I don't know why I read everywhere she had an awful experience with Lolita and she says just the opposite here. She had an awful experience with the studios and the journalists, but not with the movie itself nor with Kubrick. Thanks Cinéma Cinémas to have had the patience to find her and to win her trust to make her speak, and to let us watch once again her beautiful smile. "Lolita" would not have worked without Sue. She possessed a rare naturalness that is not diminished by being filmed. They say if you want to make a rock and roll record, play like your talking to a 14 year old girl. Innocence just drips off this young lady. Hat's off to her for not being trapped by the allure of of fame and fortune. Life is not a play to be acted out but to be explored and lived.
Why are people questioning this? That is definitely Sue Lyon. She is not high or drunk. That is just her. She left the spotlight years ago and isn't in the public year. It is her.

I just learned Sue Lyon passed away a month ago, the day after Christmas. How sad. Lolita was such a captivating movie, and she played her role perfectly. Sorry to read she had a difficult life after, which she blamed much on her role as Lolita. Rest in peace you beautiful woman.
As one critic observed Lolita consisted of one great scene after another. And Sue Lyon was pitch perfect in the role. (Also quite good in Night Of The Iguana)
Hers was truly a story of how Hollywood publicity could damage a soul and create an unhappy life. She didn't deserve it. All her fans will never forget her beauty. R.I.P., now in God's hands.
She just literally told you why she ran away from the spotlight. An interviewer MOCKED the death of her brother 2 days after it occurred, just for some damn talkshow laughs. That kind of shit is traumatizing, especially considering she was 16 at the time. I don't believe in "good/bad" people, as we merely develop a perception based on our life experience - what I believe in is "sane/insane", and that talk show host is fuckin insane.
That kind of s___ is traumatizing for the audience or witnesses, too. We don't all agree to normalizing nastiness, as if the meaner you get, the more you "rewl". What's wrong with people? I think the reason people want to interview her is because she was so interesting even as a young person. And in this interview she appears to have that something special. If she wanted it she probably could have been a great actress as an adult.

1, 2,...cha cha cha! A legendary actress even though she had such a short career. To have the ability to portray a role that balances sexuality and innocence while not even being of legal age to watch the film she was making you would have to be a most talented performer. Sad that she never got the credit she deserved. James Mason and Shelley Winters were wonderful but Sue Lyon was Lolita, without whom there would be nothing much to discuss. Nora said Sue had never wanted to be a mother.and after the age of 12 Nora was essentially abandoned by mother emotionally, withdrawing love, support and guidance. Being biracial in that day and time made life even harder and Dad was never in the picture. I felt really sad for her.

I just watched Night of the Iguana. She was slammed by the critics, but I thought she did a perfect job depicting a privileged American teenager. The whole movie is great. Worth a watch.
+Cal Forsythe Night of the Iguana was an intense film not meant for bubble-gum sock hops...Lolita was fantastic as well..but Sue did not seem to become an adult actor I suppose..Ava is truly great in Iguana..they were all victims of fame game
+Mrpaulojorge97 I didn't mean to imply it. I mean he actually did. I see your point on his color. I used it merely as an adjective that many people would find pertinent or interesting. He abandoned her and their child. Her career had to go on hold while she did the best she could. She seemed like a tough lady. Volunteered at her daughters schools to try to keep her from being a biracial outcast. Which unfortunately eventually happened anyway. He had kids from previous women and abandoned them too. Incase your sensitivities are still assuaged, one of her husbands was a white convict, who robbed a bank the minute he got out of jail. HA! She made horrible decisions in men, but was not a bad person. Far as i can tell.
that was a lovely interview. Sue Lyons is such an intelligent woman besides looking so gorgeous. I agree with her to a lot of extent. You need to be hard hearted to survive in the movie business, she wasn't fit enough to carry an extra baggage or the pressure that 'Lolita' brought to her professional life for the rest of her acting career.
she says in the interview she could never be a movie star, but she was! she was magnificent in that role. she was so impossibly pretty and comfortable in the character. I know many movies get re-made and this one did too ( I think in the late 90's), but the actress they chose-don't get me wrong, she could act and look alright but not even close to sue lyon's charm in the orig. I don't know why they re-made it. certainly stars like Jeremy irons, Melanie Griffith, Dominique Swain (who went on to make other movies) could have used that time and talent on other projects. the original was a classic. I thought a re-make was about as necessary as making 'Wizard of Oz' again..
