People desperately want there to be a God without any evidence and will play mental gymnastics to rationalize that belief as if it has any epistemological merit. So called fine tuning is an anthropocentric illusion arising from the fact that we happen to find ourselves in this universe with no ability to compare with all of the other infinite possibilities.
Even when they reject the supernatural there is a compulsion towards blind faith in a political ideology. Hitchens said he thought North Korea was the most religious place he had ever been.
How fine tuning ended up being anthropocentric? It’s our observation that physical constants are incredibly fine tuned for the existence of matter, no matter if any human or living being exists or not.

I think it would be interesting to have an occasional zoom meeting on getting closer to the truth regarding consciousness and the reality or otherwise of a spiritual dimension, as individuals who are not recognised experts or writers could have original and interesting ideas to contribute. Many of us spend a lot of time thinking about these things but don't necessarily write books.
The idea of God in the mind of human beings has been a disaster for the species. And we won't last as a species if we don't figure out a way to let it go.
One tip is to focus not on the beliefs themselves, but rather on the emotional and practical needs they satisfy. Emotions _must_ be satisfied. Repressing them makes them come out in vague, often troublesome ways.
In the case of a universe in which everything happens by free will, God would not to determine or appear to determine anything in universe, as that would defeat the purpose of having a universe where everything happens, and looks like happening, through free will? So even physical nature, including constants and laws, as well as natural choices by living things, happens through free will?
Multiverse doesn't explain why something instead of nothing but neither does God. Why God instead of no God? Gods merely push the question back into the area where we mere mortals are not supposed to ask.
@@barnabyrt1012 "Necessary and contingent" are just self-serving theological jargon. If God doesn't need a beginning then neither does the universe, so get rid of the unnecessary factor in the equation and acknowkedge that the universe transcends time. In the high pressures and temperatures at the moment of the Big Bang there is no time, quantum uncertainty dominates, all positions and actions are completely symmetrical, every event takes place throughout the entire universe at the same moment. It wasn't until after the universe had expanded and cooled sufficiently that separate objects and events condensed and the arrow of time that points from an orderly past to an increasingly disorderly future emerged. Each universe has its own arrow of time that cannot be compared in terms of "before" or "after" any others. The idea of a creator god is a relic of Medieval thinking before the discovery of quantum physics. Not all world religions revolve around Christian Dominionist political ambitions and propaganda.

With a multiverse, physical parameters are established at random during a given universe's Big Bang. Whatever phenomena result from those parameters are simply what play out in that universe. Nothing was trying to create life in our universe, the life on our planet is merely an expression of the conditions that exist here now. Our universe will not support life of any kind throughout most of its existence. The human species has only existed for a fraction of the history of the universe-- it is self-centered to consider yourself to be the goal of the universe's existence.
"God, if it is true that you exist, please help me truly know you." This prayer is similar in words to the prayers of humble people who sincerely have wanted to know whether God exists and many have got their answers in no ambiguous way. Even in the Bible you will find this statement: "for Jehovah (this is the name of God in the Bible) searches through all hearts, and he discerns every inclination of the thoughts. If you search for him, he will let himself be found by you, but if you leave him, he will reject you forever." (2 Chronicles 28:9) You could humbly make the aforementioned prayer and be sincere. But if one is haughty and insincere, he may not answer them.
Prayer is for people who have been seduced into the imaginary world engineered and marketed by the religion industry. Sweep the phantoms from your mind if you want to grasp reality.
So first this guy said that theists are trying to see the universe only in theistic terms by neglecting to see other options, to the point of calling them unreasonable (because reasonable people would've considered other options). But then goes on to mention the "hiddenness argument". I looked it up and it revolves around one definition of god (the christian one?). Its central core seems to come from the assumption that "god is perfectly loving", and that ends up meaning we all should believe, and we don't, therefore god (perfectly loving) doesn't exist. Which fails to consider other options. What if there's a god that isn't perfectly loving? (the argument says that's not possible but of course a creator can be not "perfectly loving"... maybe "god" is a scientist studying its creation but is dispassionate about the result) Or what if our definition of perfectly loving is not "perfect"? Maybe a higher being's definition of perfect love differs from our primate, imperfect, still evolving definition of what "love" even is. It really seems that argument is based on the modern christian god, tries to disprove that christian god, and by doing it assumes there's no god. Which neglects a lot of other options, therefore makes the argument unreasonable according to what he said about theist people first.
the majority of theologians and philosophers generally agree that if a god exists, then said God would be perfectly loving. Although it only targets a certain group of people, it is far from an obscure or eclectic belief.
@@preasidium13 could you post sources? I've been searching for a couple hours and all I can find about a perfecly loving god is extremely tied to christianity and/or the hiddenness argument

