I legit don't understand how Sam's voice sounds so powerful without it sounding like shouting. His voice is literal butter, it's insane.
The best reverb and echo you can get. I’ve noticed when doing some covers of Sam Cooke the reverb is needed hugely. He used a type in the studio , that when he sang low volume the echo didn’t react much but when he sings louder volume the echo/reverb acts accordingly, I’d love to find out myself exactly wich setting he used. If you use
Normal reverb it sounds great but a little messy. Hope this helps. I love Sam ❤

I’m a 68 baby, i keep rediscovering Sam Cooke over and over again and it never gets old.
I heard on a documentary about his life that he wrote this song a short time after his 18 month old son drowned in the swimming pool at his home, his wife was there but the child somehow was by himself near the pool. That verse "I wish my baby would come and tell me everything is still alright" has a double meaning.
