Okay so this the movie version because that straight up not his motivation in comics. Also he alot more powerful in comics where he wouldn't need much to take down most of Earth's hero's from either vers without the gauntlet. Heavy hitters like Superman, base Savage Hulk, Thor, ect, can definitely challenge him but definitely not stop him. You would need more space or cosmic level characters to pose an actual threat, and even then this guys grown in so much power over the decades that if you told me he could take on Celestials I'd believe it.
Look, I get that many writers have written the possibility for exceptions to the no-kill rule, but that is both a copout for storytelling AND it feels out of character even if it has happened before. Because of that, I will provide two contingency plans that do not require Thanos’s death: 1. Explain to him in detail why his plan would not work. Ignoring all ethical arguments, there are still a lot of logical reasons why his plan would not work, and there are better alternatives. We know Thanos CAN be convinced because of What If. Still, this plan does have a high potential for failure, which is why I have the second one. 2. Do the plan from Infinity War with some alterations. Star-Lord’s plan from Infinity War was really good, but it did go wrong. Regardless, I believe that one small change to the plan would have made it successful: drones. The plan to remove the gauntlet would have worked if not for Quill breaking Thanos free out of anger, so utilizing drones to both hold back Quill (potentially releasing a knockout gas as well) and to give more leverage when pulling the gauntlet off should be effective. At this point, Strange can use magic to hide the remaining stones, and Thanos can be taken into custody as long as he does not break from Mantis. In the case that he does, however, because this is supposed to be Batman’s contingency plan, and Batman has access to the DC universe, he could call in other heroes capable of taking him down without the gauntlet, such as Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Dr. Fate, and Martian Manhunter.
