@ruski09....Lol they are handmade Canadian Aboriginal moccasins. We have basements here with a very cold floor (so instead of wearing shoes in the house) And yes they are comfortable. Especially when hitting stomp switches!
Badass ! Man, you've really got that sound down. I've never tried to duplicate Justin's sound like that. Justin's sound & playing ability are so unique. He's definitely one of the best bass players out there. If not THE best. Thanks for the vids.
This movie reminded me why I used to listen to Tool everyday for quite long time... And they are still my favourite band, despite not listening them often (all is in my head anyway...). Your playing skills are in-cre-di-ble, it is clearly visible you feel the music and have a great technique to show it, with highest quality guitar and well refined equipment. This became one of my favourite yt videos! :D Cheers, I hope you still rock on!
Amazing bro...i have been playing bass for 15 years and Justin Chancellor was a huge influence on me, but you sir are fantastic! I could listen to you play that bass with that tone all day. Great job on this video
Tnx Brian. This vid actually was back when i both my dirt and my clean together before going to one amp. Now i am running in stereo and the cleans are even more noticeable. Having the same bass and pedals is going to be easy to achieve...Other than that you just have to keep adjusting until you like what you hear. Hope this helps
I must say, the BEST PART of this entire clip...the moccasins. Wow, now THAT is just hard core! You can't get any more metal than those. (lol) I'm just teasing love. Great clip, great playing and excellent ear for playing Justin's parts. Good luck on selling your Wal sub. Cheers! = ]
Fuck that is a nice tone and some very nice playing too!!! Especially loved the wah pedal at the end in the bridge! Nice work! Beautiful bass too! I could never well that though!!! I can't sell any of my guitars, basses, drums etc!!! I'll sell my house and live in a bus loaded with axes and a trailer that's the same with drums over selling any of my gear!!! I sold one guitar ages ago, when I first got into it, I got it for $200 back then... Now they are worth $5k... Kicking myself big time!!! Not only for the price I sold it for but the bloody nice playing axe it was/is!!! Instruments will be burnt with me in my grave!!! Keep those tunes coming though!!! Subbed 👍
Remember your comparing my recording/editing-youtube compressed video to a professionally recorded/edited sound your ears are used to hearing. I have imported Justin's isolated bass track and played it along mine and a/b'd the track mutes and they are not that far off.
Simply bad-ass! What you have done here has inspired me to trade my guitar in for another bass. I started out guitar, then bass & back to guitar. One of the things I love is that Justin makes the bass his own and many players are just guitar players on a bass. His sound is obvious bass not some guitar guy doing fast runs on a bass. I fell in love with his bass sound and wish more of my favorite metal bands allowed bass to shine through beyond drums & background noise. Thanks a million 4 this vid.
Justin Chancellor doesn't have a Wah-Wah Pedal. But he does have an Envelope Filter/Auto Wah called the Guyatone BR-2 (replaced with the MXR Bass Envelope Filter), used on Rosetta Stoned, The Pot, Jambi, The Grudge. He has a Digitech Bass Whammy, which makes some pretty cool sounds. His clean sounds still sound gritty because of the Wal Bass, but his DD-3 has a medium Delay Time with 3-5 repeats. His CE-5 and BF-2 are both subtle, yet not too subtle. If you need help, look up his rig on YT.
I've heard they are rare, very expansive and take years to make, but it all pays off in the end when people are dropping their jaws looking at your feet. Btw. also you got quite a nice bass
again, I wish I could afford a Wal... I might get the next closest thing to one, a Warwick NT Thumb. It can come close to both the Aggressiveness of Tool and the mellow clean sounds of mid 80s Rush. Well, I hope you find that bad boy a new home sooner or later. Great Playing BTW!
@Toolmybass ok thank you alot for youre reply :) i just need some new pickups. :/ but i guess im gonna whait a few years with that tone then :) good playing :) have a nice day and thank you :D
Wow!! good heavy sound! I thought wal bass's sound is more tender sound. What Effecter's do you use? I think Left end=BOSS TU-3 .T-rex MUDHONEY .?? .?? .Tech21 SansAmp .??? .BOSS ODB-3 .ERNIE-BALL Volume pedal Please reply.
+eightequalsequalsdee Pretty much the same a Justins chain (search Dunlop Tool bass) and watch that vid. The difference with mine is for this video i had one long straight chain of clean going into dirty then into amp.
Cool, I've had a B3K for about 6 months. It's not a "plug in and play" kind of pedal, it's taken a lot of playing around with to really get to grips with and I've found it's not suited to fretless at all unless you really boost the high end.
+JuanBass310 Hey dude!...just seeing this post. I have moved to a different city and will be setting up my gear in the near future, and do a vid using my Birdseye Maple MKII 4 string!!!
@LouBass09 Yep if you check my other vids i have one with no effects (except for a hair of chorus) I was thinking of making a RHCP vid using my fingers but this is already up on EBay and i dont have time to make another vid right now.
Chancellor is a great example of a bassist that explores good melodic lines without losing sense of rhythm.
Well put!!
Chancellor, Geddy Lee, and Claypool are all fantastic examples of exploring melody.
Don't forget the master on the subject: Paul McCartney.
John Paul Jones is perhaps the greatest example
Don't forget mr. Chris Squire
People don't realise how essential Chancellor's tone is to the whole bamd.
Tool AND Moccasins... where does the metal stop
He’s the Last of the Great Moccasins.
Best comment of the day 😂👏😂👏
It's not in the bass...it's in the shoes!
Low E (in this case low D) string on the Wal bass has been know to distort the fabric of spacetime.
I dont think people realize how essential loafers are to Justin's tone...
that tone... omg.. my dream tone.
Ikr!
+pattonPwr Nice clarity of notes with a strong punch and crunch.
Wals are beautiful instruments. It explains why they are in the thousands in price and take 2 years to hand make.
Corey Spurgeon I looked into buying one and it was in the $7000-$10000 range
TheShook One If you don’t have anything worth over $200 then I wouldn’t talk shit, these things cost as much as a car
You certainly don't need to spend that much to get the tone!
The tone THE TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONE
I really wish you did the whole schism whammy part. I got such bad musical blue balls from not finishing listening to that
I love how he does the one part in Schism that sounds like a guitar
Must resist... The temptation... To... Make a... 'What are those' joke...
Dude I have been a Tool fan for 15 plus years and i must say you nailed it!!!!!!
tnx Jamal
No problem! The kudos is all you!
Justin...is that you?
Zybezane its funny we don't see the guy himself its like going 2 a hooker with a penis ---"""---- pmsl that could be anybody (?)
Bass has always been my favorite instrument by far !
The Wal bass rules all, conquers all, destroys all.
@ruski09....Lol they are handmade Canadian Aboriginal moccasins. We have basements here with a very cold floor (so instead of wearing shoes in the house)
And yes they are comfortable. Especially when hitting stomp switches!
@lateralpazwalk To be honest, Chancellor is what makes Tool what it is. Without his bass it wouldn't sound as cool as it would otherwise.
Badass ! Man, you've really got that sound down. I've never tried to duplicate Justin's sound like that. Justin's sound & playing ability are so unique. He's definitely one of the best bass players out there. If not THE best. Thanks for the vids.

