welcome to fuji world:) now, i been shooting fuji for a few years now and it is a good system and i enjoy it a lot. i still shoot sports with nikon since i think fuji is still way behind in that area but you should get prepared for fuji fanboys telling you it is your fault and that the cameras are perfect:))) i owned about 6 fuji cameras and actually, for me, the XT5 is a bit the end of the road since it doesn’t seem to resolve my lenses well. anyway, enjoy your camera but get used to hate and endless debates:)
I think I remember the same thing happened to James Popsys when he moved from using his Lumix G9. There must be so many people out there who really love mft to the point of being tribal about it.
I've been a Fuji shooter for years and have become a subscriber to your channel not because or despite your gear, but because of ability to teach and entertain at the same time. The brand did not matter. Having said that, I have just upgraded from an X-T4 to an X-T5 and I absolutely love it. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I do.
Did the opposite. Catching a falling knife and just getting into m43 now. I just love the smaller lenses (even compared to Fuji APS) and more compact bodies. Have a OM-5 and also trying out a GX9. Hoping that Lumix doesn't abandon the range finder form factor or that OM surprises everyone and does do a PEN-F Mk2. Hanging on to the fuji lenses in case and looking out for an X-Pro-4 at some point.
Small is great. It just is. Long after you’ve finished editing & pixel peeping you’ll be grateful for the weightlessness and convenience that m43 gives you. The PEN EP7 + leather case is a great balance between size & weight.
@stephenfox5133 yes definitely enjoying the ep7..although I find for some reason it doesn't allow setting of min and max iso for a given shutter speed. I'm able to do this with other olympus bodies like em1 and pen f
No doubt people follow certain channels to get a recurring affirmation of a brand choice, I do it myself but I follow these videos for the photography. Keep up the great work!
Yes but it's fun to have better tools. The other day I used our job's full frame camera and my oh my the starry night I was able to capture in an urban setting, compared to my Panasonic m43...makes me wonder why I insist in keeping m43.
He proves it. I dont need to hear anything from anyone anymore. Its the mind behind the machine that counts overall. I am on Flickr and see so many poor boring unimaginative images using high tech fancy expensive gear every day been uploaded. This man has opened my eyes to what can be achieved when done RIGHT with less affordable gear.
I’ve seen one day a photographer showing that he could create fantastic pictures with a low range camera. It’s not the camera which is do important, but the ete!
I'm a long time subscriber and I've always respected and appreciated your approach to photography. Even after I sold off my Olympus gear two years ago, your channel was still one of my top 3 favorites. It will remain so. I too was hopeful Olympus-OM would make a concerted effort to move forward because I LOVED my Oly system. But you're correct, it seems like Fuji (and other systems) are moving forward and Olympus is standing still. The only direction in life is forward, and the only way to move forward is to let go of the past. Thanks Craig!
Welcome to the club 😀. I am considering upgrading my rather old XT2 to the XT5 in a few weeks time, so look forward to hearing your thoughts on the XT5 in the coming weeks and months. Having said that, I think you are one of those photographers who could produce interesting photos with any camera!
Welcome! Former OMD EM! user with the 12-40mm lens. Loved it and no regrets. Sold it and moved to Fuji. Couldn't be happier for the forseeable future as you said!...
I'm too old to switch. And you, dear Craig have demonstrated, that the camera doesn't matter for your art but composition. And you are right! I don't understand why your choice is the Fuji XT-5.
I’m excited to see whatever new views you find with a “tweaked” shooting style, Craig! Folks upset about your change seem to have put a little too much weight into what gear they use as compared to their favorite UA-camr. You’ve inspired me with M43, and you’ll inspire me with Fuji/Ricoh. Cheers!
Wow.... great move. Sometimes you just need to move forward, try something new and refresh. Thanks for all your posts, always thought provoking and enjoyable. Happy 2023.
When I subscribed to your channel, I did it to feel good about my decision of getting into the Olympus ecosystem and stick to it regardless of all the FF and other systems "better performance" that we hear in social media every day. I still am happy with that decision and I don't think I will switch gear any time soon. I keep coming back to your channel though because you provide great inspiration and guidance to improve my photography and get out there and shoot. Having said that, it would be funny if OM Systems released in 2023 a new weather sealed Pen F ( I doubt it but you never know lol). Thank you for your great contribution to the photography community and all the best in 2023!
I deeply enjoyed this gentleman’s excellent British English and the sound quality of the video. Professional, to say the least! I am tired of listening to all ”rappers” these days!
