- In Moscow, the final round on Day 1, U.S. #1 Hikaru Nakamura edges out World #2 Levon Aronian of Armenia, the co-leader. After a disappointing one out of four start, Nakamura finished the day on +1 in the middle of the field.
How GM talk:
GM1: yeah yeah..@$#$^^%^...yea
GM2: yes yes..probably..yes
GM1: #$%$% hmm..yes..yeaaah
GM2 : yea yes
Aronin may have lost this day, but won this tournament and become 2010 world blitz champion!
Great vids, Macauley P. :)
Aronian lost this game but won this tournament and thus became the world blitz chess champion of 2010
nice play by Naka
why did aronian back up his bishop in 6:32??? why not take the pawn?
Augustus Flaccus rook f2 with a pin. Then no matter what, the bishop is lost
@afrojavix because chess combines art and sport at the highest possible level. its addictive
i wonder why i watch this videos, i dont even know how to play this...
wow.. I didn't even notice there was auxiliary board until half way through the video... All my focus was on the real board so I think my brain saw everything in the surrounding area as irreverent and immediately shut it out. I think that this might have something to do with how my dyslexic mind is wired shutting out the unimportant and enhancing the important. No wonder dyslexics are known to be terrible at basic things then excel at others.
get rid of the damn arrows. G5 is not a real threat lol
Aronian appears to me to be one of the classiest GMs around
He really is, Anand too.
+MrUtubePete He is my favorite player. He seems the most down to earth to me. And he's always accepted defeat graciously.
MrUtubePete ya i agree but he can not match the class of maxime vachier lagrave
it's true
Aronian stabbed the cab driver that night with a sharp homemade bishop
this was well made, I like how the he edited the game over the clip so the viewer can follow easier.
Nakamura always makes faces as if he has lost it.. :P
Mohit Sharma slow roling like a bitch
Aside of chess, some of these guys are serious nut cases. They give it away through lotsa signals and movements. Ivantchuk beats them all, but the list is long.
I would like to nominate Walter Browne as one of the top 10, perhaps top 5.
(This comment is based solely on appearances) Yet it seems as walter is a gifted player in the game of chess, but possibly in the game of life he's not playing with a full deck...
Great use of the bishop by Nakamura not allowing Aronian to move his rook over to the A file to stop that pawn at the end. I've also never seen that opening Nakamura was using. It's different. I'll have to check that out. Good video.
great video. love how the music came at the end when Aronian realized he was lost
The song is called Not Enough Silence by Druzilla
Aronian may have lost this game, but he won this tournament and thus became the 2010 world blitz champion!
really well made video. This is ideal for watching blitz on youtube. Nice job.
Levon is such a decent guy I really like him. Plus he fulfilled and exceeded his expectations!
@OmgAKROMA111 - That was ChessBase's automatic "show threats" feature. Should have been disabled.
@6:54 why doesnt naka move his rook on H2 to F2? What is he thinking about for so long and why!? I understand the pawn threatening the rook is pinned but take care of giving away free pawns first right? Anyone?
If I had a nickel for every time I get this question...oh man! Sorry to disappoint, but as with most music I used, this is a royalty-free track, part of Soundtrack Pro, and I don't know the author.
This format is awesome man! You get the reality of chess champs pushing pieces along with a very well dimensionned 2d insight. Keep that this way, it's close to perfection with regards to chess documentaries.
I think maybe because after 1: Bxf6 ... Bd3 and the rook is dead
Seconded! I was just thinking while watching, I wish there were more videos like this one. Good quality footage, too.
would you mind not putting up arrows, your analysis is very strong, lol
@AvatarAddict911 - You can tell by who initiates the handshake and stops the clock (i.e. resigns).
It's cool to see them discussing the game afterwards instead of quickly running away.
the music ruined the video
Nakamura is a Bliz specialist correct? Most of his videos, Nakamura is playing blitz.
Probably the best lightning player in the world right now I believe. I'm sure he ranks top five in 3 min games
soakedbearrd He is ranked 5th in the world, but with Blitz, he might be #1.
danpt2000 nah carlsen is number one in blitz too
draxwar3 Where does it say that?

