- Pro/con of Jackery batteries, anti-fungal spray the cabin studs and I collect and spread puffball spores. And sight in the 30-30 finally!
It's been months since I shot a 24 hour video of living alone out here in the woods. No chainsaws on this day!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Because I’ve gotten so many questions about the gear that I use on the channel, here are some of the most important pieces I use every day:
(I do receive a small commission from sales associated with the following links. Any income from these sales goes directly to supporting me in making new videos for this channel!)
**I will not share links to products that I don't use regularly or that I wouldn't buy again.**
Small wifi microscope amzn.to/3yQciT9
The noise cancelling earbuds that fit under my muffs amzn.to/3QwoS0Z
Granberg chainsaw mill amzn.to/3cdRXvn
My favorite piece of gear: chainsaw helmet amzn.to/3uuW5xB
How I keep the mosquitoes away! amzn.to/3frenvh
The trailer I use behind my four wheeler Yutrax amzn.to/3fvO8DK
Thank you all so much for supporting this crazy endeavor! Without you folks donating to Surviving Ringworm, I wouldn't be able to even consider staying out here in the wilderness a THIRD year making videos. You seriously blow my mind!

Glad you like the planer, mate. We all thought about it a lot, really stoked we picked the right gift.
Super cool!
Finally sold my house and I'm in the process of setting up a campsite. Got our first living shelter up yesterday on a platform of plastic pallets and plywood and a few deck boards around the border. Need to set up another just like it for my son and then we're setting up a chicken run and coup and a turkey run. Once we're done with those we'll be ready to move our 6 dogs, 17 chickens and 4 turkeys out there and start being full-time campers. Thanks for doing your channel. I've wanted to do this for many years and watching you do it has really motivated me to make it happen. Quit my cubicle job earlier this year in March and have been getting things prepared ever since. I had to wait for the house to sell to be able to buy a 4-wheeler and some good quality shelters for my son and I and for our birds, so it's taken a while to be ready, but we're finally there. The camp is cleared for our shelters, we have a nice fire pit, a good supply of wood for heating our shelters this winter, several tent stoves of various sizes and solar and gas generators, etc. I expect to be out there camping for good by Halloween. Happy birthday and thanks again.
very cool Wookie Jesus... I'm trying to do the same... solo. It's the hardest thing I've ever done. No idea if I'm going to make. Lol
God Bless you!!!!! So happy for your MOVE!!!!
Hey Ryan. Great to See You're Keeping the Faith. No going back Brother. Alone in the Forest is Special. Addictive. Visits are important and Enjoyable but You're Living The Life Brother. Fall here in Ontario has been dry and Lovely. I'm east of You but on the same latitude. We're like squirrels right about now preparing for the Great White Blanket coming soon. Real soon. Enjoy it All.
You should be setting up rain barrels around evey structure on that site, You get months of heavy rain where you could collect and store fresh water. There are plastic barrels for sale on marketplace all the time. Even if you didn't feel comfortable drinking the water, it could provide all non-potable water for the site. You could carve some nice cedar rain gutters with a chain saw, it's right up your alley.
I love watching to see how life should be lived, free and relaxed. 👍
Just discovered your videos. Im already addicted to your attitude and personality. I’m binge watching your videos from the beginning and also skip forward sometimes and see the progress you have achieved. I’m envious and wish I could live that life. I’m still saving for the land. I already have most of the tools. Like the Alaskan grandberg 777 mill. A white duck canvas tent with a winner well woodlander stove and a joolca on demand hot water shower and sink just to name a few things. Be safe out there by yourself and keep the great videos coming.
Thanks for sharing your life in the woods and all your buildings. You are living the life alot of us would love to do. Stay safe, God bless!
Love that 30-30. My Dad always had one on his saddle when he was working as a cowboy back in the 70's. Saw him drop an elk from well over 200 yards, open sights.
I can't WAIT to see the results of this mushroom experiment! Thanks for mixing it up, that's a big part of what makes your channel interesting every week.
