As for the issues with punctured lithium battery cells exploding, you could look at the ammunition storage units in tanks, like the M1 Abrams, which use blowout panels in case the armor is penetrated to redirect ammunition cook off and keep fire away from the crew. A system of these blowout panels could redirect the fire from these cells away from the doors and passengers, allowing them to escape without further injury.

What about Syria? Not to mention the gas box is much easier and cheaper to build. There is a reason they use the gas boxes over the completely un-practical battery boxes just because those ones "looks cool" even though they honestly looks like dogshit...

I wonder how much in Fuel your HumVee’s cost?
In time having a cybertruck would be a lot cheaper to operate than a HumVee, and less parts that could break, but you probably don’t believe that right? Cause all electric cars are pieces of shit.

First, the more "protection" means the heavier it gets, which hits the weak spot of electric vehicles - long range autonomy. Keep in mind, using it in war means not only on asphalt, so using it up and down in woods, over rocks etc depletes battery life even faster. Second, using it in cold conditions makes it battery range lower, using it in cloudy sky, night time or "not in the open" makes the solar charging useless. Not saying a military look doesn't look cool though :)

Fascinating video. Not only do we need a low maintenance tactical sci-tech civilian truck to last a massive one million miles, Cybertruck, but also an independent solar power charging station at home ready to roll anytime should an oil and power grid crisis occur at some point in the future, but would plug in the standard fossil fuel generated power grid at work and during a long road trip. I hope this option becomes possible in 2 to 4 years from now.

    • @sw3604
      @sw3604 9 місяців тому

New tech that they're building factories for nearly triple the range on EVs. Other new tech they're setting up to mass produce allows EVs to charge in 10 mins. Both technologies are expected to be affordable to the public in the next 8 years or so.
They already exist and are being intigrated into some luxury 2025 and 2026 models last I heard.
The range of a top line cybertruck would be 1300 + miles with the new batteries.
EVs are significantly more affected by extreme temperatures and load size, and reliance on electricity being available in warzones is problematic, though solveable with portable wind/solar/gas generators. There are pros and cons to it.

One solution would be a small on board generator fueled by diesel , gas or propane that could recharge the battery when the vehicle is at rest or even serve as a range extender while under way.

I'm 48yrs old now, d'you know how long ago I thought about putting weapons like explosives on remotely controlled aircraft, around 28-30yrs ago, and with the advent of smaller or what I call micro jet engines, for remote control scale models, my imagination went crazy, all that was needed was a leap in technology, computer processing power and programming, also autonomous systems for non line of sight maneuvers, ams now it's finally a reality.
It's always made me wonder what's taken the military so long to accept such technology from leading military equipment manufacturers/companies.

The true problem would be the low energy density of batteries compared to liquid fuel and battety logistic. Civil vehicles can compensate lowering their weight, but slap any type of armor/heavy equipment on a cybertruck and its range will shorten drastically. It gets even worse with towing, which is a thing the militery does a lot, sure electric motors have epic instant torque but there is no way around the amount of energy required to move mass, if you have 200 kw/h in your battery you'll travel less than a jeep with its >600 kw/h of fuel.
Short range is a big problem for a recon vehicle. If battery powered vehicles can't be the back bone of the operation, than you'll need fuel logistic anyway and a very good reason to add battery logistic on top of that.
The most reasonable use for electric in the military is police work and military occupation of cities

A company in Huntsville Alabama called DRS has already done a prototype hybrid electric HMMWV some years ago. I'm not sure why it wasn't picked up as a viable option but I'm sure it had something to do with over-all cost. I'm on the fence between super capacitors or some new battery chemistry being the next biggest leap towards electric military vehicles. The added benefit of the quick interchangeability of super capacitors show much promise. I have also heard that Zero Motorcycles has been working with the US Army SF to make silent military dirt bikes more viable missions. I'll have to search your channel to see if you have anything on Zero yet. Great video!

That battery swap program changes a Tesla battery in 90 seconds, and their is a video of it that has been posted for a couple of years here somewhere. They have an empty Audi filling up while they change two car batteries so half the time it takes to fill a gas tank. Plus you never need to worry about your battery with the exchange program, ever.

With its ridiculously long wheelbase and minimal ground clearance, it will be fun to see it get stuck practically on any rough terrain. Although it does look pretty cool as a military vehicle and the boot size will be a super plus, the long-wheelbase and ground clearance is this vehicle doom. Dont get me wrong, it works fine on the roads.