Some of the comments on this thread are just extraordinary! Why on earth would you sulk and unsubscribe due to a change of gear? It’s the eye behind the camera that’s important, not the gear itself.
I’ve always valued your approach, humour and compositions, regardless of gear. That being said, you’ve often demonstrated what can be accomplished with an iPhone, pinhole or plastic Volga. I’m an OM user and value it for what it delivers in a small form factor and am not sure when/if I’ll outgrow it. Keep up the great work Craig!
I must say that I found your channel when looking for m4/3 content. But then I enjoyed your images so much that I subscribed and wait anxiously every new video. I am an Olympus user myself and any time I am dissatisfied with the results I get and think of switching brand I remember your images and realice it is no camera fault and stay with my camera for another year or so. I will keep watching your videos because I enjoy and learn from them regardless of the camera. It is just a tool.
What a pleasant surprise to have this video suggested in my feed here on UA-cam. Glad you are posting on here again; I'll catch up with the videos since you left. Shoot with any camera fella, you make them all sing!
7:15 I believe that does have the same compression effect. Compression in the image is purely a relationship between the camera position, subject position and background position. I.e. the distance between them determines the compression of the image. Telephoto lenses merely seem to have more compression because they force a larger distance between camera and subject.
Very interesting. I've been following you for a long time now, and learned a lot from you when I started to use Olympus gear. I don't feel the need to change for the moment, but a camera is still just a camera; a piece of equipment. I love my setup - it's an extension of myself - but I know it's not there forever. Technology evolves rapidly and OM System, honestly... well I just don't understand what they are doing. Anyway, I salute your open-mindedness. EM5 III & 12-40mm f 2.8 / urban photography here. Been through quite a few Olympus configurations before, but I'm quite happy now. What's the future made of? I don't know! Interesting video indeed ;-)
Leica was in a worse position than Olympus around the late 80’s, but new owners eventually turned the company around and now they are thriving. I have high hopes that Olympus will get back to that thriving point. But let’s face it, Olympus is lucky to have Panasonic keeping the format going with the GH6. When phase detect gets ported to the MFT cameras I am sure we will get more buzz back into MFT, and Olympus will benefit from that. Olympus really needs to follow Panasonic’s lead though, and join the L-mount Alliance. A full frame Olympus would be good for the brand. It would also bring some cash through the doors for more MFT R&D.
That all sounds like a great move for you, Craig. I've stuck with Olympus because I shoot a lot of long lens birds/insects/macro. But I did add a full frame Sony this year for non-travel event and indoor sports with the grand kids. I still prefer using the Olympus gear, but the low light action results with the Sony are excellent. I'd love to have a Ricoh...and a Fuji...and a Red...and...
Personally a Nikon user, but either Sony, Canon, or Nikon would have been also great choices, considering their new mirrorless bodies and extensive glass
Apart from the available glass I think it also the colour science, personally Sony's are a bit meh but that's an individual choice. The main feature which attracted me to Olympus was their awesome weather sealing perhaps only beaten by Pentax but you tend to attract weird folks when whipping out a Pentax.
@@keithrjoseph9528 to be honest, i never understood what people mean by ''color science'' it honestly feels almost like some placebo or something. i shoot raw. the color science is how i want it to be in post and LR hsl. reminds me of a super amusing comment the other day where i showed a photo to someone and he was like ''oh yeah thats so typical olympus colors'' ... what the heck are you even talking about? the colors of that shot are totally made up by me in post. the before doesnt even look close to that.
Good choice, Fuji is an awesome system too. But, when OM comes out with the PEN-F II you may be kicking yourself 😄. Either way, you'll be fine with any camera. Those film simulations are awesome!
Cool beans. I love my Fuji gear and I love my Olympus gear. I get enjoyment from using both. I look forward to seeing the photos you produce with the Fuji gear. Your videos are always enjoyable to watch. 😊
I've been in the same boat as yourself- I've been a m43 shooter for past 5 yrs and I love the system but the limitations have me looking to jump back into the APSC world. Fujifilm seems like the APSC king at the moment and the Xt-5 looks to be a killer camera for stills. 40 megapixels is way more than enough and having the option to shoot even higher resolution is incredible. I like the point you made with being able to go from 3x2 to 4x3 which is the ideal format in my cases. Thank you for your honest overview on the Fuji xt-5 especially coming from a M43 shooter. Definitely looking forward to future videos and images with your new setup. Great video!