I asked my grandfather if he knew how to tell if a mushroom was poisonous. He said the best way he found was to give some to a neighbor then watch the obituaries.
I think it’s interesting I came for the mushrooms, which were at the very end, after the ‘do what’s fun’ speech. I’ve been working telco 49 years, everything from climbing poles to IT. At the beginning of the year I bought a new truck, last month I bought a used camper, and ever since, the planets have been lined up to put tons of stuff in my way to keep me from working. Had to go help my aunt in Michigan for a week (from Missouri) had to move back to the office Oct 12 and have had to take several hours off each day for appointments. I saw the financial planner two days ago and she said, “Set the retirement date!” I kept wondering though, I love the job; it’s been mine and my family’s savior for so long. I know I need to hit the road - it’s always been my dream. So I’m going to set the date and travel! Thanks for the great works, great vids(I’ll still be watching) and be careful out there!
Congratulations to Surviving Ringworm on reaching 50K subscribers! Thanks for the video Ryan!
Hello from the Netherlands .
thanks for the video Ryan .
Sincerely, Hollandduck
You could make mushroom tower. You used like 12 4ft logs stack them with air gap between each layer in a shady area and mushrooms should grow. As they do you pick as needed
These are your videos I love the most. You doing ten things at once and philosiphizin.
Hey bud, enjoy all your videos. You’re living the life. I do something similar but not quite as remote as you are. I have a bandsaw mill and love it. Just to let you know, if you put your floor down and walk on it before planing it, you will get dirt in it and when you go to plane it , it will destroy your blades.
this was a fun video dont know why you dont do it more . hey you have at least two roofs now and there of pretty good size for the size of buildings you can make . why not get some gutters from the re store or where ever you can cheap and use them to collect rain water . collecting rain water is legal in all 50 states i think a couple states have limits on it for what ever reason but there not Michigan. now it would still suck in the winter but spring summer and fall it rains and from watching other channels that do it i can say with a fairly good roof it would not take very much rain to fill your water tower up .and how much fun would it be like lots of fun right . also maybe we can talk water filtration at some point . two 5 gallon buckets some activated .charcoal and a water spout and you pretty much have a berky water filter . you dont really have to use activated charcoal regular charcoal would work but activated charcoal works like ten times better . its funny i been trying to learn more about activated charcoal on how its made it is pretty interesting on how its done . basically its charcoal thats washed really really well . then its baked dry . the smaller it is the better it is for water filtration . but it is also used as air purification and it should be larger so air can pass through it . from like a fan . but you can put regular charcoal out on a plate and it will absorb stinky odors . just fun facts . charcoal is pretty easy to make as well . that aspen wood you got would make great charcoal . all them scraps you burn . maybe not the cedar so much . just need a metal 50 gallon drum with a locking lid . a small hole to release gas . set a fire under it and burn it . the gas coming out of the hole can even be on the bottom of the barrel so the gases can feed the fire . once the gas stops burning its done keep the lid on it till it cools off and cover the hole so no oxygen can get in and when it cools off you have almost a full barrel of charcoal . ok im done long comment i know im sorry . take care work safe .
Collecting rainwater is NOT legal in all 50 states. In Washington state ALL rainwater belongs to the state. No intentional collecting. Period. I think it's an insane policy but I don't live there and will never. I live in Idaho where we are still mostly "free" and the rain can be collected and used. IIRC in Oregon a couple of years ago a property owner built a small pond to collect rainwater and the state came in and removed the pond/dam as it was illegally collecting/diverting the state's water.... they also prosecuted him. I think that your suggestion for Ringworm to use gutters and store rainwater is a great idea no matter what his state says about it. Eventually We the People are going to have to stand up to these tyrants that want to control every aspect of our lives. Nullify the insanity by refusing to comply.
@@justme-n-gracie steve buddy Washington state was not legal until 2009 when they reversed that law . how ever it is still illegal in some of the county's due to old laws that still have not changed . i live in Michigan and know its legal here . Washington state is right next to California so we all know there crazy that way . how ever i do agree with you about the we the people statement . google is it legal to collect rain water in all 50 states . here is what i found i searched it just for fun . While rainwater collection is legal in every state in the nation-there is no federal regulation-many states and municipalities do have restrictions on the practice. Other states, particularly western states with dry climates, encourage rainwater collection (aka rainwater harvesting) to ease the burden on local water systems.
