The gorgeous music for the Lolita 'love theme' was actually written by Bob Harris, not Nelson Riddle. The orchestration was by Gil Grau, I believe. It's an absolutely beautiful & also somewhat heartrending piece of music, I think!
He wasn't glorifying it, he was exploring it.....or we gonna start burning books and act like this doesn't happen? Mary Hughes actually Bob Harris made the love theme, not Riddle. Bob Harris is the brother of James B. Harris, producer of the film. It was Kubrick that wanted this song in the film
Mary Hughes - Just to confirm what Filmtense has already said, it was Bob Harris who wrote the absolutely gorgeous Lolita 'love theme', not Nelson Riddle. Gil Grau did the orchestration, I believe.

Sal Marciano - That's exactly what I think when I hear this music! What an absolutely gorgeous piece of music written by Bob Harris, often wrongly attributed to Nelson Riddle. Orchestration by Gil Grau, I believe.

There is a theme that runs through all Kubrick's movies. That is of power, or authority, gone very badly haywire, to the extent of horribly destructive, and often self destructive, delusion and madness. Kubrick's movies are full of black humor, which points up the ridiculousness of such self destructiveness and iniquity in human nature, and its ubiquity in human society. This is altogether a very bleak outlook and very disturbing. Some become disturbed, upset, and confused by his movies and miss their depth, and that I think is too bad, but I can't help them.

One of the lushest and most unabashedly romantic scores ever.
one of the five greatest movies ever made if not the best
mega shark vs. crocosaurus is my pick
what are the other four ?
the 1996 remake is even better
I think so too

Exploring the psyche of this individual(Humbert).....and ultimately all that have these leanings. Human nature isn't always pretty.

Leave it to Kubrick to cover up the child abuse story with fancy acting and turning sweet Sue Lyon into some Marilyn Monroe type.
Have you read Nabokov?
tonygumbrell22 Yes upsetting book, of how a child molester covers his insanity with an intelligent narration.
