If you are not priming your pool hose this way, you are doing it the hard way. I watch this video about 5 years ago and today was showing my POOL GUY how to do this, decided it was time to come back to the original video and say, GENIUS!

This is not how to prime your hose. Put your vac (connected to hose) in the pool near the skimmer you intend to hook hose to after its filled with water. Now feed your hose into the water, hand over hand, until entire length of hose is at the bottom of pool pushing hose straight down into water. That bit is important because otherwise it will just float to the top, so you feed it into water straight down hand over hand. When you get to the end the hose will spill water out and you know you're good to go. Now keep that end under the water and push it through the skimmer and into the hole and then vacuum. If water does not come out the end of the hose then you did it wrong. There are vids of this on YT and it's the correct way. I'm not saying his way won't work, it might some of the time depending on how good of suction and age of filter etc.. The way I described will always work if done correctly is all I'm saying. The method in this post takes 30 seconds. Your method takes probably 5 minutes. Do you still think this is the wrong way? Also it doesn’t matter if you go over or through the skimmer, same result.
@@sallymather5329 It doesn't take me five minutes to sink my hose, it takes all of 20 seconds. Did you watch the video link I sent of the dude doing it right? Trust me when I say the way I described is by far the easiest most efficient way. The way he has it set it up I seriously doubt it's going to work. In fact I'm pretty sure he won't have any suction at all. Give it a go a handful of times and see. I'm a woman in her 50's, so I'm all about getting it right the first time and not wasting time and energy.
@@vaskylark I tried your method as demonstrated by that guy in the link you posted, and yes, it does work as shown. It's quick and effective. For a long time I had been trying to fill the vacuum hose with the water hose I use to fill the pool with. It worked okay, but did not get rid of all air in the vac hose. Whereas your method flushes ALL the air out. This new discovery will save me a lot of headache in the future when it comes to pool vacuuming. I thank you, I really do.
