son.
Paladin
The rogue also had a few spells.
lol true
Nah, they're level 1. Paladins don't get spells at level 1 in any edition I know of.
"I thought this would be more roleplay heavy" That's me every time
When the DM is feeling generous.. "Hey, you guys talking about taking a rest?"
Hat films and Door Monster, two of my favorite criminally under-subbed channels, collaborating. Awesome!
Wtf all of my favourite people at once?
Man turps and hat films in one video
Best thing about this video: Kyle's hair.
I leave you to your own conclusions about the amount of screen time for some people.
No way the wizard isn’t actually a warlock, only has two spell slots, a ton of cantrips, AND gets slots back on a short rest!? Case cracked
Somebody's stolen da babies!
A five and a half minute Door Monster video? Is this heaven?
Yes, Hat Films!!!!
This was great! So awesome two of my favourite channels got together and made some videos!
*He ate the babies*
Hmm, I got seafood...
This sketch was perfect, loved it. Both wizard and punchlines are worth the wait. I just wish work wasn't such a drag and that it'd given me the chance to see you guys whilst you were here in the UK. Still, watching your videos always brightens my day, and this latest one definately makes up for not getting to meet you. Hope the British weather didn't hit you too badly and that you're all doing okay. Keep up the good work.
Always take firebolt.
Also, always have at least one party member with high charisma.
Also, could they not have just avoided that fight?
Sean Murphy as a lore bard I take Poison spray for those D12 and Eldritch blast for those d10 that no one can resist, name a creature than is resistant to Force damage
Well... Nowdays we take toll the dead :P
@@pyroparagon8945 wraiths I think?
Also he's a PALADIN. he SHOULD have high cha
I absolutely love that you filmed with hat films and mark. The first thing I thought of is how in a few earlier videos you had hat films stuff. That's pretty awesome
Yogscast meets doormonster :o
Been a yogscast fan for years and came across door monster just before it was door monster. This is such a beautiful mesh of the two. Congrats on your collaboration!
Was actually just watching your pathfinder stream
Two of my favorite groups!!! Worth the flight :)
That is what I feel like every time I play a Wizard! hehe
You don't take a single attack Cantrip? Why?
Bluecho4 cause he thought the campaign was gonna be role play heavy.
Glad my favorite channel is doing collaborations with my other favorite channels.
Mark is so great XD
Heather Anne yea Turps is so amazing ;)
this is a dream video, a video with my two favourite youtubers with the most enjoyable game Ive got in my life rn
"I only have prestidigitation" cant that be used for generating a small object anywhere? With no limits aside from size and duration?
Trent Lindsey yes
Yeah, he could have tried a distraction while they were hidden, to get the orcs looking somewhere else or something.
OMG hat films and door monster at the same time this is amazing
The paladin is a lying bully the rogue is either incompetent or (more likely) doesn't want her hands dirty. The mage succeed on diplomancy and was totally right all along. Let the dude with Max Int make the plans goddammit!
Omg, I never expected this crossover! This is amazing
Or, they ran out of ammo?
Unless the battle was heavily out of balance, that means the rogue and paladin hasn't done jack shit for the entire battle.
this might be my favourite video ever. you have you guys (who are awesome) hat films (who are also awesome) and mark hulmes (who is equally awesome) looking forward to more superb videos you beautiful people
wow. passive aggressive combat
