Sound like a business opportunity creating something for children to do. What about rolling skating, bowling and video game arcade.

    • @AS-rw7rf

They may have video game arcade but I doubt bowling. It seems to me bowling is American thing because many countries don't even know about bowling. They of course have rolling skates because I have seen a video with Vick Mansa the American rapper and saw horse riding and rolling skates in the background. All in all life don't seem bad in Ghana. With all year round nice weather the beach will be my go to. Nice video.

I think westernizing Ghana too much will take the fun out of being in Ghana if that makes sense Americanizing something because that’s what America is all about but me personally when I go to go to Haiti, I enjoy nature and just seeing the people and seeing things. yes it’s good to come across ice cream, yummy right and You know certain things that we do have here in America because westernizing is gonna take the fun out of our kids, safety with kids usually see as fun like playing on the streets and being safe and everything else

We used to go to movies in the eighties by Japanese and Chinese films and sometimes Indian films in Odeon, Orion, Ahenfie, Princess etc. so it was Ghanaian thing back the days.

Yes, I'm not sure of today but the movies was really a Ghanaian thing back when I was growing up in the '70s and '80s. There was a huge movie theatre in Accra Central. Then there was REX Cinema, Regal Cinema in Osu, La Scala Cinema in Teshie which was always packed with long lines. We watched the Chinese and Indian movies there; and every now and then, a good Ghanaian movie like "Love Brewed In the African Pot", and "African Timber"

Ghanaians used to go to the movies a lot. In Accra, we had Opera, Orion, Oxford, Palladium, Globe, Plaza, etc., etc. Before the advent of smartphones and some difficult economic periods, there were movie theaters almost everywhere in Accra and all the other cities.

When I was growing up in Ghana in the 70s, there were cinema halls all over Ghana, even 12pm slots, we used to call; 'Twel' There were, to name a few: Orion, Rex, Revoli, Palladium . Kumasi, had also it's fair share of them. My siblings and I watched; The Spy Who loved Me, Bruce Lee film, ( African American Films) Walking Tall, , Cooley High School, Car Wash, Saturday Night Fever, Grease, Thunderball Rollerball, JAWS, so many Indian films, it was a treat, we ate pop corns while watching the films. The Rawlings Revolution, and regime which lasted 20yrs, and video rentals later killed off all these places. I am glad Silverbird is running. The prices are expensive, because, they have to buy these films from abroad.

Hi there! I just stumbled on your channel! I like that you said there aren’t as many local parks (free) here in Ghana like in the states… so true so you definitely have to get creative. Although we have tried out the Legon botanical gardens and our kids had a great time there. Felt similar to go to a park in the states, but you do have to pay, and they have a few more things than what you would find at a local park in the states. We’ve also enjoyed DNR recreation center! Are your kids loving Ghana? Is there anything they miss about the states? Enjoy your stay and enjoy all the amazing food and people! ♥️♥️♥️

All the many movie theaters back in the days were patronized by Ghanaians. There was 12:00 noon movies at Opera movie theater at Opera square. Almost every neighborhood had a movie theater. 6:30 pm on Saturdays and Sundays were family movie nights. Oh how we enjoyed them.
Ghanaians do patronize the movie theaters currently at the malls. But people are watching local low budget UA-cam movies, skits, and comedies for free on their phonies now so no need to go pay for expensive foreign movies that they cannot afford and need transportation to trek to the mall to watch.
Normal kids just play ampe, oware, chaskele, or pick up soccer at the government elementary/JHS dusty school parks near their neighborhood. They also use empty milk cans to build toy cars to play with as well as race with old car tyres. They do get creative because they can’t afford to pay for other forms of entertainment.

I wonder whether the local schools have suggestions for activities parents could do with their children. Good luck!
My head wraps fall often when I do the wrapping. When my daughter does it for me, there are no issues. I am determined to learn a style on which I could have success. Then I could build upon that one success.
By the way, I was admiring your head wrap while watching the video. I have not seen that particular style. In fact, I was staring to see if I could do it.

It’s sad that so much changed in Accra over the years because as a kid in Ghana during the 1970s there were tons of movie theaters (cinemas) for every income group. That way all segments of society could enjoy the movie theatre experience. The one our family went to was called Orion Cinema.