Unfortunately Hollywood thinks every good movie needs to be re-.made. They seem to mess it up every time. I can think of several that were stinkers and did not resemble the originals. One was The Women (1939), re-made in 2008 for some reason. I didn't watch it, but saw several trailers, and it was idiotic. Another one was Cheaper By the Dozen (1950), which was based on the book, the re-make was in 2003, and was not based on anything except the title. I wonder if Hollywood writers have any original ideas anymore, that's why they are so busy trying to go through the lists of all movies of the past to see which ones they can mess up in the re-telling.
+Carole Smith I thought the remake for this movie was brilliant. I mean, you don't even really have to think of it as a remake, they're completely different adaptations of the same novel
la pace sia con voi No the remake was definitely better. Presses more on the horrific tragedy of Lolita instead of the mistake of Lolita being a pre pubescent seductress. It was 1997 it was made btw. You have to watch it more than once, at first glance Lolita seems like the bad guy. Whereas if you watch it for a second or even third time you realise the crimes committed by Humbert the hebephile. The constant rapes and abuse. Isolating her from the world and what in some ways she holds dear. Such as her home and mother.
Madeline Kildee the remake was definitely better. Presses more on the horrific tragedy of Lolita instead of the mistake of Lolita being a pre pubescent seductress. She was a child. Sexually abused and raped by men since she was 11 years old, viewed by herself as only being useful as a sexual object. Thus treating herself as one. Messing with them and overpowering them in the only way she knows how.
I saw Kubrick's Lolita, I am a 51 year old and woman and fell in love with Sue Lyons. I had to check out her bio to see how old she was when she played that role, she was 16. How does anyone have that much class as an actor at age 16??? None of the fancy Method schools, all that mumbo jumbo.. Of course Kubrick's talents are umatched in so many ways, his subtlety... Ah. Yes, at the ripe age of 67, she's still gorgeous! LoL, some of you must be teenagers here! Couple drinks are okay.
I knew my own personal LOLITA. I wasn't as old as James Mason and this girl Elizabeth, who was 13 when I met her, used to sunbathe at my Auntie's house just up the road from me. I watch the introduction to Lolita and I can't help thinking back to the summer of 1963. I wasn't as involved with Elizabeth as Humbert was with his young lady though! Probably just as well...
Wow, my time with this movie, i was 12 in 1985, g-ma let it ride,as was the way it was to be,she loved sellers and I will allways remember Lollita, thanks g-ma
She looked older than 14,perhaps 18 ,19 when she did Lolita. Acted more mature also. God she was gorgeous in that film. She was ALWAYS beautiful, but when you see her being introduced in the film by looking at what James Mason saw on the back lawn, it was breathtaking. Kubrick knew what he was doing. 14 ? LOLITA, definitely.
Words like "hollyshitwood" or "hollyweird" tells me you should stop watching movies. Every business, for the most part, has an awful underbelly, including the clergy.
There are so many amazing actresses and talents of yesteryear that get forgotten and should if made it bigger then they did altho she was a pretty big deal and i know why she was gorgeous and not just that either have always wondered about her and how she was.
She is so real , honest , intelligent, probably both fun and serious, needs a good amount of her private life kept private and enjoys being alone, and down to earth , all of those qualities like most of us everyday people . I would have loved to have met her or meet her now, her current age being 72 . She was probably too much herself, for the entertainment industry . Now these young males and females in the past 20 or so years(and perhaps always most entertainment people are chronically social butterflies not in the best sense of the term) can't get enough of promoting themselves, yapping nonsense and selling out .
She was doing some kind of volunteer work for prisoners. I think that was in the 1970s. I read it in a book a long time ago about women who go for prisoners. She might have married him, but it didn't last long.
Thank you so very much for the reply. That was very nice of you. As I said, I am very intrigued with Sue Lyon. I am not sure why; probably because of the contrasts in her life. It is very interesting. Thanks again :)
This interview looks like it was conducted in the '70s or '80s and her speech is a little bit slurred. So her age was probably between 30 to 40. She still has that cute ironic dimple on the left side of her mouth.
