    O lord. This is a rabbit-hole of a hobby. My son went to a '3D printing Camp' this past summer. And what we didn't realize was they got to keep the printer (a Creality Ender V3 KE) after the camp.
    This lead us to months later having a *WALL* of shelves with spools and him going every weekend to the farmer's market selling his prints. I'm proud of him and his new hustle, but I got sucked into the vortex of 3D printing with him.
    I repaired a printer about a decade ago, and fell out of the hobby because the quality was just awful even when 'best'. The way these have evolved in just the last couple years is amazing. Looking to get a Bambu printer for _our_ second printer for thew holidays.

    • @logicalfundy
      @logicalfundy 14 днів тому +1

      There are a lot of technical problems with filament recycling - including the fact that unfortunately plastic degrades whenever it is re-melted to recycle. The print quality and strength of the recycled filament will be worse than the original. I am hoping that we will come up with better ways to recycle it in the future, but it's not an easy problem to solve.
      Also - yeah, Ender 3s aren't known to be high quality printers. Creality has a bit of work to do to catch up to Bambu and Prusa. I think the v3 models are okay, though? Haven't seen a lot of information on their reliability.

    • @ladyamberskye
      @ladyamberskye 14 днів тому

      when I say recycling Is also mean like commercially biodegrade it because I guess I've heard it takes too long and bigger processes then the standard persons compost.

    • @logicalfundy
      @logicalfundy 14 днів тому

      @@ladyamberskye Yeah, that's the case with PLA. Most other materials don't even have that as an option. Plastic recycling, composting, biodegrading, etc - is its own rabbit hole, filled with pain and suffering.
      But if you really want a place to send filament to - look up Printerior in the USA, or Recycling Fabrik in Europe. You will need to make sure everything is sorted out by color and material.

    Simple? Yes. Affordable? No. I’ll definitely have to wait a while longer for these things to go down a bit in price before picking up this hobby. Honestly, the combination between the device, materials, buying designs, and then modifying them for your printer specifically makes me feel so overwhelmed. However, I totally enjoyed watching this and the whole process in general, as always this was fun to watch.
    EDIT:
    Thank everyone for their great suggestions. I definitely do know it's not as expensive as it first was, but I'm disabled on SSI (a little over $900 a month) and my dad's the only one working, back then I only got like $100 a month) so when I got into gaming a few years back it took me several months to come up with both the console price and a game. But thank everyone here for their awesome suggestions below! I haven't looked at the prices in a while so who knows, maybe one day I can go for one, just not on top of my list right now. 😊

      @@RepzeyOfficial That's kinda my problem, I'm on SSI with a tight budget so it takes a long time to save up for something. Took me me several months to buy a Nintendo Switch and a game for it. Kind of embarrassing...😅 unfortunately what's cheap for others is sometimes more kind of out of range for me, especially if it's just a hobby I do ever once in a while vs something I do all the time, like draw. I have to consider if making it would be cheaper or buying something to make it is cheaper in the long run. Thank you so much for the advice though! I've got 7 bambu printers, and have used many others. You are doing fine. Honestly Bambu are one of the easiest printers to calibrate and use. Which isn't a bad thing. More time printing and less time trouble shooting. Just when it comes time to change out the belts...oof. My least favorite maintenance.
    Stock up on elmers glue sticks and lithium greese. The glue sticks are kind of just in case, some material likes to curl up on the edges even on the textured PEI bed, small layer of gluestick fixes that problem most of the time. Your printer will tell you when the lead screws need grease.

    I got into 3d printing at the beginning of the pandemic and have been loving it. It's a great activity I can do with my son and there are loads of great use cases. I'll say also, the hobby has come a LONG way and it's easier than ever to get started. The Bumbu Labs A1 and A1 mini are fantastic for anyone getting into it for the first time - and at a great price point. For people with more 💵💰, the version Wood got (PS1, I think?) is great. One piece of advice: get whichever printer you can _also_ afford the AMS (automatic material switcher) for. Even if you don't print in multicolor, you'll save yourself manually swapping materials *between* prints and you can always have four filament colors loaded up and ready to go.

    Glad to see you getting into 3D printing! I wish I can get into 3D printing. One day I’ll get into it when I have the money for it. I remember using 3D printers back in high school, it was a fun experience.

    A copywrite patent kept 3D printing from the world for 30 years, i think it was is the 2010s when some patents finally expired.

    Since I have been doing a lot of 3d printing for a while, and got the X1 carbon, I want to give you a little advice, You can actually tune thee settings, To both make prints overall a bit faster, use less filament, but also, you can tune it so it 'poops' less, and the like if you are willing to go through the effort, That being said, Don't worry about it if you don't want too, as learrning how to fine tune it for all that is part of the learnning experience and you will get it eventually. I would suggest making custom filament profiles though that use "Long retraction" and cut, as well as reducing purge amounts, But, the newest version of Bambu studio apparently has already done things to help with that, at least when it comes to using its own filaments.

    I've had the same printer for around 6 months and an Elegoo N4 pro a little longer. As others have said, you can print your own spools. You can actually print the Bambu reusable ones too. The file is on maker world. And can even be found on the SD card that came with the P1S.

    use modeling clay at the back of the keys to weigh them down. If they're not holow on the underside try drilling them out. Could also drop in magnets maybe. Drill out the back than put one magnet on the bottom and one on the key. make it so they attract so they pull back at each other which will fix the dropping key.

    Also you influenced me to get little game grips for my switch joycons. Makes Mario Party Jamboree and other joycon games much more enjoyable!

    As for 3D printing existing in the 90s: Someone had patents on it, and those only ran out a couple of years ago. That's why it wasn't a thing much sooner already.

    Great work! I love 3D-printing and playing around with it. Glad you're enjoying it.
    On that note... I'm not sure if it's the model of Bambu Lab printer you have, or your settings, but the time you are printing seems way off (as in, way slower than what they can do). I'm only familiar with one model so far, and know it can go really fast. Something like that small arcade should go faster (and the rest should also be faster). On my 3D printer it's estimated to be 1h5m and that's pretty accurate. Mine's an old Flashforge Adventurer 3, I'd love a Bambu Lab, but they're too costly for me at the moment. I know my stepdad's Bambu Lab printer just zooms so much faster (and produces such great results). I'll see what his machine can do when I'm over.

    Buying it without the spool is something that is nice for once you have gone through a spool or two already and have an empty one already. That way you save money and the plastic spool isn't going to waste after being used only once. I don't think they intend for it to be an option where you are constantly swapping colors off a spool.

    Its funny How you mention How 3d Printing hasnt been a thing for long, well its easy. 3D Printing was worked on in the 90's but the first commercially avilable Printer was released in 2006. It just "recently" became Popular due to the Cost and ease of use.