I am actually excited about the fact that you are using a different camera now. You can show us it can be done with most of today's cameras out there. Looking forward to your future videos with this one and your experience compared with the previous cameras that you have used.
The format shouldn't matter, it should all be about the pictures. I'll still stay subbed, Craig even as a M43 user myself I'm not too fussed by your switch. Enjoy your new camera and Happy New Year to you for 2023.
Shoot with whatever camera system(s) that you love. It is your choice as to styling of a camera & the lenses that are offered. I switched after 40years of Canon cameras & lenses to Fujifilm & have not regretted doing so . Cheers!😊
I guessed. And I still stand by my stance that MFT is the best cropped sensor format. Your choice, but I won't be convinced by the argument for Fuji no matter what.
😂 having seen your videos years ago when I shot Nikon I'd been trying to remember your channel for 2yr since switching to Olympus ...and of course this is the first video I see ! ✌️❤️📷
As an Olympus user, I have similar feelings about the brand, in that they're not moving forward very quickly and will soon be left behind - technicallyspeaking. I suppose that being relatively small, they don't have the same R&D budget as the Sonys and Canons of this world. I'm not looking to switch (yet), but if I was the photo-centric XT5 would be my first choice, especially with that screen design...
I switched to MFT from Canon two years ago. I do have Sony A7S II and ZV-E10 for full frame and vloggy moments, but rarely use them because I love using the G9 (favorite camera ever) and GH5 M2 for getting serious with video. I have a mix of Lumix, Leica, and Olympus lenses. Love those Olympus lenses. The 12mm f2 is my next purchase. Changing systems is a pain where I sit down. Takes ages to round out a lens collection. My sympathies for the change over pains, but if the new system fits your needs, then a few growing pains are worth it.
Congrats on the new system. I currently shoot with the EM1.3 it mostly suits my current needs, my main gripe which you also mentioned is the lack of upgraded prime lenses, I have the f1.8 trio 17mm, 25mm, 45mm wish they were weather sealed. I like the command dials vs the vintage control dials, i like that when the camera is turned off an accidental bump of the dials will not change any settings. I also I think that OM system is standing pat, will see where I will it will go in the future...
OK, i admit it, i ,moved from Olympus a few years back too and now use a Fuji XT-4, which I much prefer. The kit is unimportant for your channel, for me it has always been about the way you explain your thought processes and compositions and I was lucky enough to have a day out with you a few years back where I learnt so much!!!!
This is an excellent sum up, of just my observations. A keen travel photographer mainly using Olympus OM-D em1 MK 2. The size, build and construction of Fujifilm X series cameras are so attractive. I have tried XT1 . XT 20 and X-H1 . On a recent big trip to Canada I noted the best shots were all on Fuji XT20 . I will be holding on to my Olympus kit as the size and low weight fo 4/3 lenses is ideal for ski photography, where I keep all kit ready to hand without causing problems with bulk or balance. It interesting that we have both come to the same conclusion. Top tip for those interested in making a switch - try a preowned XT1 and its colour rendition will blow your mind.
I have recently changed from Olympus om5 to a Leica Cl which was on offer at John Lewis due to being discontinued. I just needed a simpler camera with less buttons and controls. I shoot manual focus and in B/W using a Voigtlander 35 f2 and I not been happier with my photography since my film days with my Olympus OM2. Why can’t manufacturers make a digital camera with just the things you need. Viewfinder, focus using the focus ring, line up the needle where you want it and press the shutter button. These modern day cameras feel like your playing an accordion lol. Keep up the good work Craig your an inspiration.
I assume it’s great for street photographers, but for me, Olympus is better for wildlife and landscape photography. The 40-150 and 300 mm PRO lenses are superb for wildlife, and the 7-14 and 12-40 are great for landscape work. A huge bonus is that I haven’t felt the need for a tripod in the past 5 years, hugely reducing the weight of my backpack.
If you’re looking for a small light zoom, then I can recommend the Sigma 18-50 f2.8 recently released in a Fujifilm mount. No WR or VR but excellent optical quality.
This is the first time I watch a video on this channel… I can understand your change. I am a long time Olympus user but I own some Fuji cameras too… both brands are great, so I can't make up my mind to sell my Olympus stuff and I always loved the IBIS on it. On the other hand I miss the IBIS on my X-T3 a lot though I won't upgrade to an X-T5. Camera prices have risen so sharply.
