It was the S/42 marked Lugers that are associated with the "Black Widow" . The term was invented by a gun dealer in the 1960's however the original black grips can go for between $500 and $1000 but there is no difference in the gun itself .
The trigger and safety lever were not stainless, they were straw colored. At this point Mauser P08s were mostly all blued parts. "Black Widow" was a term created by GI's. It has become a marketing ploy to increase the value of the Lugers produced with black bakelite grips and black bottom magazines. They usually fall between 1941-42 manufacture. Mauser stopped production of the Luger in 1942.