If Aronian took the pawn with the bishop at f5, immediately Rf2 (pinning the bishop) is vastly better than Bd3. If Nakamura played Bd3, Aronian could then take the d4 pawn with the e-file rook and in fact defend both. After the forced rook exchange on d4, Rf2 would HAVE to follow for white (yet now out of tempo). Black's rook will take the idiotic bishop on d3 and check, king will have to move out of check and black's rook will return to d5 protecting from Rxf5+ while attacking the c3 pawn.
Why do you keep pointing to g5? The position of Nakamura's dark square bishop is not particularly strong. I'm sure he would love an excuse to move it. Not to mention, g5 weakens Aronian's kingside pawn structure, leaving him with less chance to castle safely, particularly if Nakamura is holding on to his dark-square bishop. Notice that Aronian declines to castle until the dark-square bishop (and queen) is off the board. It would be foolish for him to play g5 just to push the bishop around.
Amazing trap by nakamura :D
Is that what you call an after game discussion....? Gotta love GMs
A: Yeah...
N: Yeah...
A: I had seen it but I panicked
N: Yeah that one
A: Yeah
A: Good Game
N: Thanks...
Huh! What the hell did they just discuss... the passed pawn... they understood without any words... but we don't understand.
nah he just helped a fellow chess player out, he hesitated on purpose, because aronian was short on time, he didnt want him to look bad you know. sounds like small thing, but those gifts go a long way you know, the establishment will tread naka then more nicely.....
Umm...No...it's a royalty free track that Kryzis Kls decided to loop their rap over.
@TheEverburningFathom Its called the Trompowsky attack (A45). Ya it could turn into a London System but Nakamura choose to play c4 instead of c3 so with that choice the game became a Queens gambit declined opening ;)
Greetz Tim.
8:38 White wins because he can queen his A pawn and black can't queen his H pawn.
I really like Aronian's friendly demeanour and the way he wants to chat up his opponent after the game as opposed to Nakamura who is just a self-important ass and that's why he will never become a memorable chess player.
If someone is running low on time, but is clearly ahead, is it poor etiquette to make quick moves (even if they're bad moves) to try to hope they can't checkmate you in time, or is that normal and expected?
Why was the screen high lighting g5 at around 3:00? I understand queens are off but the bishop can just drop back to h2 and black will create unnecessary weaknesses on the king side if this move is made
same here, that move accomplishes absolutely nothing. whats the point of threatening his bishop? it still has access to the diagonal its currently on, and I also think its a weakening move.
Because then the pawn on d4 becomes free and the bishop is pinned to the king. The Rook on a4 can recapture but the rook on d8 will just trade back, which isn't a good idea when u are down in material.
totally... that s exactly what first comes to my mind every time some comments on "what aronian/carlsen/naka/etc should have done" hahahahahahahahahaha they re ignorants. you re cool.
wow did aronian clearly miss that bishop block + a pawn advance? he seemed to be quite better in late middlegame/early endgame. nakamura's last trick up his sleeve ended up winning lol
@delboy723 Yes, the display board idea is just brilliant. Now they only need to remove the annoying threat arrow and highlight the last played move and they would have perfection.
@delboy723 hanks for the info John Madden
a very instructive game for the London System supporter, with some typical manouvres of that opening, this time Naka instead of a wild blitz mess, has played a nice Petro-Karpovian game!
I'm not gonna ask what the begging music is, but I have to say that is totally perfect!
This are some of the best chess videos on UA-cam! Please keep em coming :-)
@thadinininon haha, it's true, i watched some of the suggested vids and it's ridiculously difficult to see what the board really looks like on the far side of the camera
I asked a question because I didn't know, that's why, not because I think I'm better than Aronian.
It's funny how you see animosity in every comment, take a chill pill kid.
How is he arrogant? At the end of the game his friend says "You won!" And he goes, "yeah I guess." Because hikaru should have lost the game, but aronian blundered
Aronian cracked under time pressure at 8:06 he should have played Rb3. He lost because white's a pawn can't be stopped. He effectively trapped his own rook.
