Aside from the fast refresh rate and very extensive colour space coverage, which almost completely covers the Display-P3, the display of the ROG Strix G17 delivers average values. The low brightness and, at best, decent contrast aren't really appealing. However, the competition isn't much better. The wide 17-inch diagonal, extensive colour space, QHD resolution, and, of course, the 240-hertz refresh rate, on the other hand, completely demonstrate their advantages when gaming.
The AMD Ry zen 9 79 45HX with the current Zen4 architecture can give an impressive performance. Its 16 cores and 32 threads alone provide ample performance reserves, enabling maximum clock speeds of up to 5.4 gigahertz. There is also no shortage of cache, with 16 megabytes of L2 cache and, in particular, 64 megabytes of L3 cache ensuring fast load times. What this means in practice is demonstrated by our performance ranking across multiple CPU benchmarks. AMD's Zen4 chip comes out on top practically everywhere. Intel CPUs remain superior only in tasks that need only a single computer core.
Current games run nicely in native QHD resolution with the highest detail settings. If the number of pixels that must be computed is cut in half, as in Full-HD resolution, frame rates can be nearly doubled throughout. The end consequence is significant. The 240-hertz display highlights the high frame rates, while the detail loss from QHD to Full-HD is tolerable. However, at 60 frames per second, the high refresh rate provides advantages because the input delay is still greatly decreased.
This ensures that the display is always up to the task, even when running at fewer than 240 frames per second. ROG STRIX G17 got 13796 for average all threads, 13315 for 16 threads, and 1024 for single thread.

I had a laptop for 3 years and i played a lot of games like gow, jedi fallen order and many other games and my cpu was always on 91-96 degrees its no problem if it‘s under 100 degrees

The only one I’ve seen is a rip off for $1399 at Walmart. With a 4060. At least this one has a 4070 but again I can’t imagine how loud the fans would be. For that price you can get a great desktop instead.😊

It’s depends but the legion pro has better specs but the screen is capped at 165hz so if you play competitive the 240hz g17 would be a better option
And the g16 is ok but the 240hz probably is only going to be consistent on med/low settings
I'd say go with the ROG Strix G17 cause the 7945HX is better than those intel chips and it's a 17.3" laptop. Bigger display is better for gaming.

can this handle starfield?
No I played starfield on this laptop 30 hours into playing it, it overheated and died had to send it back for repair. It had fried the motherboard, 50 hours on eldin ring completely fine but star-field, 1440p 30 fps on high setting, mostly the games fault on optimization. Also a lot of the time it would be 15-30 fps on starfield, eldin ring it was easily at the 60 cap mark and at 1440p max settings.

If you where to do it all over again, what laptop would you go with?
Id say it was just the bad optimization on the game itself not the laptops fault just be careful about newer games since there not optimized for laptop gpu’s. Also it would be best to get a laptop cooler or a fan blowing cool air into the intake since the Ryzen in it runs pretty hot. The laptop itself is pretty good but a desk is better insurance for the long haul but you can’t carry around 40 pounds everywhere.
And if I did chose a different laptop I would go with a 4080 laptop same series but that’s super expensive and it would better to get a desktop for performance.

No, "budget gaming".. budget (general use) laptop would be something less than 700 dollars or so.. Gaming laptop category is completely different beast.. Mid-range being about 2K, higher end about 3-4k.. this can be found for about 1.5k if you search patiently.. soooooo.. yeah.. budget it is..

and if anybody is angry about the price, be patient, in about 2 months you can buy it for a quarter less probably.. in about 6 months even third of this price off..