I seen one person build a little half height addition to his tiny house and insulated it to store one water tank like the ones you got. Allows him to keep water thawed and feed a hot water heater for his shower stall. He also placed a laundry sink in his shower stall when he's not using shower so he can use the sink and just let it drain into the shower drain.
To address the floor on your shower, have you ever thought of just widening the cracks a bit? Say the width of your chainsaw. That would allow more water to go through. And possibly prevent it from freezing solid across them. just a thought. I love the videos, keep them coming.
I mentioned that when He built it. Pepper it full of Holes and Slots.
Dawns here 🌞don’t waste good tools. I have sharpened many shovels to cut weeds before spraying. Big scoop shovels are necessary for clean ups.
You can get rid of those stumps by burning them, just cut a plus sign into them and then soak them in kerosene/charcoal lighter fluid.
Shovel grilling began, so legend goes, with a rancher in the Australian outback who had lamb (no shortage of that in Australia) and a campfire, but no grill grate to position over it.
So he sterilized the blade of shovel in the hot flames, arranged lamb chops seasoned with salt and pepper on it and grilled the lamb on the spade thrust directly into the fire.
Im really looking forward to seeing how your puffball experiment goes. Ps i really enjoy watching your videos, Cheers from Australia
I'm very interested in seeing how well your planer works on the generator 👍 I'm in a house with old electrical wiring so I don't want to stress it and start a fire 🤣
If yours works great I may have to reconsider buying one to run on our ecoflow generator/battery system... it would make woodworking a lot easier!
Hi there! When the swamps are dry it’s a really good time to build yourself a spring box 💧
Great content thanx for not changing keeping it real
Hope the mushroom farm works be happy be safe don't over do it take of your back
Awesome planer Ryan! Can't wait to see you make some awesome things with it. I loved this video, it was a great change of pace seeing a day at Ringworm. Thanks for sharing!
If you want a deer and preserve it, get yourself a pressure canner and some pint jars. Cut the meat up and can it. All you need is some clean water. You can use the canner on a camp stove as long as you can burn it for 90 minutes. The meat will keep like that for 2 or 3 years...maybe more. The rest if it you can smoke or make jerky. I can deer every year to make hash or cook with vegetables and you add your spices to it when you get ready to use it. It's a little work, but worth your while.
Ryan I think the reason that the days are shrinking is all of the rain we have had in these parts !!! What do you think??? Am glad you had a great HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!!
A man, No plan, a planer= Furniture!! That is gonna be good. You have cut some pretty wood. 🤞🏼on the puffball farm.
You know what
I believe who ever follows your channel
has thought about living on their own terms
Thanks
I completely enjoy what ever you share with us.
You are absolutely entertaining what ever you do.
Cheers
what I came for: building
what I got: man and fungi being bros
NOT disappointed 🤣👍🚀
The circle of life - killing fungi and birthing fungi. Really interested seeing how the spore slurry works out! 🍄
I downsized from a Government Service Job and a Five Bedroom House to a Pension and a Two Bedroom Cottage and dumped a huge amount of Stress in the process.
I’ve had that planer for years. You’ll love it. 2 speeds are nice.
love the everyday life video. thank you
Don’t forget to remember don’t paint (your red Quad ) just vinyl wrap with camouflage for your personality.
Ha ha ha ha you are going to have a bunch of mushrooms around your picnic table mushroom mixture prep area. It’s gonna be fun to see if your water mixed planned mushrooms work. I hope so and hope you are Rich in Mushroom mania😆👌👍😉
Happy Birthday, Ryan. I have been following you for ever - one ear tuned to you talking about this or that as you ricochet from project to project without any kind of rhythm that I can recognize while I work on my next novel. However, your new plans for the cabin gives my OCD nature a chance to settle down. I am looking forward to your newest adventure and being surprised with how well they turn out.
