Honestly a word I would use to describe this game after watching up to 8:48 of this and watching Majuular’s video of these games (Highly recommend his stuff), is “demystified.”
This whole game feels like someone is constantly shooting party poppers in your face, which is funny at first, then it’s annoying, then it goes back to weirdly being funny again. Only for it to end you’re covered in streamers and smoke, wondering why all this happened in the first place, but there’s also not much to say other than “Well, that was wacky.”
This game hands you so much healing potions that the original version didn't have. AND the top of the screen isn't a brick wall that stops your jumps making you plummet. Dear god this game is the original with semi-intelligent design.
Now how to we beat Ganon?

1:30 I feel like I have to mention that the Zelda CDI games had a union acting contract and BOTW didn't. I'm not even sure if AoC and TotK had one either.
This was a great time. The original game is such a total shit-show, so seeing a fanbase come together and straight up improve/finish it like this is pretty special.
Also, Thorn loudly and proudly yelling "I totally called it with TheCompletionist, by the way" was equally very special. 🤣

I kind of love the concepts involved with this game and Wand of Gamelon where there's an active plan in place for Ganon's reign of terror compared to him just making huge fuckoff armies to bulldoze everything.
Very few of his generals in both these games JUST kill people. They tend to actively mutate them into more minions or enslave them. This Ganon is weirdly more longterm-planning than the usual one.
That Bazaar room with the giant weird pig mural is legitimately wonderful art, and I'd hang it on my wall if I could. The art team on this was trying, goddamnit.
I been struggling to figure out what that bizarre room was, and I THINK it's based on a Finnish pinball game called "Payazzo" or Pajatso, which became popular across Eastern Europe throughout the 20th century, the name of which is derived from the Italian name for a clown called "Pagliaccio", which is probably why the Russian animators made this area's boss a piggy clown.
Bit of a theorycraft I know but the best I can reason from how difficult it is to google anything nowadays, but I also legitimately love the pig mural pachinko room visually.
This was the video game development equivalent of having a basic idea of what you want, and then falling down the stairs trying to execute it. It's easy to see what they were going for; something akin to LoZII. Yet they cut every corner they possibly could to get it to market faster; especially playtesting and tweaking for fairness and difficulty.
What's sad is, the more you look at it, the more you can tell what got made first, and what got crunched in at the end. The actual in-game graphics aren't terrible. The backgrounds are gorgeous, the characters are passable; everything's readily identifiable and there's not much obviously-reused spritework. Gameplay was clearly a rush job, but it doesn't crash and it's beatable with enough retries. The cutscene animation was clearly just quickly sketched and colored by fill-in tool by people who can draw characters but didn't really understand animation well, and the voicework is phoned in and exaggerated, done by people who didn't understand voice acting.
I will give it credit - it's better than I was led to believe. That said, that doesn't necessarily make it good. It's fascinating, in the same way a trainwreck is fascinating. That said, this remaster is absolutely brilliant, and i am so glad it exists.

i wis there was a fighting game mode to play harkinian. playable king harkinian was the best feature in this.
