  • All my local friends from Türkiye told me that I have to visit Izmir city - the most liberal city in the country. I was very interested to see what it looks like, so I decided to visit it and neighboring towns that look like ancient Greece. And only one Ephesus was already worth a visit! However, I didn't like a lot of things... And I told about everything in this video 🤗
    Time codes:
00:00 - How to get to Izmir
00:53 - My expectations of the city
01:17 - My first impressions during the walk
03:22 - We were shocked by the taxi driver!
04:32 - Ruins that are not worth visiting
05:12 - Ancient Greek city of Ephesus
    09:36 - Dinner during Ramadan
10:41 - Cesme. A small town near the coast
11:50 - The secret of turkish tea
12:17 - We liked Alachati town more!
    14:23 - Crazy homecoming
15:07 - My honest impressions of Izmir

It’s so sad that I didn’t like Izmir city, to be honest. I really tried to make a positive video from there, but on the other hand I wanted to be real and share honestly what I liked and didn’t like.
Therefore, if you’re from Izmir, please let me know about places of the city which are worth visiting!!!!
And as always, I’d be happy see your feedback in the comments ❤️

There's a running joke about Sam Chui in the travel vlogging spheres about how he likes everything because he gets comp'd. It's okay to be negative sometimes. You don't have to be positive 100% of the time. We all have different experiences and we all should embrace that. :)

It’s good to see with Natasha! You know, that’s the thing about traveling. Sometime places you want to go disappoint you, sometimes places you don’t expect to be good really surprise you. That happens a lot when criss-crossing the USA. Some cities live up to their reputation, like New York, Boston, Chicago, or San Diego. Some disappoint like San Francisco, Los Angeles, New Orleans, or Denver. However, some are hidden jewels like Kansas City Mo., Raleigh NC, Savanna GA, or Pittsburgh PA. It’s all subjective, really, and other factors impact the experience, who you are with, how much time you have, the weather, and what parts of a city you get to visit. Yet, the adventure and experience are worth it. Love your posts!

It's nice to see you visiting places on recommendations from others.
Also it's actually very refreshing to hear your honest opinion without thrashing the place.
Indeed it may be the "wrong" season and you just missed some of the better places.
Then again, not every city/area is for everybody.
Very polite of you to ask for the advice of others if there is something else you should know about Izmir.
But at least there where dogs for you and cats for Natasha

Hello! I am from Northern Turkey(Black Sea).I went to Izmir while studying at university. Many people working in the service sector in Izmir are not Turkish. Do not get me wrong. We are definitely not racist.Only recently immigration from russia, syria and iran has changed the demographics of our country. When the high inflation was added to this, the reaction of the people naturally increased. For example, the bus drivers we took in my short Izmir time were Kurdish.Even in Turkey's youtube trends, the influence of immigrants can be seen.Let's hope everything goes well.Stay well..

Hello Dasha, It is pretty refreshing for me to hear you tell it like it is. No glossing over even the things that are not so nice sometimes about the world we live in. I hope Natasha is okay. She does not look happy. I followed her for a long time. I hope someday she finds happiness for herself, inside of herself. You two have such different personalities. I travelled a lot when I was younger. I wish there would have been a "youtube" then. Looking forward to seeing you again soon.

I am planning to explore into Bulgaria at some time not too far away. If you are able to visit into it from close by Turkey I will be very interested in your thoughts. Lots of extremely ancient building remains there and a very rich old European culture to back that atmosphere up. Sofia, Plovdiv (an absolute must visit place), Veliko Tarnovo further north, Varna or similar resort cities on the Black Sea, then some great ski lodge towns in the high mountains bordering Greece. Very diverse geography and heaps of ancient atmosphere.

My wife and I visited Turkey several years ago. We enjoyed a guided tour of Ephesus with a local historian. The so called library, which is a magnificent ancient building, was in fact the local brothel, but men would tell their parents, or wife, that they were visiting the library! 🤣📚💃📖🫢

    • @solconcordia4315
      @solconcordia4315 Рік тому +1

I was wondering why a library got such ornate and exquisite façade which had surely cost a fortune and much labor to build. I thought that Ephesians had probably revered learning "Aha" a lot.
It's not just in Las Vegas (a few 911 attackers went there to have fun before breaching the core of Imperium of Novo-Romano Empire shortly afterwards) that "Build it and they will come." 😂
People are different and yet are much the same. There's a *fake* Brooklyn Bridge outside of New York New York casino in Las Vegas which I had walked across but it was rather silly of me that I had *never* walked across the *real* one, the [original, first suspended-with-suspension-cables] Brooklyn Bridge in New York.
Ephesus was the site which had hosted the beginning of the end of the ancient Roman Empire and the classical Greco-Roman cultural world.

