@@japanesetrainandtravel6168 Never seen such a big spark, but these happen because at the end of the station, the third rail switches to the other side. This causes a spark because of the electricity trying to stay connected.
@@rcdo-ultrarailwaytransitfan76 That is due to a long existing third-rail gap at the Westbound end of the Westbound track (the one that is on the Northeast side of the Union Station platform). Almost every train makes that arc.
It’s nothing severe. Just the third rail arcing. It’s actually pretty common for that to happen on such systems. Since the trains are electric, they get their power from that “third rail” (which is actually just an electrical conductor beside the tracks). The third rail is not continuous because there are many switches and sometimes grade crossings that the trains need to negotiate. Whenever there is a gap in the connection, the train’s contact shoe on the ending side stops touching it. When that occurs, you will sometimes see the last little bit of power being transferred on that side between the conductor and the train, and that’s what that spark is. Railfans call that a “third rail arcing”
Can't Wait to see this one soon, when I have a chance. I haven't when down spotting Red and Purple Lines, Now the B and D Lines since 2015 and I was unexpected to see this coming out off nowhere. So I glad they’re entering the HR4000's in service ✨

i will admit i will miss the design from the older breda trains, especially since im not a fan of the yellow on the sides (i may grow on it in the future though) but damn, i cant wait until these trains are fully rolled out
@@erik_griswold well yeah but i meant to say i liked how the outside of the breda trains looked considering that they'll eventually be retired (idk when though)
@greg.anywhere I'm sure they will. That will be a requirement from LA Metro. Having that compatibility and flexibility is crucial for more train management efficiency.
CRRC’s nationwide struggles led to the contract being cancelled sans the base order of 64. The new HR5000s currently being built by Hyundai Rotem will end up phasing out the A650s instead
Glad the HR4000 train continued operating today. Heard it had some bugs returning to Union Station. Can’t wait to try it soon!!
@peterbrassard38418 yes it’s trip was cancelled due to door software glitching but it seemed alright after!
Yeah I was kinda bummed that it broke down and I had to return on a old 1991 Breda.
Oh my god 0:37 big spark. That happens all the time when the new BART trains were testing when they first came out.

@@TransRightsTrains we have this occurrence in Toronto on our subway but never that loud as in this video

I understand this was a special run and they won’t be in regular service until January. I could be wrong.

@muscovy30 You mean cars, not trains, right?
This particular set of cars went into service after the special preview. It's running on the D line as of 12/20/24.
