I bought one of these 18 months ago. I absolutely love it. You simply cannot beat it FOR THAT PRICE. Yes it’s not a top of the line grinder, but it is an insane value. To convert to a 2x72, simply cut a few inches off the back of the tooling arm. This is a great entry 2x72 for hobbyists.

@@Bottlemaker1 yes! It was a great value. Had it for 3 years now. Never had any issues with it whatsoever. I’m not about to pay $3k or more for a grinder, so this was a great option.

Bought a grinder that looks exactly like that 2 years ago on e bay. It is a 2x72 though. The drive wheel on mine is smaller. It came with the 2 small and 1 big wheel and the flat platen. It was around 1000$. I have been using it pretty hard on knives and swords and have absolutely no complaints.

I bought that grinder a year ago. Cut two inches off the tooling arm and 2x72 belts fit fine. The belts that came with it are good for hand sanding hammer handles. My only complaint is I had to shim my work rest as it was welded poorly and was crooked.

Curious now as to a comparison between Ameribrade new 2x48 that is similarly priced in a smaller yet more common belt size, if it's important to ones purchase they claim to source all parts in USA. This Vevor has my attention the extra length of belt and large wheel are pretty impressive for the price.

Curious of what you think of the Housemade Revolution Gen 5, which is a DIY grinder but there's a kit available that will get you about 90% of the way towards building it so you don't have to go completely from scratch with just the plans. I think I'm at just over $900 on my Revolution and it works great, top speed is almost double what the vevor one is, and it rotates and has a fully adjustable platen and work rest. Can attach any accessory you want to it also just as long as it'll mount to a piece of 1.5" square tubing with the right offset spacer. You have to know how to weld and have a drill press to build it (new generation might not require a drill press anymore though, holes are pre-tapped now or so I've heard) but I'm brand new to mig welding and I was able to build the thing successfully in about 16 hours of work spaced over about 4 days. Overall I think the Revolution has the features of a high-end grinder but at a fraction of the price as long as you're willing to build the thing.

You might have been a little more convincing about not being able to use the flat platen with the 2x72 belts when you said you don't really need the flat flatten if there wasn't a grinder in the background that has the flat platin on it as the last tool used. Oops.

That's a heck of a deal even with just the flat platen. But yeah 82" is pointless. The thing that makes the platen brilliant is the worktable because you can do 90 degree work effortlessly. But... the real Achilles' heal of that grinder is the motor. That big fan on the back is going to kill it if you use it much, sucking all that metal dust into the motor. Easy enough to replace if it's a 56C mount. I built Brian House's Gen 4 Evolution grinder from kit, and I recommend watching some of his videos to pick up on some tips, if you have the time. He has some good pointers on VFDs and motor choices.

on VFD's: if you don't have the exact manual, don't even try to reprogram it, and especially if it's your first time. VFD's are quite similar in programming, but you're in deep if you don't know about their customs and specifics.

I've always wondered how a giant chunk of even "entry level" 2x72 grinders literally cost more than my 2007 Chevy Colorado! Like seriously!?!? How is that in any way reasonable? My truck is in really good condition and it's an entire motor vehicle yet a freaking grinder made from some laser cut steel is $5000+ Total bull crap if you ask me.

Thanks for the review, but I have to say you can buy a perfectly good 2 x 72 from OBM for less money, and be able to source belts from many different sources. 2 x 72 is, of course, the standard belt size; why they went with a non-standard size makes no sense to me. You would certainly spend a bit more money getting different sized wheels and tooling arms from OBM, or another manufacturer, but there's no need to spend thousands and thousands of dollars to get a perfectly functional 2 x 72. My OBM has a sealed VFD which this unit clearly doesn't.