Welcome to Fuji! Check out the Viltrox 13mm f/1.4 and the new 75mm. Awesome image quality for a great price. Tamron and Sigma have some excellent smaller zooms as well.
In my opinion you produce great content. I really cannot get uptight or even offended by what you choose to use as your camera of choice. Your work is very inspirational to me, as is your method of delivery.
Horses for courses, I guess? I've lugged around a Canon 5D with 3 zooms up to 70-200 on holidays and hikes and was getting dragged under by chiropractor bills. All without ever being stunned by print sharpness. For the past few years, it's been a Pen F or EM1-II plus F1.8 primes and zooms but, really, the Pen F and the 12-100 f4 is unmatched for versatility, compactness and sharpness. Along with OM lens sharpness and Topaz software, printing up to A1 is beautiful and how much more do we need? I know it's lazy turning a zoom ring rather than walking but for holidays and biking and general photography, (small) size really does matter. Like a lot of people though, I'd be in the queue for an upgraded Pen F so hope it happens.
As an aging photographer, my time has come where large bodies and lenses has taken its toll. They've become taxing to lug in large backpacks while travelling. So, I'm saying good-bye to large bodies and leaning towards small rangefinder DSLRs like Sony a6xxx series and premium point-and-shoots like Ricohs, etc. The switch is more honorable that having to switch from one brand to another just for the reason it might be a better choice.
I had a Fuji. Nice camera. Sold it though. I bought the Sony A7R lll w/ Sony 1.8 80mm. Wow. Just point and shoot and hits focus. Eyeballs in focus. AWB amazing. Beautiful colors. High capacity battery.
I just sold all of my Olympus cameras except the Pen F.. Bye bye EM1X, EM1.2 and all the pro lenses. I am now shooting a DSLR again the Nikon 850. As a Wildlife shooter I am loving the AF in low light and amazing image quality.
Just canm across your channel agree with you about the limitations of the Olympus system , as an Olympus user I just don't see how they thought it was OK to put the same 20MP sensor on both flagship and mid range models. More than likely I'll keep my EM 1 but start investing in Canon full frame just because I like their colour science . The sad thing about Olympus was that there were 100MP MFT and higer resolution EVF's available which would have rescued the format in thier flagship models . The OMD is still a great system and worth keeping if you have one but it would be hard to justify buying a new model bearing in mind there are more capable sysyems available at a similar price
This could be worrying. I just hope you're not also looking at camper vans in Autocar magazine or trying on baseball caps indoors. Happy new Year Craig and looking forward to more of your fine UA-cam photography content.
" Had to pick myself up off the floor Craig! thought it might be a Nikon Fm3, or something like that😊 I went modern with my latest camera fuji xe2, as a small rangefinder its great! thanks for the vid Craig, nice.
Hey Craig, congrats on the swap! May I ask how you find the Fuji camera as a replacement of the much loved monochrome 2 profile of the Pen F? This is what's holding me back at the moment. Thanks!
Same for me. Loved it. Unfortunately the weak AF and not weatherproof of the pen-f killed my joy. But I still wish for a watersealed om1 like AF PenF camera soon
For that "film like" camera experience I use manual lenses that require you to set the aperture and manually focus on a 16 mp EM5 body. I try to frame the image to make use of the whole sensor and avoid cropping. It's a low cost setup (
First camera was a Praktica. My avatar me was using a Canon FF. I also shot the 7D APS-C. Nikon 35mm film before that. Olympus now, due to the size & weight. I've done pro work with ALL, except the Praktica - I was 11 years old at the time! 🤣 You shoot with whatever you want, Craig, and it'll be excellent. I've no doubts. So, anyone "hating" on you or your channel simply don't get it. See you in the next upload, and Happy New Year 😄👍
Good timing with this video. I was all in with the Olympus system and was debating getting the OM-1. In the end, I moved onto the Sony A7IV and Ricoh GR IIIx.