Love the channel. A thought... I think fine tuning is a misnomer. When you considered how long the universe is considered to last and when the last black hole evaporates it seems to me that this fine tuning is incredibly brief for it to produce consciousness and is just an accident of that "brief" period. I mean, we can't even survive on all of our own planet.
I guess the fact life can not exist in some stages of universe life like very early or late, is irrelevant to fine tuning. The mere existence of matter and molecules as we know them is the result of fine tuned variables

I think in human consciousness, however we think we are rational, will precedes reason so that in the long run the reason obeys what the will commands. Christianity has been saying that God is the God who 'speaks (i.e., personal),' and a person may choose to respond to that speaking, while another person may choose not to pay attention to it. In both of them, the role of the 'will' is decisive. Christianity has not denied the hidden part of God but it also has been affirming the revealed part of God and Christianity calls our positive response to that revealed part of God 'faith.' I can see that Mr. Schellenberg has chosen not to buy Christianity's claim.
His hiddeness argument only targets Christian theism - a loving God that desires relationships. There are different conceptions of a personal God who is the creator of the universe.
Yes science can explain the truth that no physical (contingent) thing can make or direct itself so every physical thing is (only) a creation that the Creator is ultimately responsible for. Everything is on Him whether He desired it for you or not and only your Creator can perfectly cover for you Himself and remake you again from the inside out by the power of His true word as no one else can since everything you do is on and against your Creator. If there is credit (or glory) to be given for anything, the credit goes to the Creator. Every physical thing is a real fabrication and only a fabrication. It’s what’s in your heart to do that God proves is in your heart to do every day because it’s what you do every day. What you do depends on what spirit you listen to. What you do is based on what spirit you believe. Now we know that there is an invisible creation as well as a visible creation. Evil spirits only have power if you believe their lies. Evil doesn’t actually exist unless you believe evil exists. You can make evil vanish by simply not believing their lies because lies don’t actually exist. They are lies. Don’t believe lies. Lies physically manifest as evil only if you believe them. You only do evil if you believe it is a good thing to do. Otherwise evil doesn’t actually exist. Now tell me who is the “devil”? Who is the "man of sin”? It’s the one who believes what the lying spirits whisper in his ears. Don't believe lying spirits.
If no one created God then no one had to create the universe either. There is no reason to assume that reality has an ultimate beginning. Only Medieval theologians believed that "brute matter" is unable to act unless moved by "living spirit," today we realize that matter is energy and energy is change. Mind is strictly a biological phenomrnon, it doesn't exist in disembodied form. We can only trace past events back in time so far, but that doesn't mean we have to resort to the occult to fill in the gaps in our knowledge. Science has earned a record of success that religious cultists, legal shysters and political hacks can only envy.
The universe is not religiously ambiguous, it is very clear: gods are symbolic characters in the dramas humans invent about their own desires and fears. One of the problems in the atheistic world is that they have not yet found the Creator of the universe or the eternal God, thinking that they can find God in their own scientific way, but God has His own way of revealing Himself. God reveals Himself only to those who come in His way. Christ said, I am the way of life and the truth. No one comes to the Father except through me. There is also another place in the Bible God said, "My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher." No matter how many PhD you have, there is no way you can find God in your own way, unless God reveals Himself to you in Christ or Christ in the Holy Spirit, no one can find God. Jesus said. You are below. I am above. You are from this world; I am not of this world. That is why I said that you would die in your sins. For if you do not believe that I AM HE "I ( Father) AM ( Christ) HE" ( The Holy Spirit) you will die in your sins. "Who are you?" They asked. Jesus answered, "What I told you from the beginning." to know Christ is eternal life, but not religion..