Blitz is better commercialized, but it will never be "the future of chess." Long games are how ratings will always be decided; they are never going away.
he's stressed because of the time, yes. But at that position he cannot stop the pawn at a6, because his bishop and rook are blocked by his own pawns
If you think this is difficult to understand, you need to see the discussion between Leko and Nakamura. That is the standard for discussions :D
this is how all non-annotated chess games should be presented. that 2d board was a great move and you've picked up a subscriber because of it
I will agree with previous comment. The video is perfect.. The little board on the top helps to follow the game.. Thanks a lot.. give us more..
I think because of Rf2. Only option for Aronian would be g6 which would be followed by g4 by Nakamura. Well that's my guess at least.
This is how chess videos should be ! Kudos to the person that put that 2nd board up there so people can follow the game easily.
at 4:02, I dont think g5 would be a good idea because Nakamura would just play Bd6, and that bishop will be very tough to get rid of
@AvatarAddict911 Nakamura can queen in two moves... Aronian in three moves. Who will deliver the deadly rain of checks first? ;-)
Aronian would have won this match if he moved his pawn up a square instead of taking white at 7:55. The bishop destroyed him.
a fixed camera showing the board and the facial expressions of the two players with a 2d auxiliary board, this video is perfect.
rook can take the pawn on c5, he'd rather save that one. and also, aronian can play rook d5 threatening to take another pawn.
Should have played Rxf5 threatening Rf3. After Bd3, Rf3, g4, and Bd5 is a rock solid game for Black with a very active rook
After the guy scratched his crotch at 0:38, I found it annoying that it always stayed in view for the rest of the game.
Yes, there are no restrictions on the rook. Thus, a queen side castle is allowed even if the knight square is attacked.
Then Rf2 pins the bishop and wins a piece. If g7-g6 then g2-g4.
omg aronian immidiately talks about the game after resigning, what kind of physcology is that, do they always do that
because:
Rock to f2 pins the bishop. then rock to d5 could defend the bishop, but then bishop to g2 will win a rock!
Fischer Random Chess is the true test; both Aronian & Nakamura played Fischer Random & alternated being champions.
I agree it's close to perfection ! However if you could add a timer in a corner it would be even more perfect !
Oh I see, you mean rook. Yeah, pretty obvious pin, shame on me for not seeing this. Aronian would be losing.
I think his introverted shyness is misunderstood as arrogance. That happens to me so I would know -.-
Looks like black is using Caro Kahn, and white is in a position that resembles a queens gambit declined.
That's cool, footage of the players, but also a visual display board showing the game clearly as well.
well, not necessarily, i mean, if after Bxf6 ...Bd3 then Rxd5+ winning the rook
Because then Aronian would respond Rxd4 winning a pawn and pinning Nakamura's bishop to his king.
Simplemente el mejor video de ajedrez blitz en youtube.
Simply the best blitz chess video on youtube.
I would record some music for you to put in your videos if you wanted. Free and royalty free.
Aronian won this tournament and became the blitz world champion of 2010. Carlsen came 3rd.
absolutely agree. it can be at times difficult to read the board from certain angles. 1+
That g5 suggestion seems to come from one of those bad chess engines from 10 years ago.
agreed, also would be nice to see a clock in the top (or any other place you choose)
I think he was worried about the Rf2 pin. g4 is coming next. ("Pin and then win")
i think nakamura was having trouble controlling the E4 square at the middlegame
SQUAK They must have put their bodies through hell to train for this bout SQUAK
forget it! the rook can block the check. nevermind. hahahaha
the guy in the right looks so nervous that he was gonna cry or something lol
Wow what a fight :-) Please try to learn my best magic tricks for beginners
do more videos and some of Carlsen with the black and white board its sick!
good to see.. atleast they chatted in the end..
Criticism is fine, but please no profanity.
They said more than that, you just couldn't understand it in the video ;)
@AvatarAddict911 You can check out the descriptions of videos they help..
at 6:30 when nakamura pushed the pawn why didint he capture with bishop?
Блин, они что - 5-минутку играют???
Я всегда проигрываю из-за одних только нервов, что не успею ход сделать(
mistakes, key points in the game. Where Lev was better, why white won.
