I was at Home Depot and bought a cool cactus that I thought had a bloom on it. I got home and saw glue on the plant and realized the bloom was glued on! Then the tag said “everlasting faux bloom.” And some of the other plants there were straight up spray painted! Why can’t people just appreciate the natural beauty of plants!?

My go to for houseplant pots is to hit up a local thrift store and buy up whatever brass decorative pots they have around. Brass is pretty soft and its easy to drill drainage holes in it. I also find it looks really nice with the green of the houseplants.

I find spring is the best time to shop for pots and planters at Marshalls, TJMaxx and Ross. This time of year, the stores are stocking up for the holiday season.
During the rest of the year, I will shop at IKEA and thrift stores.

You can make your own hypertufa pots and quikrete pots. Please do a video on how to make these inexpensive pots that you can customize. Amazon has some cool concrete molds you can use to create various geometric pots.

I like the plain terra cotta pots from Home Depot for consistency, however, I am a sucker for your palms pot! I have a couple of large ones in that shape and I also love the olive jar shapes. Large pots! With iron stands. I like the way terra cotta and clay ages, even if painted. I also keep all of my plants on stands, because the large black beetles climb terra cotta to lay eggs and their children are grubs. Grubs chew right through roots. It's a hobby for me to find the pots and stands I like. And by the way, I am in Arizona, so terra cotta works...

Thrift stores, for sure. Just wash them well before planting. My favorite garden stores usually have a clearance shelf with some good deals on pots.

I just went to Dollarama this week. I think it's unique to Canada, and getting expensive, but I got 4 big plastic pots, 8-12" in diameter, $4-5 each, for the small amount of space that I have, and I'm quite happy with them. They're getting peas, carrots, beans, and hopefully cantaloupe.
And plastic plants do have their place. My brother gave my grandma fake flowers one year because she's allergic to the real thing, they still live on her dining room table. They are also zero maintenance.

For little ones - I use two tin cans together. The one on the bottom is for the water. The one on the top is for the plant and medium and I hammer nail holes through it for cotton wicks, water level indicator stalk and watering. Glue a tube for watering through, above one of the holes, glue the tube for the water level indicator above another. Then I crochet a pot shaped cover to hide them both inside. It's great for baby plants. The larger tins (usually with mushrooms or potatoes in) are probably better than the baked bean tins.
I am yet to find out whether they will, in time, start to rust but I like the straight up and down of them... Get more on a shelf! And you can make them different heights if you're good with hacksaw and tinsnips (and if you're careful with your fingers).
So if you're a bit 'crafty' - don't be getting rid of those empty tins!

Hit or miss, but thrift stores are petty good for pots/price. Also, think ahead and Big Lots at the end of the season are great for 50%-70% off.

I think in general, most stores consider pots as seasonal...I don’t, but whatever. You will find most of them when early spring hits (Ross, Marshall’s, or TJ Maxx tend to be the cheapest). I just tend to “stock up” then even if I have no plant to put in the pot. If I don’t end up using it, a plant in a pot always makes a good gift :)

I've had a similar problem. I decided to root my spider plant shoots. Getting enough pots at this time of year. Tired my nursery, Gardeners Supply, and the company that makes the pots. Everyone is out. I did locate another type, but they're bigger than I like.

Plant verigated creeping fig around the base of your palm tree. Will hold more humidity for the palm I love multi planting my pots. No bare soil.

If you go to Rite Aid store at the end of the spring season, early summer, they reduce the price of pots and other garden supplies by 50%.
I got some nice pots there at a great price.

I picked up a couple of pots at my local Ace Hardware in early October.
Best part, it was Bill the Owner of that particular Ace that helped me find what I needed.

Before Home Goods the chain was "Garden Ridge" and I could walk in and get a flower pot or cache pot anytime of the year. I needed some pots in September and Home Goods had liquidated most of that merchandise and was already setting up Christmas. I did find a couple things on clearance but was over all disappointed. I am just living with nursery pots and terra cotta until spring now. Maybe I will check out Marshalls. Thanks for the shopping trip!

I would love to see you repurpose other household items for plant pots! Old vases, bowls, mugs
