I totally forgot to add that pepper spray can block electric beams as well as lasers. So if you ever need to get past an arc of electricity, just spray it
Wow, a Deus Ex scientist. IIRC part of this is due to the fact that they were learning how to put maps together. I think this means every laser should be triggered by everything, but they just weren't paying attention to that during development. Therefore, laser blocking is an exploit.
You missed out one in Vandenberg. After taking out all the bots, you gain access to the lower levels to get a key to enter the security room Gary Savage is in. In the lower levels is a laser area that releases spider bots.
NSF lasers triggering by everything. a little headcanon ive had about it. they're the cheapest off the shelf components, without a trip weight feature (had a alarm like this in my old place, and the curtains moving ever so slightly would set off the alarm, the more expensive one waited for more data and only trigger if it saw something larger than a small child moving in the area) can assume MJ12 having these fancier ones where they're set to ignore small objects (bugs, rats, insects and the like) to cut down on the number of false alarms that they have to respond to. whereas the NSF are both jumpy enough to respond to every alert (even if you use that as a distraction) and not well financed enough to afford the more elite security options.
I played Revision and I sadly only used ppr spray so I can only mostly talk about it. The good news is that it seems that almost, if not all lasers are blocked by spray, although maybe it's kinda op ngl. I can't be sure it's always 100% but I'm sure that smuggler's lasers are now ppr spray blockable(also Revision added like gorillion of lasers for smuggler to make sure you can't just jump over em 😂) Also the only times I triggered lasers by objects was in NSF warehouse and I think somewhere else, so potentially all lasers are now triggered by objects in revision while all items now block em
Sounds like for the most part, the lasers were a psychological thing. And they worked too! I didn’t do shit around lasers unless I could break them somehow!
There's a variety of explanations regarding game development for why the lasers are so inconsistent, but I like to think someone on the dev team just wanted to mess with the player.
Quality control please, hearing 2 voices overlap and seeing the playback interface of the video file is not nice. And more AI freaking out! Constant changing of voice is kind of disruptive, I really like Paul's voice, perfect for pacifistic briefings. NSF used advanced techniques because they were setting those lasers recently, likely right after takeover of those buildings, or in some close time to preparation, while other structures seem to be including rather old lasers with poor setup. Also NSF are more likely to use their limited resources accurately, while MJ12 setups are done by corrupt people who feel comfortable with all those weapons and equipment present, they could even defeat aliens with their presence in Paris. The Cathedral Gold storage laser seems to be discontinued or defective model, that's why it registers NPCs differently. So there could be company-based differences in lasers, not only installation skill differences, as well as intentional confusing tactics that involve creating a false security breach that will deceive the infiltrator to think that same type of interference won't trigger the laser, effectively tripping the victim of overconfidence.

What a shame
I totally thought there was a beam in a vent at unatco as well.
That AI voice makes it sometimes sound like JC's constipations are augmented.
1:28 This is why Walton got the newer version of the firmware
Walton brags about having the newest version of the firmware, and I'm like, "OK, punk. Let's see how good MJ12's quality assurance group is."
1:28 Maybe merging with Helios wasn't the best idea,,,
1:14 JC Denton has a stroke...another 50 billion dollar down the drain.
It's like a brain aneurism going off but in THE FUTURE!
Weird, right? RIGHT?! NAH, RIGHT?!
Sounds to me like the only thing that needs bypassing is JC's brain
Life is hard when you've got contamination and mutants in your brain.
I like to think that JC is just wigging out cuz meging with Helios fucked up his brain
What a shame… that was a good security system… what a rotten way to get bypassed
Marvelous!!! 🤣

Makes sense
I finally understand why people miss the old ai voice LMAO
I didn't know AI could suffer from panic attacks.
JC’s psychosis is augmented
About time someone did a list of lasers.
Warning: laser!
Warning: laser!
Warning: la... Wait, wrong game

Given how many years I've been playing Deus Ex, I never thought to mess around with the lasers like this! Great stuff, thanks!
How the AI randomly go from sounding like JC to the guy from Postal 2 lmao
Fun fact:
In PS2 version, laser's hit end sprite is missing, instead having default unreal pawn icon (that dinosaur/bird thingy)
the ai struggling is awesome
the amount of differences is fascinating
I love you bacon
this is so awesome!!! 8 playthroughs and never knew any of this stuff!! love the throwing knives blocking the lasers
Good job at investigating such an important issue as proper laser setting.
I'm not going to stand here and listen to you badmouth the greatest security system that Hong Kong has ever known.
Haha!

Ah, here it is! Good to have you back, Bacon!
Do Revision or GMDX make the lasers consistent? And if so what are the rules?
Hmm... Not sure actually

@@danielsurvivor1372 that's really interesting. Probably can develop a cheese strat with that knowledge
Bro I was drinking water at 1:20 and almost died laughing.
I came here for Deus Ex trivia, I stayed there for Denton having an aneurysm
gamer moment talking about various lasers and their attributes in the whole game
Can you spray the fire extinguisher to disable lasers or is the fire extinguisher just a non functional prop?
It works but the funny thing with fire extinguisher is that JC can walk into his own spray and he'll start screaming
i like how inconsistent everything is. it goes against common game design wisdom in a way that makes it feel more real.
Yeah it really does

I'm pretty sure there was a laser in MJ12 prison armory wing right? Right!?!
Wonderful video, properly edited with good footage, and a good amount of fun
1:15 so walton was right! JCs firmware was outdated!
0:18 I tried that yesterday in DX GOTY to see whether Smuggler survives the raid thanks to the bot. The bot did not attack me, why did it attack you?
@@DietmarEugen the bot becomes friendly after the first time you talk to smuggler