I'm in The Up at the old hunt cabin, no water or electricity either, my favorite place in the world. It's only bow hunting right now so highly unlikely you'd get an arrow piercing .....remember safety second
Maybe Build a sauna/shower? Dig a water well in the swamp? It’s all so confusing I’m glad u know what u know - I learn so much- it’s very fascinating!! Glad to see how generators work😊
Those aren't "generators" even though they are billed as such. They are battery storage devices with an AC inverter. Yeah you probably knew that already. Powerbank would probably be he most correct name. Calling them "generators" is a Chinese misuse of English. Let's not perpetuate that please
Blessings, Ryan, from this old man in northeast Tennessee. I still think you should build a wood burning water heater, for showers. Great content. Thanks for sharing.
You should build a greenhouse around your water supply and paint the barrels black to keep them above freezing throughout the winter
@Surviving, for the cabin floor do an oiled end grain floor. Save the off cuts from your "dimensioned" lumber, cut to 1.5 inch long, lay tar paper on existing sub-floor, place on end grain up on tar paper, spray suitable oil on new floor!
Love the worm, everything stops for my Saturday dose of Ringworm and today is no different... did you ever get your "I'd trade my wife and kids for Ringworm." t-shirt?🤣
Ryan, you have lost weight!! And gained muscle mass! Congratulations Bud.
"Only thing that's worse than being shot is being shot on your own property."
I about blew a lung out laughing so hard but it's definitely true haha.
hell yeah, thicknesser. you deserve it!
I woke up at 4 am wondering if your video had dropped yet....love yoyr content.
I really enjoy your videos. Thank you for sharing your life with us. The planar is nice, I have one just like it. Looking forward to seeing the rustic chic cabin finishing.
A better way to keep and spread spores. Put the puff balls in a bucket with a lid and peat moss. Shake it up, let it settle, and then spread the peat where you want mushrooms to grow.
I know that it is now too late in the season to do this year, but if you are looking for a use for your sawdust; you could make piles of sawdust and inoculate them with edible mushroom spores. I have seen people grow mushrooms in plastic bags full of sawdust. If you want more mushroom variety just do a search online for mushroom spores. There are plenty of places that sell them.
Your water table can not be that deep could you not make some sort of well? I dont know how well that would do in your winter but most of the year you would have water I would think. Dont burn all your wood chips and saw dust the mushrooms love that fresh stuff.
Been watching your channel for some time now I really enjoy your adventures.
Book recommendation for you Mycelium Running by Paul Stamets. Lots of info in it including propagating mushrooms.
Cheers
He hasn't done a well yet cause the ground is totally packed with rocks and boulders. Also there's no way to get a tryck back there with a proper well digger. But he's been trying to some up with a diy way to do it soon cause he will have to in order to really live there year round!
@@sarawoodruff4357 Yes I saw the rocks when he has been digging for the posts. The reason I mentioned it is he has that swampy area normally most times of year so the water can not be that deep. I dont know how hard it is to get in there but I understand what you are saying. Seeing how hard he works I am sure he could do it by hand got to dig around them rocks have to go wide to get deep by hand in that situation lol. I know he will get there one way or another. I collect a lot of water off my garage roof more water than I can catch I need more storage. Only off one side at the moment too. But enough to water my green house garden plant pots rabbits and chickens most of the year. The new cabin is bigger than my single garage that could harvest a lot of water.
I always look forward to his new videos he is living the dream and I enjoy his sense of humor too.
@@SouthpawDavey he's been thinking of having a "well-digging party" 😆 Which really just means that me, Tito and Ryan's brother will just end up helping him dig it by hand lol
@@sarawoodruff4357 Well digging party I like it lol. he supplies the beer and food you make the hole.
The spores can likely travel for miles, but you concentrating them to a specific area is likely more useful for habitation.
Hope you got a high yield from this.
Great video. 24 hours in the life of the Worm. Enjoyed it start to finish. Thank you for sharing.