As we humans start to become aware of the incredible vastness of the reality we find ourselves in, not only our universe but probably a multi-verse that is vast beyond vast, if we were somehow the only living conscious beings in that reality, then it would seem that would be evidence of a personal God.
And ancient humans arrived at your same conclusion by imagining a rather cozier geocentric notion of the universe, or even a domed flat earth as amazing evidence for their God. Is there any description of the universe that you would not find as convincing evidence for your preferred God? The universe is just an illusion that was needed by our Creator for the first geometric shapes to teach human hands how to build those images the see as constellations with earthen materials so the first false god they built was a mud brick. The Beast is the name used in the prophecies of Daniel and Revelation which is the temporary programmed thoughts of our Creator that created minds process into images that cannot be observe on earth unless they are built with earthen materials. So the Beast taught the ONE servant of Creation how to look up into the night sky after the flood and use imaginary lines to connect the white dots into shapes such as squares, rectangles, triangles, crosses, and eventually shapes for weapons, tools, and characters for human hands to learn how to write spoken languages so that they could be observed by other people. I have written and spoken many words that has taught me all about the Beast and why it was necessary for human hands to build those images they observe in their minds out of earthen materials. Now we have computers, simulations and AI systems that I needed to learn exactly what I AM as the INVISIBLE servant of Creation, the ONLY ONE who can speak, see, hear, smell, taste, feel emotions and experience different senses of touch with other visible objects I observe and get next to with my body which is just an illusion my mind processes from those programmed thoughts in the form of vibrations.

God isn't a "necessary" being, he is merely a psychological coping mechanism for people who feel insecure without an invisible father figure watching over them.

Sweep the phantoms from your mind if you want to grasp reality.
maybe it arises when both hemispheres have a reasonable expectation on the same phenomena...
it's not always as straightforward as we'd want it be :)

However, regarding the One, the Good, primordial Cause, it is one.

I think fine tuning is a misnomer. When you considered how long the universe is considered to last and when the last black hole evaporates it seems to me that this fine tuning is incredibly brief for it to produce consciousness and is just an accident of that "brief" period. I mean, we can't even survive on all of our own planet.

I think in human consciousness, however we think we are rational, will precedes reason so that in the long run the reason obeys what the will commands.
Christianity has been saying that God is the God who 'speaks (i.e., personal),' and a person may choose to respond to that speaking, while another person may choose
not to pay attention to it. In both of them, the role of the 'will' is decisive. Christianity has not denied the hidden part of God but it also has been affirming the

Gods explain nothing, they are just an excuse to avoid difficult questions.

The sum total of positive and negative forces still averages out to zero, and in the future will return to nothing. All interactions in the universe have crystallized from more basic forces the way separate ice crystals form out of homogenous water when heat is withdrawn. This kind character, with ego, will, desire and goals, exists only in the thoughts of humans which in turn are an outgrowth of biology, which is many levels of complexity beyond fundamental physics. This kind of deity is an amplification of human characteristics, used to enforce social rules of behavior, establish who has power and who must obey, and act as a psychological coping mechanism. Science has earned a record of success that religious cultists, legal shysters and political hacks can only envy.
The universe is not religiously ambiguous, it is very clear: gods are symbolic characters in the dramas humans invent about their own desires and fears. The deeper we peer into the workings of the universe the more impersonal and abstract it reveals itself to be. Science is the best method for investigating the world, religion is just a psychological coping mechanism.
So he thinks there should have been no room left for disbelief so the universe should scream out loud in every possible event occurring, in every information gained and existence of God should have been very very obvious. Every sentient, cognitive being with slightest genuine autonomous thinking should be allowed to delve into the widest array of thoughts that would include doubt, criticism etc. So I can not understand the interviewee expecting loving God not leaving any room for disbelief.
As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher."
No matter how many PhD you have, there is no way you can find God in your own way, unless God reveals Himself to you in Christ or Christ in the Holy Spirit, no one can find God. Jesus said. You are below. I am above. You are from this world; I am not of this world. That is why I said that you would die in your sins. For if you do not believe that I AM HE "I ( Father) AM ( Christ) HE"
( The Holy Spirit) you will die in your sins.