I too am saying good bye to Olympus just now. I bought my first Olympus camera in the 1990s, and the only analog SLR I kept is from Olympus, the old OM-1. A couple years after it came out I bought the Pen-F and a set of lenses for it, because I really love (and still do) the design of the camera, and the size and weight factors of the lenses. I especially am fond of the very versatile jpg customization features of that camera and its b&w abilities. But all the time I had another love in the back of my head, and that's for the Foveon sensor. All the time I still kept my DP1 and DP3 Merrills and a DP0 Quattro, although rarely used. Now I'm sitting in wheelchair when I'm out to take pictures. Size and weight of the camera system is of no concern any longer, since my wheelchair carries that. So I recently bought a SD Quattro with a couple lenses and went back to Foveon. My Pen F and the lenses for it will be traded in for a few more lenses for the Sigma. Foveon it will be again for the foreseeable future. I will keep my Olympus Tough TG-6 as my point and shoot trouser pocket camera, though. So its not a complete farewell to that brand. Those cropping advantages compared to MFT is something I really enjoy with the APS-C sensors as well - and is the main reason why I'm thinking now to additionally look out for a SD Quattro H body. And talking about the perfect camera - I think you hardly can venture farther away from that concept than you can do with a Sigma Foveon camera ...
Hello from a fellow switcher, I also just made the switch to the X-T5 and was quite blown away by the X-T5. However, I am still keeping my E-M5III for telephoto & using live composite for now.
I am certain that every Olympus user has the urge to buy a Fuji camera, I find them very similar in vibe and workflow and very tempting for current Olympus users, maybe in the future I'll switch as well, for now Olympus has a lot more to offer to me than I need or want.
I dont have no emotional attachement to any camera, brand. Its just a tool that enables me to try ad capture compelling images. Getting out and enjoying. Having fun. I literally sold a Nikon body and lenses yesterday because it just didn't feel right for me even with all the fancy specs but my old pentax 10 megapixel K200D feels much better and is a joy to use and can yield good results as I am aware of its limitations and work around them.
But I miss a folding screen for more awkward angles enabling more creative shots. Hence why I am ordering another body today after many hours of research and have a guess what... ITS AN OLYMPUS.
12:29 welcome to the Fuji world. I loved my Pen F and my m4/3 lenses but I switched all my bodies & lenses in 2020 to an X-E4, X70 and XT200. I switched he’d for much the same reasons as you have stated. I’ve also considered the Ricoh but I’m waiting for a flip screen version. Wishful thinking maybe, who knows? I look forward to your new content.
I recently deserted Olympus for Leica. It started with the Q2 Monochrome (which I used parallel to my Olys) but then it finally had to be the M11 (as I already knew the M system from my film Ms). Lenses are also incredibly small - think I don ´t need to emphasise their performance. I ´m totally happy with my decision.
Hi Craig, I have been thinking about your purchase of a new camera. For me, the X-T5 is the Daimler-Benz of cameras. I can never afford it, but I do not begrudge you from the bottom of my heart. Nevertheless, I am a little sad: Craig Roberts was considered by me as the photo artist who always put the view and composition in the foreground and proved that you can make good pictures with any hardware. You even helped to save the Micro 4/3 sensor format, encouraging photographers who can't afford high-end equipment - I'm one of them. Nevertheless, I appreciate your videos and thank you for sharing your experience and teaching us to look at the world positively.
You don't mention the cost difference of the lenses what is the total cost of all your gear compared to the equivalent MFT lenses. Not everyone can afford Fuji ?
I was just going to make a general comment when I saw that someone commented that the camera system does not matter. I wish that were true I suppose. But tools affect results. Using a dull saw affects your carpentry. And if you have ever switched from western style push saws to Japanese pull saws, you suddenly find you are a much better carpenter than you thought. I was a huge fan of the Olympus Pen F. But having used Pentax K1000, 645, and 67 as well as view camera lenses, I wanted aperture on the lens. And analog controls. The original OM-1 lenses had both aperture and shutter speed on the lenses. Just like view camera and Hasselblad. Bottom like the Fuji XT5 is really something of a game changer. It is affecting my use of the GFX. I may even end up selling my GF 110mm because the 56mm f1.2 is so good. I completely love how small the Olympus system is and wish I had the money to have an Olympus wildlife set up instead of the 100-400 Fuji. However, (and apologies for the length of this but it broke my heart to sell all my Olympus gear and yet am glad I did) the better we get at photography the more issues like tonal range and out of focus transitions start to matter to us. Which is why I am willing to lug around GFX gear. However, fujis new 18mm, 33mm and 56mm really do approach GFX and Pentax 67 quality. The 56mm in fact is little short of amazing. Yes, big. Yes, heavy, but very very good. Again sorry this is so long. I did not have time to make it short…
Yes, I agree with your choice. I gravitate toward both Fuji and Nikon for wonderful results. Don't forget that you can still use your favourite old lenses with an appropriate adapter ring.... but of course, you already knew that ! :D
You make very nice photos and I'm sure you could live just with an Olympus E-M5. If you had to. I like very much the 40Mp from Xt5 and the possibility of using one prime like a multi prime, but not a zoom. My choices are Olympus for very litle size and quality and Fuji for magical easy rendering jpegs with bigger glass than olympus, but not to big. Those 23 and 35 mm, 1.4, have a magical rendering. But can't sell my 75mm Olympus ! Thanks for the video !
