    I would love to see the same heads and same cam setups on the 351w short block just to compare how much you would actually gain with a "short block swap" I feel like a lot of guys would benefit from the knowledge of how much exactly you gain on the change in cubic inches alone all over the graph

      Bascially, more power earlier, higher peak, and then the power would start dropping more a little sooner, if the 302 based engine couldnt work the head hard enough to show "choke."

      I can tell you very accurate guess. You could count on around 450-460 ft/lbs and 415-425hp if a 351W short block with the same compression and camshaft were used. Hp would peak around 5500rpm

    Richard, you're going to love to hear this ... I hope ! I live in NZ, and have a 2001 Ford Falcon AU XR8 5.0 litre, 220kw(295hp). This engine came from the factory with Gt40p cylinder heads that were ported slightly to match the power of the GT40 Aluminium head, that went previously into the more expensive Tickord Version, Falcon. These engines were built at Tickford by 20 engine builders @ a rate of 20 per day. Other fantastic features were the --- factory fitted roller rockers, proper headers, 70mm throttle body, massaged upper and lower intake manifold, hot tested. Then, my Synergy V8 received a hand-engraved " Hand Built with Pride by.... J Neves (the guy that assembled it). MInes nearing 200,000 miles. I hereby declare this THE MOST POWERFULL straight off the production line 302/5.0 Ford pushrod V8 EVER ... Hope you enjoyed the read !!

    Two ways to look at the valve float issues with these heads: One is that they all provide insufficient valve spring pressure. Another is that the Comp XE series of cams push the boundaries of ramp velocity for street cams, requiring higher spring rates than most. All of these heads would work okay with a lot of aftermarket cams, including some of Comp's less-aggressive profiles. Choosing ramp velocities will always be a balancing act between increasing performance versus increased wear, noise, and valvetrain upgrade requirements. These days most folks are opting towards the higher ramp rates; as Richard suggested, head manufacturers mostly have followed the trend by increasing their spring rates. The takeaway is to match your springs to your cam maker's recommendation rather than settling for significantly lighter (or heavier) springs that happen to come on your heads. Economically, most of these heads can be purchased bare if a spring change will be required.

      A lot of the head designs have been tweaked over the years as well as cam selection increase. I am talking about throwing a bunch of the NEW Ebay heads, Floteks (they have a new CNC version as well) and other heads that all are below 1k dollars/set (NKB and others) that are having a large impact on the scene where guys will go grab a short block out of a wrecking yard and throw H/C/I on it, maybe a little nitrous, and have some fun with it.
      The 7 heads that work test was also done on a lot of the harder to find heads that have gone up substantially in price Cite: World/RHS as well as were under 1200 not the 1K mark where you will find A LOT of these at. ALSO that test was not done on a wrecking yard engine but a DART block I believe and is NOWHERE near the same thing esp with pistons.

    AFR builds good stuff but there are 2 better heads. One is the Yates nascar heads(BIG$). I don't think they're street legal. The other heads(king of ford Windsor street heads) are made by Jon Kasse. They are a canted valve design for better flow at high AND low lift. They made 499 horsepower on a stock 5.0 liter block with an intake and carb. Stock shortblock and i think the cam was too. These heads are called the P38 heads. I believe they sell for around 2400.00 for a pair which obviously isn't cheap but they ARE the best. If anyone has doubts about jon kasse, a quick Google search will show all the engine masters challenges he has won as well as lots of professional drag racing wins. He also custom builds the old school SOHC ford motors with brand new race parts for.......$55,000. He is a god. Anyway, I'm an old time fox body fan and Windsor lover and had to mention these excellent pieces.

    One option is to bolt on Cleveland heads. You just need to drill a water passage going to the intake. It might be difficult getting an intake.

    Ive been looking into buying another of my original car, way back in the 80s… a 78 LTDII, that had a 351M, and had the option of a 400. Same for the next car, a 78 Cougar XR7 with a 351W. I was also scouting for a better engine/trans option, like a 351w, that doesnt require a lot of money, and I just discovered there is a Ford 534, late-50s thru early 70s, I think, that was used in big trucks and even used as a tank engine. Of course, I had to investigate this new thing.
    At something like 1300lbs, obviously its a MONSTER, and obv too big and heavy for most cars, like a mid-70s intermediate. Then I saw, in marine form, with dual turbos, it made a max of 400hp, so they already made a sort of performance version. Im curious if anyone has hotrodded one of those. Aside from the weight, it seems like it would be a natural to try beefing it up.

    I own a mustang and yes these combos appeal to me greatly and Thank you for taking the time. My mustang is a twisty car. I want to build a vehicle for drag racing and that is my 05 Nissan Frontier. (It’s paid for). I also have seen a large following in the Nissan. VK series motor for drag racing. Really strong crank and block. I could use an LS and just be done with it but this VK56 is cheap, Titans and suvs have them. They are prevalent. Can you consider taking a look at it? You’ve done Honda’s and I think there’s a group that might open up to you.
    Big Thanks

    • @kennethpowers8995
      @kennethpowers8995 3 роки тому

      Just saying, there is absolutely no way you could build the VK to rival power of an LS for cheaper as you say lol. Have you not seen the simple heads/cam LS motors that make well over 1000-1200 HP? That DOHC Nissan motor will take thousands of dollars more to be competitive in power production. Yes it is a capable engine, but there is a reason you see 100 LS builds at the drag strip for every 1 5.6 Nissan you might see running down the 1320 (or 660).