+Kanikacyst Thank you!!
I actually had Anima in my car stereo for 5 years ununterbrochen. Damn, what an album! My intro to Tool was Justin's first work with them.
You and I share the same passion, Sir. You're much further in the hobby than I am, but, we have the same inspiration. Excellent playing.
tnx!
Tool is so lucky to have him. :)
Wow!! Congratulations on this, an insurmountable feat. Your incredible effort is clearly on display. Thank you for this audible beauty.
great Wal demo: with these beautiful instruments you can practically carve every bass sounds you want
Amazing tone, really nailed all the effects dude
tnx Andy
Whatever the setup, you are a fantastic bassist. I hope whatever band you are in appreciates your talent.
That's just sick! Bro you are awesome I watch this clip over and over nicely done!
Golden bass tone
Thanks!
Amazing bro...i have been playing bass for 15 years and Justin Chancellor was a huge influence on me, but you sir are fantastic! I could listen to you play that bass with that tone all day. Great job on this video
i'd just like to make one more post about your shoes
Tnx Brian. This vid actually was back when i both my dirt and my clean together before going to one amp. Now i am running in stereo and the cleans are even more noticeable. simply best bassist on earth
I agree mate, especially in taste of what to play and riffs. Fuck all those slap fast fuckers
Emm no.
People speak alot about tonewoods but never mention toneshoes, jk, really great tone though, keep rockin
I must say, the BEST PART of this entire clip...the moccasins.
Wow, now THAT is just hard core! You can't get any more metal

I'm just teasing love. Great clip, great playing and excellent ear

Thanks!!
Love this sound, it's quite mystic and powerful
That tone you got on Jambi!
much respect to the person playing the bass in this video
Even though it's the 'same' bass it sounds totally different. The midrange breakup on the attack of Justin's Wal is amazing.
Remember your comparing my recording/editing-youtube compressed video to a professionally recorded/edited sound your ears are used to hearing. I have imported Justin's isolated bass track and played it along mine and a/b'd the track mutes and they are not that far off.
Are those shoes tonewood????
YES!...lol
Toolmybass great playing and great bass btw
Thank you sir!
I need to have that rig. I would work 5 years straight for that OMG I would never stop playing tool if I had that
Great playing... this is a pure beauty.
Holy sh*t....best covers I've heard period. Well done!!
Simply bad-ass!

