Lucky enough to see Amos with Maria Muldaur at Ronnie Scott's in London many years ago.
I still rate this one of the best-constructed solos of all time!

Amos garrett, one of the most underrated of all guitarists. Play this solo.

This is one of the sexiest songs ever recorded and Amos is so damn good (as are you Michelle!)

Oh, that was lovely! It was a real treat to actually see Amos play the song, after hearing it for nearly 40 years. It was even more of a treat to hear your interpretation, Michelle; Maria is a tough act to follow, but it's a brighter world because we have both hers and yours.

Heavenly. Always a treat to hear Michelle sing. Love her rendition of Midnight at the Oasis. I’ve been fortunate to see her perform in Japan, Bangkok and Bali (so far).

The best guitar solo of any pop tune along with My Old School. Never knew who did it until now!

Yep, I've always been in awe of Amos' solo work in his song. Harmonically surprising, never in a consistent diatonic key but always perfect. The solo was unfathomable for me when it was released. A complete mystery it was until I viewed a few "how to vids" on UA-cam last night and found this, and a few other vids, of Amos playing live.
In contradiction to many other commenters here, Amos didn't play the solo here as recorded in the studio version. My reading suggests the original solo was actually a mixture of slide and non-slide playing. Also, after listening to the original track I found several errors in all the "how to" vids. I spite of all that, after a session until 4:30 AM this morning, I can pretty much get it 100% now without a slide. But it must be said that I could NEVER have come up with it in the first place ... EVER! Amos's solo is one of the greatest in recording history long with "Little Wing" (the whole song), "Riki Don't Loose That Number" and "My Old School". Inspirational! :-)

Yeah - not every talented guitarist could make their instrument sing: Duane, yeah! Beck - sure! Stevie Ray and Jimi... of course! But Van Helen, Clapton, Page, as talented as they undoubtedly are, not so much.

I stumbled across this purely by accident, and it's a delight. I remember loving this when it was a hit in the mid-70s; it's always struck me as a miracle that a song this sweetly unique, with that amazing guitar solo and of course Maria Muldaur's opalescent vocals, managed to go all the way. I've never heard anybody cover it. It's a heck of a song to take on in this sort of context, and you do a great job. It made my Friday afternoon. Thanks!

We all struggle like heck, stay up all night looking at videos, and pat ourselves on the back for even coming up with an approximation of this guitar solo for which there is, and never has been an equal. And in an exercise of masked human frailty we come on here and applaud one another as if our efforts amounted to anything at all. But let's be completely honest for a minute. As guitarists, remember back to the first time you ever heard that solo? You sat there completely stunned didn't you? I did, and I still do. Like you, I am capable of playing the solo but also like you, I have yet to experience the feeling of something like this flowing freely from somewhere in me and out through my instrument. I still hold out hope that if even only once in my life something as unique and spellbinding as this moves through me. This is a masterpiece. I don't mean to belittle any of us and applaud our efforts, especially those of us who get up there night after night (or at least used to before the plague!) and bang it out hoping for that one moment of divine inspiration. I can just imagine Amos almost glowing as he played this piece of music! Honestly, there isn't even anything to compare this to. It is one of the inspirations of my life. Very special.

I had the extreme pleasure of hearing Amos play many times at the Bohemian Embassy in Toronto, on St. Nicholas Street, while I was at the Ontario College of Art and he was, I believe, still at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. The band Dirty Shames was very active in Toronto, those days! Am still in touch with Chick Roberts, but it was thinking about the upcoming solar eclipse that led me to look at Amos's bits on UA-cam today. The eclipse back in July 1963, I enjoyed from in the back yard of Amos's family home. Memories!