I like the OM1 live exposure feature and the hand held extra megapixel in camera abilities. Came from Canon DSLR’s and I went to Fujifilm XH2. So far I like it. It’s not perfect but offers a lot for the money. The view finder and back screen is excellent. Build quality is excellent and most important the photos look great right out of camera jpegs. Make sure you turn down the high iso noise reduction to -4 though, as I find it very heavy handed even at low iso’s. Took me a while to get used to it for sure. My old Canon EF lenses work great with it too. (Fringer adapter)
Hi Craig thanks for sharing your rationale for switching from Olympus to Fujifilm. I have been shopping for a better system as I too feel Olympus has become a bit long in the tooth and my kit is incredibly dated (E-3!) . I am going to look into Fujifilm more based on your viewpoints. Btw one slight correction. You mentioned the OM-D OM-1 has a evf that is around 5 MP, which is wrong. Using dots is camera industry's deceptive marketing tactic to count individual RGB dots that make up each pixel. So 5.76 dots is equal to just under 2 megapixels--a 1200x1600 pixels or QXGA EVF resolution.
Great, .... I too have been bouncing the idea of X-H2 for a while now. (courious why X-T5 over X-H2??, the dials ???) It seems to me that Olympus got lost with the new ownership. I am very disappointed with the new OM sensor ( just me too, another 20 MPX), very little innovation ... etc. Craig, all the best in 2023 !!!!
I found your channel a few years ago and became a subscriber, despite not owning an Olympus camera. It was the photography I liked, how you framed the compositions, light and the many other variables that go in to getting a great photo in your own style. Now you have gone to Fuji, I have to say that I will stay subscribed and continue to watch your videos and learn from them. Interesting video but (depending on Christmas presents) best not mention changing from Y-fronts to boxers or vice-versa. P.S. My wife would be interested in the sewing channel.
okay Camera change from micro four to FF?... Well, for me, if I exposed the photo correctly, the number of pixels is not a major disadvantage. In e.g. Lightroom, under the Photo tab, at the bottom, "enhance" the program fixes noise and resolution well enough, even if cropped, to print for example 70-100 cm with excellent results, even with a picture taken with an iPhone 11, that I use.
Sticking with Olympus (new OM1, full-spectrum EM1 II, new EM1 III), Fuji (3 XPro1s with lots of character, XE2s), Canon 1DX, 5D IV, 3 new(!) 5DSRs, new 100-400, new TS 17, TS24, Ricoh GRIII (non X) Horses for courses.... You will miss the superior image stabilisation and true weather sealing. Only Canon, Nikon and Pentax can approach the weather sealing.
Happy New Year to you Craig, enjoyed this Vlog and looking forward to your new content in 2023 regardless of what you shot it on! I use a Panasonic LX100 for street, it would be perfect if it had a flip up screen, but as you say no camera is perfect! Those that say they’ll unsubscribe due to your kit change will miss one of the best vloggers on UA-cam, your images, your humour, the length of vid, (too many people putting out vlogs several times a week that are 35+ mins, lots of car park, or driving scenes, making cups of coffee and waffling!) Keep doing what you do so well 👍📷
Congratulation. What many people don't know: Fuji cameras link perfectly to Fuji Instax printers. People are super happy when you take their picture and "instantly" hand them the paper picture. -- Apparently they don't connect to the new Instax Link printers, have to use the older "Share" printers. Shame...
If you felt it was time for a change then it's time for a change in system. All the modern digital camera systems are excellent and gone are the days of poor cameras and lenses to a certain extent. The Fuji system is an excellent system to invest in. Enjoy your new XT5 :)
Thanks for this. I am considering this precise change, but worry about weight and price. You do provide a partial solution for the weight difference (wrt ON-5, for instance). I also find the computational features in Om (live ND etc) attractive.
Nowt wrong with the Fuji system, it was bloody brilliant, I sold mine last year (2022) as it simply wasn’t being used no other reason. Now I just use Nikon, film, DSLR and Mirrorless, lenses from 1970’s work fine on all three systems which is pretty cool and not only that they get IBIS on my Z7, it is just so much easier having the one system, at least it is for me. You’ll enjoy your time with Fuji, good luck.
