My two best friends recently died. One of them a month ago, the other a year ago. One night the three of us were hanging out on a Saturday night having ourselves a good time, laughing and driving around when my friend in the passenger seat asked my friend sitting in the backseat to sing for us. My friend in the backseat could sing very well and was in a gospel group with his brothers. He sang "a change gonna come". Little did I know that he was going to end up singing it to his funeral months later and now he's gone now too. These men were literally like brothers to me and now each time I hear this beautiful song, I dedicate it to them. Junie and JD, this is for you. My brothers

When my daughter turned 13 yo (1992) I presented her with a CD of Sam Cooke's Greatest Hits. As she got older, she continuously reminded me about receiving the music and how much she loved Sam's voice. All I could say was 'Wait until you understand what he was singing, not just the tune or the melody'.

Barbi Button we’re not at a point that satisfy humanity today and we’re fighting but during centuries before us, people were already struggling for a better world and the freedom that we know today as the freedom that we have to aim is not the freedom that humans were fighting for a few years ago : this was harder to believe in because the freedom is searching everyday above the limits that were posed yesterday because of the fights that we all still have today and the fights that people had before us sacrificing their lives for better days. I think that what he meant by the « freedom we know today ».

What BS. Stop your pity party. You live in the USA where 50% of the world is trying to come to, including many Africans. We have the greatest economy in the world. Did you know your father? Do have a HS diploma? Do you have a job? Any kids? Work hard, build wealth and take care of your kids so they have a father who loves them and can guide them into a better life. Read more and weep for yourself a whole lot less. PS Sam was not your "brother".

@@thomasluby1754 : Do you realize there still isn't equality in this country? Anytime I walk down the street and I am stopped because they don't think I belong in the neighborhood. I bought a home in a nice neighborhood where my white neighbors don't think I belong. So many blacks have to deal with that. Our home appraisals are valued at so much less but ask your white friend to stay and put up pictures of her white family and boom it's value is 100k higher. It's that shit that makes things hard. It is me being looked over for a promotion but the person they picked has zero experience but the customer wanted someone white to represent her. They obliged because she brings millions to the company. I get so tired. It happens so many times to black folks and we get tired. Maybe Africans should stay in Africa instead of allowing other countries to take their resources. Oh yeah. They can't. They sold off their best and brightest in the slave trade.

Currently in rehab. First week detox. I’m starting to feel emotions again. I’m realizing the pain and suffering I’ve caused my family. I’m trying my vest to be an honest person again and you know that us addicts have to fight like hell because our lives depend on being clean. This morning I was outside smoking and this popped into my head. Played it out loud on my phone because I sold my headphones and speakers for drug money (of course), and I realized the change came right there. I hope you did too, and I hope you’re still clean. If not, get your shit together right now because you’re gonna die and be remembered as a junky. It’s up to us. I’m sorry for this comment being a little all over the place. I’m only a few days clean and I can’t think right yet. All the best, Jennifer.

I always loved that voice and songs like Wonderful World, Cupid, You Send Me were really beautiful, but when I listened to A Change Is Gonna Come, even as a young lad that song used to hit me in a kind of spiritual way.