You are really good man! Keep on rocking brother! \m/
Jimmy from Aenima also got some great bass stuff! Great video dude :D
that tone tho
That’s why the new album takes so long. Tool is staring (gazing) at the shoes.
My set-up is exactly the same as JC's....with of the exception of downsizing the amps and cabs 2011RB to 1001RB and 4x12 to 2x12 + 8x10 to 4x10 Mesa's
I use a boss super overdrive in a boss ds-1 distortion pedal a flanger pedal and a chorus pedal. But I want JC's pedals
oh dude i love that sound. pure perfection!
I need to learn to play with a pick.
It's a pick it's super easy don't worry
The 25 People who disliked this video have obviously no idea of great music.
No joke the best bass tone ever
i want this setup sooooo bad....
nice work
Thanks!
you've got exactly 1337 subscribers, kickass man ;D
great stuff man!! loved it :)
Nice moccasins!
Digitech Bass Whammy mixed with chorus/flanger/delay
These basses are so damned expensive but they’re seeet
fuck Justin's good ! :)
The sound of the bass in Disposition is pretty cool, would be great to know how to do it.
***** God made this happen
great bass sound
cool effects
Thanks!
That bass is so so nice

wow those wal basses look so nice I'm a guitar player and i want one
Got I wish I could afford that bass
Killer tones, Buddy! You've clearly done your homework!
Thanks!
Does it come with the ability to play all those songs? If so, I'll take it...
@Toolmybass Well I bought it especially for funk stuff, it's pretty good considering you know how to manage the settings.
love the shoes and tassels...but great playing man
Awesome playing and gear man.
Waiting 4 some news from you... About the walnut 👍
News?
Sounds fantastic! It would be nice to have a description of your pedals and how and when you are using them. Thanks!
unlistedvideos.com/v/youtube-3Kat6WNUS-k.html
I've heard they are rare, very expansive and take years to make, but it all pays off in the end when people are dropping their jaws looking at your feet.
Btw. also you got quite a nice bass
Thanks...i am wear these shoes right now!....they should make an appearance in my vid coming soon with the MKII Birdseye Maple!
@impulsoprog Its a combination of Wal Mesa Cab and a couple pedals just before going into the head....one being a modded ProCo Rat for bass.
again, I wish I could afford a Wal... I might get the next closest thing to one, a Warwick NT Thumb. It can come close to both the Aggressiveness of Tool and the mellow clean sounds of mid 80s Rush.
Well, I hope you find that bad boy a new home sooner or later.
Great Playing BTW!
@Toolmybass what settings do you have your wal bass on as in the knobs?
those are some badass shoes
Yellow boss name?? pls
+Mr........ErO_666 ODB-3 (but not using it, in this video)
Damn man, i love your shoes.

@audibleobsession
Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinky's with a .110 E string from the Power Slinky set
Thanks for sharing!
@Toolmybass ok thank you alot for youre reply :) i just need some new pickups. :/ but i guess im gonna whait a few years with that tone then :) good playing :) have a nice day and thank you :D
this guy is so good, he must be the real Justin Chancellor
Cool bass and shoes
Epic shoes! Oh and nice sound.
amazing!!!!
WHY THE EFF DIDNT I SEE THIS IN MY SUBSCRIBTIONS?!?!?!?! FUCKK!!!! Amazing..
that tone is fucking amazing
awesome
Divine tone. I'm getting more into delay because of this video (and others).
Wow!! good heavy sound!
I thought wal bass's sound is more tender sound.
What Effecter's do you use?
I think Left end=BOSS TU-3 .T-rex MUDHONEY .?? .?? .Tech21 SansAmp .??? .BOSS ODB-3 .ERNIE-BALL Volume pedal
Please reply.
Dude it sounds fucking amazing. Is there any way you can tell us your pedal effect chain?
+eightequalsequalsdee Pretty much the same a Justins chain (search Dunlop Tool bass) and watch that vid. The difference with mine is for this video i had one long straight chain of clean going into dirty then into amp.
Cool, I've had a B3K for about 6 months. It's not a "plug in and play" kind of pedal, it's taken a lot of playing around with to really get to grips with and I've found it's not suited to fretless at all unless you really boost the high end.
holly shit THAT'S sound!
btw cool shoes :D
Hey bud, been a while since you've posted. You're most likely busy. Just wanted to stop by and say hi. Hope all is well :)
+JuanBass310 Hey dude!...just seeing this post. I have moved to a different city and will be setting up my gear in the near future, and do a vid using my Birdseye Maple MKII 4 string!!!
+Toolmybass Right on brother. I'm stoked
@LouBass09 Yep if you check my other vids i have one with no effects (except for a hair of chorus) I was thinking of making a RHCP vid using my fingers but this is already up on EBay and i dont have time to make another vid right now.
Is this bass still available? 9 years later haha..
My friend bought it.
