- The Willie Clancy Summer School prides itself on having the finest traditional Irish music from Ireland and abroad.
The week long summer school of traditional Irish music and dance is held every year in Miltown Malbay in County Clare. The event commemorates the town’s best-known musician, uilleann piper, Willie Clancy and has been running since 1973.
The Willie Clancy Summer School is now established as the leading summer traditional arts festival in the country.
Director of the Willie Clancy Summer Schoool, Muiris Ó Rócháin says that what is unique about the school is the high-quality teaching with some of the best musicians from around the world.
High standards and professional standards down through the years has been our success really.
Miltown Malbay has always been a stronghold of traditional music and over the years it has become an academy for Irish music, song and dance. The festival brings people to the town and as a result, benefits the local economy.

Young, old people and people of many different ages in between playing music together, to come together, the start playing music then they walk down the street a short distance and start to play with other musicians, some they never meet before and they produce the very best music that ears can hear and enjoy

My lovely home town
I say to heck with the critics and their criticism, let the people come together and play, dance, sing and tell their stories to their heart's content

Some great players there - Noel Hill, John & James Kelly, Bobby Casey, and Johnny McGreevy, Johnny over from Chicago (of Co. Mayo parentage). I bet some of those kids in the classes are now rip-roaring players.

Brilliant! But Miltown Malbay is a first rate dump - no character. That's why it's remarkable it's such a Mecca. There should be some serious thought given to making MM an architectural gem with a great concert hall. There's only one decent restaurant .Of course, Spanish Point is walking distance (beautiful) but no nice eats even there!
