That is situation on 2km front of 1500km long one. They are out of man willing to fight so it's fair question; Are you ready to replace 👠 with 👢 and join the war? Imagine what life was like when Ireland was fighting (still fighting, God bless 'em in the north) for their independence from their colonial overlords, the English. Would you want Ukraine to be tramped and starved and shot as your country was by a larger enemy - and to face the enemy alone when we can help? Empathy is a good thing to have. Don't disparage support for Ukraine just because you feel depressed and want to never have hope lest it fail you in the end. We will win (even in the rare chance we/Ukraine lose) because we have fought & advocated for their & by extension, our, freedoms. That is something anyone should be proud of, no matter the outcome.

      All western countries are in the end pacifist. A pacifist doesnt choose violence to resolve a conflict. But they do defend themselves. So don't confuse pacifist with Scholz attitude. He is passive because he doesnt want to escalate. He fails to understand that this can't escalate more. It is in essence a war between Europe and north america vs Russia. With Ukraine as our champion. Being passive only hurt our cause. Our defense.

      Yeah, while politicians from the german greens (founded by pacifists and hippies) and the german liberals finally face the reality, and demand Scholz to do more, because realities have changed their views. Crazy. But it gives you hope to see, that there still are sane people in our government, able to face the facts, despite their own ideologies. Because they finally got that peace only works, if you are willing to defend the peace. However, I'm very disappointed by Scholz so far. He's so passive and quiet and a bad communicator. But he was even before the war. He always was.

Shut up and get the job done. Bullies love pearl clutchers and Europeans who act “reasonable” by procrastinating and delaying bold moves. This is a smokescreen for weakness and nobody outside of Europe is fooled. NATO looks like they’re just killing time, waiting for Uncle Sam to pony up with expensive weapons and save their bacon. The UK and Ukraine need to send their diplomatic heavy hitters to Canada, Australia, New Zealand for $15 billion / $10 billion / $2 billion euro military aid back-payments from each of these countries.
    Also UK should request $2 billion back-payment of military aid for Ukraine from Portugal under the Anglo-Portuguese Alliance signed in 1386 AD (640 years ago).

      Australia and New Zealand are practically at the antipodes of Ukraine. Of course their problem is much the same as ours in Europe, a temporarily insane USA and a nearby aggressor, China instead of Russia. Now China is much more constructive than Russia, but also more powerful. Russia apart from fossil fuels and an oversized military got nothing.
      Anyway, while I think Oceania can understand our plight, I think it is better to appreciate what they have done and are doing for Ukraine rather than go to them for a shakedown.

    Stuff will happen, like that last leadership change. Yeltsin was the golden boy but failing fast... they looked hastily for a replacement (that the oligarchs agreed too) and Putin seemed the very best of all worlds. Something similar will happen this time round... great haste and no time to choose wisely, someone palatable will appear, oligarchs will give their seal and they will get a breather, a success of sorts, in time for the midterms that will last for a couple of years like last time.

    • @markbryant4641
      @markbryant4641 Місяць тому

      Dunno about that, Mark. I've been watching, reading and listening to Hodges since the invasion.
      He seems to have no idea about Russia's military. Or Ukraine's. And he comes up with absolutely bizarre strategies.
      His fixation on the bridge for instance.
      He's straight up said that knocking the bridge down will directly lead to an end to the war.
      Ridiculous!
      It's amazing that he was head of NATO Europe but his understanding of Russia's military, economy and MIC capabilities is way off mark.
      He doesn't even seem to have basic knowledge of Russia's weapons.
      It's really strange to me. Is he misinforming us to have us believe things that aren't true?
      Or is he simply wrong. Over and over and over again.
      Sullivan is the same.

      In part this has helped the more obtuse countries get a move on, but the major shift is that Putin picked full war instead of the hybrid invasions he did before.

    • @jaxvoice718
      @jaxvoice718 Місяць тому

      Maybe, but part of the strategy was to nudge Putin away from actually invading. It's also been a policy for NATO not to attack Russia or the Russian military, but rather to support Ukraine "for as long as it takes". Painfully slow that narrative is changing into the more useful "Ukraine must win", but it is formally important that this is support of Ukraine, not an attack on Russia (e.g. regime change and the like).

    It is incongruous to frame the problem of virtually no one in NATO pulling their share of the weight as a problem with American politicians complaining about it! Political complaints from the US about other NATO countries financial and military slovenliness is not irrational! I'm not even an American but Times Radio needs to up their game and think these issues through. And Ben Hodges needs to learn to side step these sorts of issues and questions and recognize them for what they are--just an attempt to shift responsibility for NATO funding and manpower to the Americans all over again. If the various governments of Europe and Canada (I am a Canadian) won't get off their lazy derrieres and become responsible adults then they deserve to be left out in the cold.
    Many, many Canadians feel the same and see the current Liberal party of Canada as the most radical and irresponsible in the country's history. Period.
