  • I don't know about you, but I just love comfort food. Bangers and mashed is one of those classic British recipes that will touch your heart and soul. Made with a delicious combination of pork sausages, mashed potatoes, and a dark rich onion gravy, this dish is the ultimate classic comfort food. It can be made in about 30 minutes. Best yet, it's budget friendly. The dish will feed about 4 people and costs between 10 and 12 dollars.
NOTE: I have been having trouble with the website as of last night, so I have put the recipe below. Sorry for the inconvenience. It should be back up soon.
As always, watch the video, give it a try, and let us know what you think.
    Video Chapters:

0:18 How to fry the sausage (Bangers)
1:28 How to make onion gravy
    3:29 Mashing the potatoes
4:33 Plating the bangers and mashed
    5:36 Conclusion
    Ingredients:
    2 potatoes, cubed
    5 - 6 banger sausages
1 red onion, cut into slices (You can use the onion of your choice)
    1 tbsp of butter
    1 tbsp of olive oil
    3 cloves of garlic, chopped
    2 tbsp of milk
    1 tsp of garlic powder
    1/2 tsp of salt
    1 tsp of pepper
    1 tbsp of Worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 cups of beef broth (I use a Knorr mix with water/beef cubes can also be used)
2 tbsp of all purpose flour
For the full printable recipe, visit: cooknshare.com/recipe/recipe/...
    Method:
Boil the potatoes for 10 to 15 minutes until fork tender.
While the potatoes are boiling, add the butter and olive oil to a pan over medium high heat. Place the sausage in and fry for about 4 minutes on each side until browned.
Set them aside on a plate.
In the same pan, add the onions in and fry until soft and just about caramelized. Add in the garlic and saute until fragrant.
Add in the flour. Stir and cook for a minute or two.
Pour in half the broth and stir until combined.
Add in the remaining broth, bring to a boil, and stir until it thickens.
Put the Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper in. Stir once again.
Set aside for a few minutes.
Add the milk, butter, salt, pepper, and garlic powder to the potatoes. Mash until smooth and creamy. You can put more milk in if necessary.
Place the potatoes on a plate, put two of the bangers over the top, and spoon the onion gravy over.
Spoon some peas on the side, serve, and enjoy.

Thanks - I just made this and it came out great, didn't realize it was all that easy! The gravy got a little thick when I went back for round 2, but it was fine. It also wasn't as beefy as I had hoped, I forgot to add Worcesteshire Sauce and I used Better Than Boullion to make the broth, wasn't the best beef flavor but again, it worked out just fine, it was a lovely onion gravy nonetheless - thank you - will make again

@@TheCooknShare well no I didn't get the notifications. I did make the Hamburger Helper but I think I will have to cut the Chilli powder I'm half or more. Whew I'm not a spice type person. I didn't have brown sugar either. I did put just a touch of white sugar in hoping to cut the spiciness down. It didn't help so I did add the tomato like you suggested. Not tried it yet cause I'm waiting on the cheese to melt. I think if I make it again I was thinking mushrooms. I would of added them now but I need a bigger pan. I've had this one so long and is always my go-to pan. I don't want non stick but its got to be bigger than what I have now.

Hmmm. That's funny. Is your bell checked off and stuff? Excellent the way you changed things around, Becky. Yes, mushrooms would be great too. Maybe time for a new pan, I guess. Sounds like you enjoyed it though. Take care my friend.

I think one of the main ingredients in a banger is “cereal” also. I picture it as a finely ground breadcrumb- like filler to fill out the banger with its water filler.

Hi Dave, hope you are well. My husband Robert would have a fit. He is a butcher by trade and you pricking the sausages he would say that's to keep the flavour in. By the way if you making champ put your scallions in a drop of milk and let it simmer to soften the scallions. Then mix with your mashed potatoes. Proper Irish champ. Love Lyn xxxx Happy Easter.🐰🐰🐰

I'm originally from the states. Left there for Australia almost 30 years ago. I'd never heard them called bangers until I moved here. My how things have changed. And that meal is on everyone's table here. (Btw, Aussies also call sausages "snags"). Happy Easter ✌️❤️

@@SmallSnailMarie Back in the day, there were these sites called message boards. Like a precursor to MySpace or FB. Lots of topics people talked about on them. Someone would make a post about something or ask a question. Anybody could reply. His comment was real cheeky. It made lol for real. And he's kept me laughing ever since. We have good friends here that met on a gaming site that ended up married with kids. I know caution is necessary.....there's a lot of weirdos out there. But not all online people are bad. Friends & family in the states thought I was nuts to even come visit and even nuttier for moving here. Ain't live grand?!!!

Good. Personally I do not prick my Sausages just subject them to a low heat for a long time ever since my first-ish cooking session after which I asked my local shop keeper why my sausages were well done on the outside and not in the middle (I was young) and she told me to cook them slowly for a long time, so I have ever since. Never buy those cheap sausages you mentioned.
