Gatekeeping Albums in the VC

- These are albums you MUST own on vinyl to be even considered to be a VC member. Anyone else will be shunned, and rightfully so. These albums also would have been the albums that your record store employee would have judged you on as well.
Loved this. Very entertaining, so many of these tropes pass through our collecting mind when we see other people's collections and look at our own.

I must be one of the longest-standing non-member members as I only have a handful of these...mostly on CD. 🙃Been carrying a torch for "The Lamb" though since high school so there's that at least....Glad seeing you again, and looking forward to the next one as always. -Carm
The guitar playing by Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner elevated Rock and Roll Animal to platinum status. I am not a big fan of studio released live albums. But that one I really enjoyed. But I will take Transformer, Coney Island Baby and New York over it anytime. Better still. Any studio release from the VU. Cool shout out to Ottavio with the Herbie album. Well done Kris~

Oh yeah - the joking not joking in this is strong! We were vacationing in Orlando when it hit - which wasn't much of a problem since Central Florida is built for that - so we travelled behind it. At the farm, three threes down on fences, two were an immediate concern because we couldn't turn out horses, plus another crashed on my tractor shed, trapping the tractor. Luckily we have people who can help us with that and they would cut while I would use the tractor to push the debris - but yellowjackets were displaced and causing an issue (and our help have deadly reactions to stings) - we ended up getting it sorted, but one is left for us to deal with this winter - some roof peeled off one of the barns, but I repaired that as well. Power out for a few days as well, but we had enough water for the horses (though we have a generator to run the well, regardless). Compared to the Western half of the state, we got off extremely easy.
I stopped paying attention to the "VC" channels a decade ago cause I got sick of seeing every one of those 40 or so albums over and over again, most of which I've owned since the 80's/90's. Good to see ya!
You made the right decision! Hell, someone even has their channel name from one of these selections :P

Have Pet Sounds but not a fan. Had both Big Star albums but didn't like 'em, sold 'em. Etc., etc., etc., this video is brilliantly funny., Good to see you Kris!

I am intrigued by the album with the Eggleston photo on the cover. Never seen it before. I own a few of these on CD and download (back when we bought downloads instead of just streaming them), but I think the only one I currently own on vinyl is Court and Spark. I can tell you had a lot of fun with this video.
Awesome - that was the idea! If the one you are talking about is Big Star/Radio City - it is edgier than the first album and is just a wonderful power pop album - it has higher highs on it than the first one, but a few I find to be only ok which is why the first album is probably slightly better, but not my much - Back of a Car and September Gurls are outstanding tracks.
I am sooooo screwed, I am missing a lot of these albums. In my old collection I had them but start over a lot of them I just didn’t care. Yes you do need Fear of Music and every Velvet album. White Light is the best album, bring on Sister Ray No Joni Mitchell, can’t do it. Too funny Kris. Great to see you. Nice crotch

Well, you are absolutely right - but I actually don't have that on vinyl - which is why I will be resigning by the end of the month. Good call!
I guess I have a lot of shopping to do…I prioritized getting all the Bent Fabric records with animals on them rather than the required listening list😔 Does it count if we have had the essential record and sold it?
It does not count. Sorry, we will be revoking the card and the tattoo. Both of you will need to turn yourselves in to the nearest hipster record store and look for the guy with the soul patch.

Ah - for the VC, I think those are option. For being a vinyl collector snob and not a video maker, absolutely. I, obviously, have Heino and Klaatu. I do own 2112, but I am not a Rush fan. Some albums are ALMOST a requirement (I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight) - but not gatekeeping enough to cause an exclusion.