Ringworm, this is Paul in Youngstown Ohio. Mitchygoss mentioned one in one of her vedios today about nails from the restore. I like to watch this lady too. She is probably watching one build stuff too. She builds stuff too. I took my ar-15 lower receivers off and the rifles and pistol are kits now and can be mailed to people. To get them up firing again a lower receiver and lower receiver parts kits have to be purchased separtly from a gun shop. I have an .223 pistol, an 9mm rifle pistol, a 20 barrelled rifle with military furniture for target practice, and an ar-10 .308 winchester. The 20 inch ar 15 rifle, an upper with a butt stock, gas with flat top is $550 pluss shipping. The ar 10 with a 19 inch barrel, in 308 winchest is an upper receiver with a butt stock and sping and buffer is $600.00 pluss the shipping. The ar 15 9mm pistol kit with free floating barrel is $400.00 pluss shipping. with a flapper for a but stock, sping and buffer . ar 15 postol kit with upper, flapper, sping and buffer is $400.00 pluss shipping. With out a lower receiver or lower receiver parts, these are considered parts kits. The uppers are all brand new and the stock, spring, and buffer. Within a few hours after getting a lower receiver and lower parts kit one can fire these. All of them need to be broken in by firing about 200 rounds thru them. These are ready to be shipped out. I cannot sell the lower receivers or the lower receiver parts since I machined my own lowers from 80 percent stuff and my name is on them for my use only. I still like to watch one with the chain saw make lumber and build stuff. I watch on youtube many builders, smokey mountian outpost, my self reliance, girlinthewoods and her husband has a channel too. The lumna acreas is good too. There are a lot of them making homesteads too. They make outdoor kitchens, outhouses for composting with chimneys and fanceyness too. Nick some body built a big log home and this took him three and one half years to make his dream home. Cannot recall the rest. If possibly interested in any of my rifle kits let me know. It hard for me to get out of the house, am sick and a shut in at home. The rifles are new . I put them together here at home. If I could get there with one and his firends would shoot them with one too. I cannot see well enough to put the little spirings and detents in them again. ar-15 . come will help one assembly the lower receivers and lower parts. Once one put a rifle together and gets it shooting, it does not take long to do this again and agin. I did this over four times now. Have fun no matter what. Paul in Ohio.
Glad you like the gift. We knew you would. Question, how do you like your Wen generator?
Jeff C Australia 🇦🇺 don’t forget to have plenty of candle wax to get some of your green wood through the planner also fix your machine down to a sturdy box or table so you can push your timber through it good luck Jeff 😅😢ok
Will be watching any planer videos closely. I'm going to buy one just like yours and it be great if we learned together how to use it properly. Excited!
Interesting video and no chainsawing. The cabin will be great with all the plans you have for it. Be good to wear a mask when spraying the bug killer on the cabin wood. protect your lungs. Nice planer.
I like all the videos, real life... no dramas and we get a good look at living like most of us want to..
We have off grid property in AZ.. counting the days
You might be able to get some seed logs and have a gourmet selection of shrooms for your omelettes...😋
Good morning Ryan, hope your week was great!

Let the water sit with no lid for 24 hours and it will evaporate. It's how we do fishtanks. They don't like chlorine either.
The sprayer that you can't get to work... If it's the wand that isn't working, I don't have any advice for you. But if it's because it won't make pressure... If the tank will hold pressure, then drill the right size hole in the side dome of the top, and put a car tire valve stem in there. Then you can use an air compressor or hand air pump, to put pressure in the bottle.
Thank you for the video! I think you’re doing it right. Not all of us are cut out for nine to five and all it’s unnecessary “necessities”. I’ve been playing at something similar for thirty some years and at seventy eight I’m happy but still have no idea what I want to do when I grow up. Perhaps not growing up is the better choice. You have taught me several things which I will not disclose for our mutual safety. I think you will love a planer. I inherited mine which is a 240 vac brute, but does a super job. I’m gradually assembling a bandsaw mill. Might be a dumb move at my age but who’s gonna know? Keep doing what you’re doing!
