@@BMTroubleU The "Let it Go" song from Frozen literally says "no right, no wrong, no rules for me, I'm free". I would say these are bad values to teach children.
All three are conmen who do not believe the things they are saying. With Peterson and Rubin, we can prove that simply by listening to what they said before they started their grifter careers, ten years ago. With Shapiro, I cannot prove it because he has been playing this role his entire life. But he is smart enough to know that Rubin and Peterson are just grifters, so why would he talk to them if he himself were the real deal? _
Thats the beauty of old classic children stories. They are basically moral stories in disguise. Edit: wow, didnt new this wasnt common knowledge for many. there is even a word for this in spanish: "moraleja", meaning "a message that is conveyed or a lesson to be learned from a story or event", basically all fairytale stories are "moralejas".
I remember rewatcing the Avatar the last airbender because I like it when I was younger and afterwards was shocked because it was just as enjoyable. The character arc of the villain Zuko is full of values. If you haven't watched it you should.
Yes and no. Jesus quotes the scriptures as the ultimate standard of truth and justice. He spoke in parables as a punishment for the religious Jews at the time in fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy.
Teach them the one about god killing everyone on the planet with a flood. Loads of lovely books about that one, with all the animals and the drowning...
True my mom was such a great person. I use to listen specially the stories about religious figures, heroes, Samaritans…. It helps because you want to be good as the heroes.
It’s so nice to have too eloquently spoken people speak so informatively and passionately about a topic they both agree on after being used to proving people wrong for so long
It’s important when they use the term myth it doesn’t mean a story that isn’t true. myth = story. Some are true and some are not. If our values are based on true myths the values taught will stand up to time and scrutiny.
I remember teaching my students (around the time of Easter l/spring break) about Passover and Exodus, and then reading a passage of the Last Supper and it makena student connect the dots with communion. I really enjoyed teaching the lesson.
Love to see two people interrupting each other, not because they're arguing, but because they're so excited to have someone to speak with who sees the world in a similar light.
I have strong values and they are values that should be adhered to in society. I remember the stories, I thought they were ridiculous as a child hearing them and that only grew as I got older. My parents were both hard working people and passed on their ethics and values down to their children. Parents are who are responsible for the next generation of individuals who have good values and ethics. I think most parents don't do a good job at teaching their kids what really matters.
Wow! This is great! I never thought about this, but I have always told the story first before the value! I guess I’m lucky and it has helped me in my coaching career!
A good allegory or parable is in essence a proof by contradiction to prove the point you’re trying to make about values. You have a character fail to achieve the goal of the virtue and then examine what would happen to such a person as a result. Because it is never pleasant, this acts as a demonstration of the negative consequences of failing to meet the virtue, encouraging the listener to strive to meet the expectations of that virtue in order to avoid those consequences.
Hence, the subconscious motivation for bedtime stories. Parents need to know they're the guide through the Forest of Overwhelment, with a new lesson plan every single day.
I know most likely they are respectively far too busy, but a regular collaboration if they had time for Jordan to be on Ben's show and them discussing different topics would be amazing, they are both incredibly intellectual and intelligent. I don't agree with 100% everything Ben says (i am pro choice) or Jordan (i dont want kids, and at 38 i am very happy with that choice and that's never going to be something i regret in the future) but I always respect their opinions and appreciate their perspectives and I am a massive fan of both of these gentlemen ♡
Why I agree it'd perfectly reasonable to investigate historical stories, rather biblical or non biblical, if all historical stories are just myth, wouldn't the values be myth as well. I realize no one is claiming the stories are all myth. But if they were, I would certainly question the value of them. It's like trying to teach a truth via a lie.
@@jad2290 i disagree .... They promote friendship and family.. And determination to go further in life... And not letting anything come in between you and your destiny...
I would feel more comfortable if the vet had taken my cat’s whole ball container instead of leaving it deflated so my 10 year old daughter calls him ‘Sir Tiny Butt cheeks.”
So the story of Hanzel and Gretle is about gluttony and not paying attention to when things are too good to be true. On the other hand, Goldilocks is about not staying at the scene of the crime too long. Grab the porridge that's too hot and beat it. When you get somewhere safe it'll be juuuust right.
I don't generally agree with Shapiro. But I am on board with this. I have been scolded by Bible literalists because I have said I don't know if the Bible is true or not, in fact I believe it tends towards allegory. However, the story is inspiring and meaningful to me. So I read and think upon the Bible.
Surely ‘the stories’ were created purely for this reason, to teach values. It matters not if the story is factual, partially based on fact or made up, the purpose is the same…..to teach.
Ben Shapiro doesn't even come close to Dr. Peterson when articulation of words is compared and JP is very down to earth and calm and kind yet firm in his approach whereas Ben is arrogant to say the least and is far from articulate and thinks he knows everything not JP, his approach is that he's always learning in every interview he does. That is why Shapiro could learn from JP a lot although he debates for right things and against all wrong he could learn a bit of humility and swagger of JP a little. Then I'm sure he'll be respected more even by his rivals and debatees. P.S i said this because i have seen Shapiro and I have seen Dr. Peterson and you can clearly see who is listening more and who is blabbering like he knows everything.
i can't tell if he's arguing with jp or not, jp is all about stories from religion, jp knows his audience is generally past the age of belief so he has to change his delivery of understanding values based on the landscape in which he's traversing

This is what makes the Bible the number one selling book in the world, the story's grab your attention and teach you morality in the process.
