    What an amazing story. Glad everything got to you. A mono SF Sorrow. Wow. only have the mono mix on CD. And the sundered stereo reissue. Love that record. A favorite UK psych record for sure.

      Many thanks. It's been a longtime favorite, way near the top. Felt like one I needed to have in the house. German originals are quite affordable too, and apparently sound great!

    Nice content and good score. I've experienced so much lately with sellers, even reputable sellers over grading. One example was, I bought and returned 4 copies of Bubble Puppy where each was completely over graded. This happens so often with overseas sellers that I think they do it on purpose because they know buyers would rather make a deal over losing money on the return.

    • @seekingathread
      @seekingathread  4 місяці тому +1

      That could be true. I've certainly done that and not wanted to deal with shipping back international copies. UK sellers appear to be the ones who do this the most. I've had the best results with Netherlands, Germany, even France. Japan being the best. Bubble Puppy...ugh, one I've been trying to upgrade too. Rough vinyl.

    Great to see you got your SF Sorrow in the end....an absolute classic. Sleeve doesn't look too bad. Amazing that you were sent the Linda Hoyle lp though. File alongside Ben, Dr Z as less than essential swirls but I'd still love them all in the collection. Cheers Nigel

      I was pretty blown away to see that in the box. I knew right away the rarity and how ridiculous the mistake was!

    That record has had quite the journey, glad it all worked out. The music isn't for me but that's an amazing sleeve indeed. Don't recall this ever happen to me as a buyer but it happened once as a seller, but thankfully both records weren't as pricey and the buyers were cool about the mishap. Seems like your seller owned up to it as well and went above and beyond to make it right.

      Hey Thijs. Yes I've made some mistakes too and best thing it to just own the mistake and try and rectify. Most buyers will be reasonable and appreciative of good communication and refunds.

    A well told story Dom and pleased it worked out in the end. As a CD listener the worst I can say about this album is my 2009 Snapper edition lists in the booklet that it was mastered from the 'EMI mono masters'. This led me to believe it was a mono copy, but it turned out to be the stereo version. Still a good listen but would prefer the mono for this one. I find the stereo panning a bit off putting! A first class album though and your video made me revisit the earlier garage-blues stuff from this super cool band. The only other 'wrong' event was when I bought a CD copy of the James Chance 'Buy the Contortions' no-wave classic and when I opened the case a Red Hot Chili Peppers album was in there instead!

      Ha, I guess both were in the white-funk mold (Chance and RHCP). I will be comparing my Edsel stereo copy, see how that sounds in comparison. The mono is sounding beautiful I have to say, even with the light crackle.

    It’s an interesting story. A few things strike me; the price of those Vertigo albums has gone completely insane. I remember seeing some of the more obscure titles Vertigo’s in the cut-out bins. At the time I had no interest (but I wish I had grabbed them all). In fact, until recently I did have the first Black Sabbath record as a UK Vertigo - which I sold at a very fair price and still made a nice profit. Absolutely, that Pretty Things album is so good. Beautiful sleeve design and, of course, the music. Not an easy find in good condition. Well done Finally, good for you doing the right thing and returning the record. Probably seem like the natural thing to do for you but (unfortunately) I think some people wouldn’t act as honorably. And your story reminds me of all the positive interactions that I have had buy records on-line. I honestly have never really had a bad experience buying records. Even on Discog. Oh…a few minor issues of quality but those usually worked out with a couple of text messages. The best part is you now have the album you want and a great story. Thanks for sharing. Cheers.

      Hey Shawn. I am not in the game of collecting UK Vertigos, though I wouldn't mind procuring a few. Most of it is not exactly to my taste. Yet that label design and all the art is so beautiful usually. The Hoyle didn't tempt me all that much since I was not a fan of the music, at all. Typically my experiences are good as well. Most buyers are quite reputable, as this one was. I think he apologized about 48 times! Glad you dug that

    Awesome video. Always interesting to see behind the scenes of things that don't go so well, how they're dealt with, etc. Good thinking to record the unboxing--something I'll def do from now on for those long-distance, pricier items. Glad it all worked out in the end!

    Glad it turned out fine in the end. Great album. Good idea filming the package opening. Usually the problem I have with sellers is that they list a promotional LP, but send the standard release . Thanks, Chris

      Having a video does help eliminate issues with sellers who might be skeptical of your intentions. Though you could probably fake it if you wanted. But I'm obviously relieved it worked out, did not think it would.

    Fun video ... thanks. This has happened to me a few times over the 30 years of using EBay. Never with such expensive LPs though. Always worked out OK for me. His refund of 80 euros for the inconvenience seemed really generous! Good for him.

    Wow, that's a story to tell the grandkids! That Linda Hoyle is actually very rare, musically it's not for me either (like most records on Vertigo). However, SF Sorrow is an eternal masterpiece of UK psych, so congrats to that! I have the UK stereo original but looking for a mono. The stereo mix is to me not the best, bad mixing with typical bass and drums 100% to the left and vocals 100% to the right, much like Sgt Pepper stereo. So definitely not for listening with headphones. So mono is the way to go! Again, big congrats to SF Sorrow!

    • @seekingathread
      @seekingathread  4 місяці тому +1

      Thanks Jonas. Perhaps I'll be able to upgrade it to a cleaner record but will be tough. The years I've spent watching this, most of the copies are worn. Funny the Discogs comments all seem to prefer the stereo. I may keep this reissue, still need to give it a good comparison.

    • @vinylstockholm
      @vinylstockholm 4 місяці тому +1

      @@seekingathread Yes, it's super hard to get in any condition. I guess the stereo vs mono debate comes down to taste in the end. And there are certainly benefits with both. My main objection to the stereo is the 100% left and right mix. But the stereo might sounds more open when listening on a good system. It was a long time since I've heard the mono mix, so I might have to compare again some day. It would be interesting to hear your views now that you have both mixes.😊

I look forward to the next video.

      hey Chris. I actually have NOT been burned in that way, until now in a way. Though this did work out. My friend and owner of Angry Mom gave me the idea. It's a good idea to avoid possible conflict though by no means does it cover everything. You'd need a video of it coming off the USPS truck and into your hands and then opening. With NO edits! Curious how your UK mono turns out!

    I have that SF Sorrow album on a twofer double album released in the seventies on Rare Earth records. It sounds really good and I think I paid under $15 for it back in nineties when nobody was buying records.

      Good question, yes still there but perhaps a little less pronounced. I played it both with stereo and the mono switch engaged. I don't have a dedicated mono cart right now for this turntable but from what I understand, unless you get a pretty decent mono cart, the mono switch will serve you just fine.