Winter is coming I hope you get your cabin done before it gets too cold can’t wait to see it hope your mushrooms Pop-up see you in a week
Dont know if you have thought about this before, but I suggest investing in a hand pump well. Do the research on the water table in your area to see how far you need to go down, "Girl in the woods" has a you tube video on how to install a well on your property. Might be worth looking into....????
I think that “white shelf mushroom” is oyster mushroom, Pleurotus sp. very tasty sautéed with your eggs. But dn’t just go by the opinion of a guy looking at a video😉
Canvas tarps around the shower for the winter maybe?
Ryan, Have you thought about burying a water tank and use a hand pump that drains itself so it won’t freeze?
On youtube Doug and Stacy Off-grid, he uses these on his set up.
bandsaw mill can cut lap siding and i do small logs fast bro woodland mills with lap siding.
Now we've got a doofus with a planer. Things just got even crazier.
That's a good Michigander there, tucked in t-shirt like God intended
Pretty sweet behind the scenes look at some of the normal chore things you do when not building things. Another good tool for you would be a biscuit joiner for reconnecting all the boards you planed
also when you get the funds a Logosol F2 chainsaw mill would be perfect for you. I was going to get a band saw mill but after watching you I went with the F2+.
Someone at Patagonia wear is trying to make a rain coat out of puff mushrooms after seeing your experiment .
My thoughts on the puffballs. Collect the dry spores & spread them as a dry medium..
Oh, and happy belated birthday. I have had that plainer on my wish list for 20+ years. Maybe this Black Friday 🤷♀️
Nice planer
Just a thought, I have the same planer (I was a Stanley employee so I got a great deal on it) and you might have an issue with trying to run it on your generator. They take a lot of current and it will probably kill your generator - especially on startup.
I have a Winchester Model 94 Classic 30-30 Hex barrel. Open sights. Nice shooter...
it would be cool if any of these Fancy battery Box Mfg's would have a Dry contact closure to shut down a Genny upon Full Battery charge.
enjoyable,,,,,thanks
Amazon sells those doggy collapsible pools. U can use that in ur outdoor shower.
Thankyou
Great video 👍👍 Ryan, have you thought of mushroom plugs?
After you put the water in it dawned on me in school Learned some spores you can put on water then put your hand through it . when you pull it out your hand is bone dry. Nice try though.
12:45 in video looks like sun in the background would support solar panels
Bracken Fern, Grouse like it. Woodcock love it.

Cool machine
I spread Morel mushroom spores every spring in different places to keep them going . I get them from eBay
My first rifle was a Marlin 30-30. I took a deer with it in 1962.
Last Saturday I picked a 1.5# puffball, sliced it breded it, and fried it in butter. 😋
Quick question, how many acres of land do own? Been enjoying all of your videos keep them coming.
Love your videos. Where did you get the propane stove/heater you use in the mancave?
Hi, Have you ever met the Wipples? They both have UA-cam channels "Bushradical " and "Girl in the woods" they have land up in the UP and they have put sand point wells on there property, maybe you could too.
Band was would be brilliant for you you already ha e the quad budget yourself a lot arch or make one a lot better finish you an tow band was to log or old to band was I'm in UK but already making one myself two stub axels

May want to think about digging a well.
Ground is full of rocks. Also there is no road going to the property so can't get a truck in with proper equipment.
There’s always rock and you don’t need a truck with equipment to dig a well. I would say ask the people from the 1800s but they are all dead.
Ok so your not sure about a Band saw mill but what about a band saw mill that is portable as a chain saw mill but as efficient as a band saw mill? I am a welder designer for thirty years and I build band saw mills and have a little concept mill I want to build that basically you would screw a guide on the log and the log as with a chainsaw mill acts as the bed then you attach a small band saw head on the guide! you cut off your boards turning the log until it is a can't then you mill off your boards and with the last board that would have to be a two incher board but perhaps one could put it on a even surface and get a one inch board regardless! It is a little take into the bush concept mill i have been thinking about for sometime! It would be a perfect little mill. It would only be able to cut 12 foot logs total and anything down.