What was your thinking process in not selecting a full frame camera option? I'm guessing that size and weight were not considerations since differences can be small, especially given that you're using mild focal length primes.
@@djstuc Sure, there's lots of overlap in size and weight. The Sony A7c for example is substantially smaller and a bit lighter than the XT5. The difference holds when coupled to standard and wider primes. So potentially the A7c makes for a nicer cityscape, street, documentary kind of package. The FF and lower resolution sensor does give a more malleable file, more options in source capture and in post. Hey, whatever. I use primarily Panasonic MFT, occasionally Canon FF and occasionally a Pentax Q with its very small 1/2.3 sensor. I'm sure Fuji APS-C cameras are just fine.
The never ending chase of more and more of mirrorless. If the PenF was giving you good photos before, it’ll give you good pictures until the camera dies.
I'm an old pentax film camera user , then to Nikon digital for years , then a Sony mirrorless for travel, and now xs10 fuji for the stability and lowlight shooting, but as I have different lenses for all cameras I still use all of the cameras . I do love the Fuji ibis though and finding that shooting at higher isos is very handy 👌there are so many good cameras on the market now so you just have to decide is this camera allowing you to shoot in your style. Shooting hand held in low light and getting good enough results for me suits my style.
WOW! So much hate!
welcome to fuji world:) now, i been shooting fuji for a few years now and it is a good system and i enjoy it a lot. i still shoot sports with nikon since i think fuji is still way behind in that area but you should get prepared for fuji fanboys telling you it is your fault and that the cameras are perfect:))) i owned about 6 fuji cameras and actually, for me, the XT5 is a bit the end of the road since it doesn’t seem to resolve my lenses well. anyway, enjoy your camera but get used to hate and endless debates:)
Crazy isn’t it 😂 This is nothing, just try posting about changing from Apple to Android or vice versa!! 💣💣
M43 folks are always very sensitive 😂
That’s the internet for you…
I think I remember the same thing happened to James Popsys when he moved from using his Lumix G9.
Same..owned a number of fuji bodies and lenses but now strictly shoot with m43
I appreciate that!
The Camera System is Not Important. You are such a good photographer with any Camera Brand. Love your videos!
Yes but it's fun to have better tools. The other day I used our job's full frame camera and my oh my the starry night I was able to capture in an urban setting, compared to my Panasonic m43...makes me wonder why I insist in keeping m43.
EXACTLY.
Even in low light been tactical can yield good results with a less faster lens.. Its about been smart and picking the right situations. Been patient.
Cheers!
Thankyou Mike. The most sensible reply so far!
Well put.
BS. I am not upset. I just try to understand why he changed, and none of his arguments makes sense. Why change if gear doesn’t matter?
…because, maybe, just maybe, with all things said, I swapped because I thought, what the hell, why not! For that reason alone.
What ever happened to “be nice”….
Some people need to grow up.
Love your videos and photos. All the best for 2023
Wow.... great move. Sometimes you just need to move forward, try something new and refresh. Thanks for all your posts, always thought provoking and enjoyable. Happy 2023.
Well, yes, that’s the plan in my head. To some others, i seem to have become The Devil!!
Good call! I had an XT5 but returned it for XT30ii haha so far I am loving it!
Thanks Jules. My faith in humanity has been restored again…well, at least until the next comment comes in! 😉
😂🙄😂
Ahhh, a sensible reply at last. Thank you.
Correct. It's amazing how many experienced photographers don't understand this.
Thanks for your past Olympus-related videos! Will be looking at others for their m43 contents, cheers.
Used an Em5 MK2 with a 12-40 for ages..... Incredible set up.... Amazing lens.... Only struggled in low light.... Wish I hadn't sold it lol...
I've been following you for a while and have never owned an Olympus. I'll continue to follow regardless of the camera you use.
This comment needs to be highlighted in gold.
Thank you for your wonderful videos and for leaking your thoughts! All the best for 2023!
I'm not looking to switch (yet), but if I was the photo-centric XT5 would be my first choice, especially with that screen design...
what do think about this Fuji for video as in walking around vlogs? thats huge for me and thats why I currently use Olympus and Lumix cameras.
Just decided this week to sell my Olympus gear and move to Fujifilm. XT2 and 23 f2, 12-55mm F2.8 to start with
This is an excellent sum up, of just my observations.
