    About:
Jason and Lorraine. In 2016 we sold most of our belongings and left the city in southern California to start a small homestead in the mountains of North Carolina. We left the city in search for a more minimal and intentional life. We became passionate about growing our own food and knowing what exactly is in our food after I (Jason) became diagnosed with cancer. Now 8 years in remission we as a family are on a journey to live our passions.
We document our life on UA-cam videos to inspire others to get out of their comfort zone and not be afraid of change. We started our own online general store where we have available the things we make and use in real life. Thank you for following us on this incredible life changing journey!

Don't take it personal. By quantifying the posts with dis/likes it does make it seem like another addition to popularity like subscriptions. But really it is for the channel owner. A dislike vote could be the style was not liked, the music was too loud, there was no CC option for hearing impaired, the person prefers DIY instructables from Jason more than walk and talks, etc. It is there for the content provider to make adjustments to content, or see what their audience likes. It doesn't mean they dislike the content provider or the people that like the person. Really UA-cam should hide the results of the dis/like button and only let the provider see it. Views are not a good gauge because many people have on auto play or click based on the title then do not finish the video.

That is like when I switched to LED bulbs from florescent bulbs. "And the Lord said, Let there be light!" I always like that bit and yes I know there is more to that.
Hug a chicken! LOL Henny Penny didn't want any part of that. Too bad the ducks are so skittish, I love holding them and softly stroking their feathers. SOFT! Good luck with the plants Ms. P!

I so enjoyed your happy video today! I need to order a mug.
Tell Penelope to be careful to not over water the racoon planter if it doesn't have a plug in the bottom for drainage. Might be best to just mist it heavily every few days. The other plant needs to be transplanted into a larger pot soon so it can take off and not get root bound. Remember the pot needs drainage and good peaty houseplant soil. It should be evenly moist and watered once a week.
Both plants will like bright, but indirect light. No direct sun or they'll fry!

I am so envious of your weather. Here in midwestern Ontario the ground is covered in snow and has been since the beginning of November. We can't even get to our garden. We grew 8 broccoli plants last summer and they gave us enough to last all winter. Leave the plants in the ground and they will keep producing - much smaller heads but oh so good. Every time we picked we would eat 1/3 fresh, freeze 1/3 and dehydrate 1/3. And yes it has lasted all winter.

You should try snacking broccoli. They get small ones you can eat raw while working or take a batch in. They grow year round here in S Calif...but best in winter. Leave some for seed and replant. Kale, curly kale, dinosaur kale, purple kale too.

Maybe you can try a stir fry with broccoli leaves (treat them like if they were collard greens) by sauteeing them in some butter/oil/lard with garlic, onions, cubed bacon/chicken/beef (optional) and once half-way wilted, add ⅛ to a ¼ cup chicken stock and cover for long enough until they wilt completely and serve as a side dish with any protein of your choice (beside the broccoli leaves or mixed into them) or put them on top of white rice (with the meat of your choice in it or beside the broccoli atop white rice or even brown rice). Tell me how did you like it if you get to try them. That's another way of using your broccoli plant, not just the flower.
Something else would be to add the stems of the broccoli, medium diced into your rice water once you add the rice and some chopped parsley for a green rice. Just some of the things I do with my broccoli plants here.
*God Bless You Guys in Jesus' Name!*

A little hint about house plants. . Many people tend to OVER water them. Thus the plants literally drown . I also want to over water.
So I mark on my calendar when to water . I water the plants no more than once a week. When I get the urge to water I check the calendar. Nope , it's not time yet ! I stick to the calendar. It's the only way I can keep from over watering the plants.
I also grow citrus here in northeastern Ohio . Yep , I grow them in large planters that are on plant bases that have wheels. In the living room for the winter in front of both east facing and west facing windows. When it gets warm enough they are wheeled outside onto my deck. Be careful ! They WILL get sunburned until they become accustomed to having sunlight. And yes , they will fruit. There are no bees inside of the house of course so I pollinate with a small artist's paintbrush. Which does work. So far this year I am growing some lemons and tangerines. Although it does take months for the fruits to mature. Lemons can have both fruit and blossoms at the same time. I keep the trees pruned so they will not get to be more than six or seven feet tall.
Once again , do not over water. Citrus thrives in the ground in places like Riverside , California which only gets eight to ten inches of rain per year ! I give my citrus about an inch of water once a month . Outside during the summer here I actually have to cover them so they do not get too much rainfall .
