  • Often times in dating relationships it’s easy to follow our feelings and ignore red flags. In the book of Judges, the story of Sampson is an example of what happens when we do what FEELS right instead of what IS right. Spoiler alert: it never ends well. In this message, we talk about the warning signs for when you should exit a relationship. __

    Reasons to exit:
    1. If they are not a believer
    2. The main reasons you are with them are vain: physical attributes, status, money
    3. If you are unhealthy emotionally/spiritually

Just wanted to jump down here and say..
i LOVE how you change the color of "The Porch" symbol to match the current sermon series or if its a one-time sermon. It makes your videos SO MUCH easier to navigate. Great job, love The Porch.

I wouldn’t go that route. I would tell her you’re focusing on yourself spiritually or something along those lines.

I realize I’m a year late but felt I should answer this one. Firstly, you wouldn’t say she isn’t good enough for you because that would be a judgement and since we are all humbly flawed yet still loved by God this means you are also not perfect (with love 🫶) Not good and not good enough are two different things, “not good enough” is subjective, not within our authority to claim and by passing that judgement, exalts yourself. It’s ok to have boundaries and standards that align with Gods instruction but we have to be careful with how we go about it. Is she not good enough for you? Be wary of where the root of that thought is seeded. Now, with “not good” we are provided instruction on what to be cautious of and guard our hearts from, key word cautious…because in the end it is not our authority to condemn anyone to that. However, (and here is my main message and point) you should not skirt around the truth, for a half truth is still a lie. You should be honest with her. The advice in the previous comment, although I believe was given in an innocent nature, only saves face for you to get out of an “unfavorable” situation in the easiest way possible, yet it serves her soul no purpose…just be honest. “I want to focus more on my faith, I want to live to the instructed standard and servitude that allows me to be worthy before God. In order to do that, I need to either be single or be with someone that is also committed to pursuing God and these characteristics.” Something along THOSE lines. Either way you tell it, it will probably still hurt. But only one was the full truth, and what you did with the full truth was maintain your integrity even if it was scary or uncomfortable which served God in the situation rather than what was easy, which is selfless. It was selfless because you provided the opportunity to inspire another person towards the house of God. Whether in that moment or years down the line, maybe when she sees her way of life is only yielding darkness and brokenness…she may recall your honesty and pursuit for righteousness. Best case scenario. Even if not, you were honest and not deceitful, therefore taking another step in living and being like the very type of person you’re looking for…someone Christ like. JP said something a couple months ago that was pretty eye opening. He said something along the lines of “where there is a fear, there is an idol”. So if you fear confrontation or uncomfortable situations…then dishonesty may become your idol. Hopefully you found your way through that situation! God bless 🙏