About being unsafe and about those infamous taxis I do %100 agree as any local Turkish women/men/anyone would. Movement of women and feminism in turkey is strong for a reason. I see that the map u guys used must have mis-guided you because you managed to enter some back neighborhoods which many local wouldn't enter at all lol. However, the way you approach to some things sounds a little bit simple. It is like, as if I visited St. Petersburg and after i see the "Winter palace" i said as "Bruh, what an ugly building!" without knowing what happened in front of that palace before and its importance in the history of Russia/Soviet Union.
Turkey is not European, nor western; however we are no alike the other eastern countries either. No other mostly-muslim country has sharp contrasts, contradictions or differences like we do. Pure uniqueness. I don't know what is your definition by the word "liberal", if you mean some new generation "woke" thing then I'm sure any random Eastern European country would also be a disappointment as well. What makes Izmir modern is that its locals widely considered to be as very open minded. The city is also considered as the hometown of the new modern and westernized mentality of the new Turkish Republic: A republic which is in trouble these days. It is also the very place which the resistance against imperialist invasion of Anatolia kinda started (When a citizen put the "first bullet" to the invader British backed-greek army soldiers during the invasion of Izmir in 1918).

The nicer parts of Izmir are generally along the coast. Those would include Alsancak just north of the main square, Karsiyaka and Bornova across the bay, and Balcova and several other areas in the direction of Cesme. All nice areas to shop and go to restaurants, but maybe not exciting otherwise. The long market you walked through was probably Konak and is OK during the day but not very safe at night.

Very interesting city of Ephesus. The Temple of Artemis was ranked at one of the 7 wonders of the world. The stadium had been rebuilt under Nero (54-68 C.E.) and was probably used for athletic contests and possibly gladiator combats. The Apostle Paul, mentioned in the Greek Scriptures, spoke about fighting wild beasts in Ephesus, possibly in this theater. I have so much more information but not enough space to write, lol. The Aegean coast is different from the Black Sea region of Turkey. My impression is the so called Turkish Riviera is a place to spend time on the beach, sail out on the sea and sample the local cuisine but the antiquities are underwhelming. Nice collab between you and Natasha and honestly, I agree if you keep your expectations in check, you could have a good time there and truth be told, you will either love or hate the lack of excitement in Aegean Turkey. When i first visited Toronto and for many years i totally hated it. It was the only place in Canada i didn't like. Felt like the city didn't like ME! Then in 2019 i went back to give it another chance. I stayed at a friend in a nice neighbourhood (Spadina/The Annex), discovered a new facet of it and loved it. I can't wait to go back in the summer and explore more. Sometimes a city just isn't for you, sometimes you just weren't in the right parts or there in the right time. Cities are like people; they have moods and a million different sides to it. So many factors can influence how we feel about a place we visit for the first time - where we are staying, the people we encounter, bad or good experiences, the political climate at the time, and even our own life. i loved your conclusion where you are asking for people from Izmir's opinions and suggestions. Again, you impress me more and more with your openness of mind and integrity! 💜

For me, I have a very positive impression of Izmir, the city is much relax compare to Istanbul, there is area in that city according to local that is not safe because of Gypsies which I can't confirm! but the local/shop worker is super friendly to tourist and don't try to rip you off as compare to place like(resturant under the bridge in Istanbul :P) is ok to love or muh any place depend on each individual perference! that's what make life fun when you have freedom and choice to go and do things as you enjoy!
2 thing you must do while visit Türkiye even if it sound too commerical is Balloon ride in Cappadocia/stay a few day in that area, Stay in Antalya area and enjoy the sea!

I've never felt more depressed and animosity towards me than I did in turkey. It's because I'm brown skinned although I'm American it didn't matter. The looks of hate I would get was pretty incredible. It's not a friendly place unless you giving out your cash

That place looked sort of sad. There is a fine line between charming and rundown, haha. It looks like more taxi issues. What I do is take a picture of the driver or if he has his license displayed I take a picture of that and send it to my friend. My daughter is gay and you would think telling the driver that, he would leave you alone, but it doesn't work they just angry for some reason.

I am a Turkish young Turkey is a beautiful country to visit as a tourist, but its people are getting poorer day by day because of the government they elected, and there is a feeling of uneasiness and distrust in the country because there are too many illegal immigrants from the Middle East. 😢😢😢

Love your videos Dari, but please speak a little louder and project your voice. Even though your English is very good, sometimes it's hard to understand you. This video was very interesting but certain parts were practically unintelligible. Otherwise, please keep doing what you are doing -- you do it well!

Greece in Turkey oh dear - you're going to get yourself in trouble again Dari :-)! The ruins are from the Byzantine emprire which was the Eastern (half) of the Roman empire, after it was split by Diocletian based around Contantinople/Istambul, it lasted far longer than the Western Roman empire (based around Rome) and was one of the four original main centres of Christianity (Jerusalem and Antioch the other ones obviously fell long before) and whilst they spoke Greek they considered themselves "Roman". Ironically even whilst occupied by the Otomans (up until the 19th century) Greeks didn't consider themselves "greek" as such but Roman, Greek "cultural awakening" etc. really occured as a result of all of the classicism etc. in the 18th/19th century when it became a rallying cry for rebellion agasint the Otomans and Roman by that time had become associated with old/defunct and led to teh war of independence, which Greece would have lost without intervention by other powers. Even more ironically genetically modern Turks in Turkey are pretty much 99% Greek/Byzantine Roman as the Seljuk turks generally intermarried after the conquest.

You are absouletly true about Izmir. I was there and all I hear was how liberal and progressive the city was. I explored many different parts of the city and it looked to me very small regions of the city lives that liberal life. I am from Istanbul and you can find more non-conservative people here. I think the locals of Izmir ara delusional.