It feels like you're playing an accordion! I like that, and can't wait to use it some day... 😄
Left m43 however thinking about jumping back in back to Panasonic. I’m curious on the Olympus announcement that’s scheduled soon.
God dam it! I’ll have to sell all my Oly stuff now!! …….what day mean it’s not the gear😮 just joking , love your stuff and I’ll be staying on E6 👍👍👍
In my opinion you produce great content. I really cannot get uptight or even offended by what you choose to use as your camera of choice.
Your work is very inspirational to me, as is your method of delivery.
Thankyou. Maybe i should have just announced it was the new Ricoh instead. Less backlash then!😆
I moved to Fuji and kept my Olympus cameras and lenses. Still love the small Olympus lenses.
Well-explained. Yes, OM has been asleep. Need a new PEN-F replacement ASAP in order to compete with Ricoh and the X100?series.
I thought the OM-1 sensor was stacked and back-side-illuminated whilst the OM-5 had the same sensor as the previous cameras.
It's not the same sensor in the OM-1 and OM-5.
The GRiii is a fantastic camera and now you've made me want a GRiiix too. 😄
What a beautiful composition at 3:56. Do you have that photo posted anywhere? What was your focal length (FF equivalent)?
Welcome to the Fuji family, your going to love the lenses.
You shoot with whatever you want, Craig, and it'll be excellent.
Nice combination 👍
I am excited that I now have a somewhat similar setup like Craig - an X-T2 with the new 23mm f1.4. I need more practice, though
Hi Joshua, how would you compare your E-M5III to your X-5T?
I am certain that every Olympus user has the urge to buy a Fuji camera, I find them very similar in vibe and workflow and very tempting for current Olympus users, maybe in the future I'll switch as well, for now Olympus has a lot more to offer to me than I need or want.
Like your lense thoughts
When you are happy, I’m happy ‼️
Hope to seeing more action soon 🙏🏻‼️
(courious why X-T5 over X-H2??, the dials ???)
It seems to me that Olympus got lost with the new ownership. I am very disappointed with the new OM sensor ( just me too, another 20 MPX), very little innovation ... etc.
Craig, all the best in 2023 !!!!
…if I survive the next year!
X-T5 is smaller
Your right ,the camera does not matter, but Ideas do change ( The Full Frame Revolution 3:52 )
Have fun with your Toy.. I'm loving my Eos R5
Welcome to Fuji, I've been on it for a year now. Amazing tools.
The camera makes so much sense..... Want one lol....
Oh and totally agree about the screen.... Big Olympus mistake.... Well done Fuji....
Congratulations, Craig. I expect you'll really enjoy the X-T5.
Happy New Year to you Craig, enjoyed this Vlog and looking forward to your new content in 2023 regardless of what you shot it on! I use a Panasonic LX100 for street, it would be perfect if it had a flip up screen, but as you say no camera is perfect!
Those that say they’ll unsubscribe due to your kit change will miss one of the best vloggers on UA-cam, your images, your humour, the length of vid, (too many people putting out vlogs several times a week that are 35+ mins, lots of car park, or driving scenes, making cups of coffee and waffling!) Keep doing what you do so well 👍📷
No weekly long waffles or making cups of coffee in car parks! Got it! 👍😆
If i don’t get stoned when out using it, i will try!
Unfortunately, I also feel like the Olympus cameras have reached their peak. I wish I foresaw new innovation on the horizon, but I'm not confident.
What was your thinking process in not selecting a full frame camera option? I'm guessing that size and weight were not considerations since differences can be small, especially given that you're using mild focal length primes.
Can’t think of any reason why I would need full frame.
@@djstuc Nowt like a bit of obfuscation to muddy the waters
The never ending chase of more and more of mirrorless. If the PenF was giving you good photos before, it’ll give you good pictures until the camera dies.
I'm an old pentax film camera user , then to Nikon digital for years , then a Sony mirrorless for travel, and now xs10 fuji for the stability and lowlight shooting, but as I have different lenses for all cameras I still use all of the cameras . I do love the Fuji ibis though and finding that shooting at higher isos is very handy 👌there are so many good cameras on the market now so you just have to decide is this camera allowing you to shoot in your style. Shooting hand held in low light and getting good enough results for me suits my style.
great decision Craig, I shoot Sony APSC but I like the fujifilm a lot. Tried the GR3 from a friend but miss the EVF
Always interesting to hear your thoughts Craig; you will not need luck with your new set-up because you think things through! Happy New Year.
Yes, that’s the typical Libran that I am!