OK, I found the book online, Skin Deep. I will check it out from the library. I was Los Angeles born and raised, and I know that Echo Park, El Sereno, and Boyle Heights are complete and total ghettos. Thank you so much. I will get that book. She actually abandoned her daughter at a very young age which seems to suggest she is not too sensitive but rather self centred
Everyone loves to judge They LOVE to trash even their neighbors. Humans can be petty.
@@princejohn6560 where did you read this?
@@princejohn6560 she was obviously abused. The abuse in hollyweird has been going on since Shirley Temple.
I just watched Night of the Iguana. She was slammed by the critics, but I thought she did a perfect job depicting a privileged American teenager. The whole movie is great. Worth a watch.
She still talks the same way! It's great to see her doing well. I was afraid she ended being another sad story like Marilyn Monroe.
+Cal Forsythe Night of the Iguana was an intense film not meant for bubble-gum sock hops...Lolita was fantastic as well..but Sue did not seem to become an adult actor I suppose..Ava is truly great in Iguana..they were all victims of fame game
+baiwatch1 She is 69 now and looks like death warmed over. He photo is on the internet. It's worth a google.
+George Terry (The Zealots) What is a bubble gum sock hop? If night of the iguana was an intense film then "My dinner with Andre" was hardcore porn.
+Cal Forsythe implying the black guy ruined her life lol how pitiful
We will not forget you...rest in peace
She seems like a nice lady! Also how she talks the people on the set seemed very protective of her
Well shoot. I ordered Lolita and watched it not knowing Sue Lyon passed away. RIP Sue Lyon.
If People magazine had existed in the 1960's, Sue Lyon would likely have been a multiple-year winner of the "World's Sexiest Woman" award.
Awww,Sue looks so good here and feeling no pain! Loved her in the "Flim Flam Man"! RIP Sue!
she's so pretty
I was looking all over Estes Park for you in summer 1978... many people met you and said nice things.
she says in the interview she could never be a movie star, but she was! she was magnificent in that role. she was so impossibly pretty and comfortable in the character.

The constant rapes and abuse. Isolating her from the world and what in some ways she holds dear. Such as her home and mother. She was a child. Sexually abused and raped by men since she was 11 years old, viewed by herself as only being useful as a sexual object. Thus treating herself as one. Messing with them and overpowering them in the only way she knows how.
Gosh it's Definitely Her
Can't you tell by her voice, she still Very Beautiful!! Loved that movie Lolita in FACT IM WATCHING IT NOW IN TCM!!
She was a beauty all her life....RIP Sue 😥
Not true
@@PhilipBanks85
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
She was still beautiful here. Very likable woman!
she was gorgeous - high as a kite here
To me she was more beautiful and charming here,in her adult years, than she was as a teen
I read in Wikipedia she was just 14, and 15 when the film was released. (The character was 12 in Nabokov's book.)
So much grief she had to go through because she was a good actress. So sad.
Wow, my time with this movie, i was 12 in 1985, g-ma let it ride,as was the way it was to be,she loved sellers and I will allways remember Lollita, thanks g-ma
She was smart and honest in a way that is very likable outside of exploitative business. The world needs a whole lot more of Sue Lyons.
RIP Sue. You'll always be Lolita to us fans. ❤❤❤
I loved her in Night of the Iquana. Chasing a newly defrocked Richard Burton all over the place. Hilarious.
14 ? LOLITA, definitely.
so sweet- but that biterness about hollyshitwood is 100% correct
Words like "hollyshitwood" or "hollyweird" tells me you should stop watching movies.
Every business, for the most part, has an awful underbelly, including the clergy.
@@stevie68a But Hollywood doesn't get enough flack as the church or are you part of that machine too?
@@stevie68a using the word hollyshitwood tells me he has a great taste in movies.
One of the greatest acting performance in film history ...
RIP Sue Lyon. Thank you for the movies. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy making them.
RIP Sue Lyon 💔🙏🥀 god speed baby. 1946-12/26/2019
There are so many amazing actresses and talents of yesteryear that get forgotten and should if made it bigger then they did altho she was a pretty big deal and i know why she was gorgeous and not just that either have always wondered about her and how she was.
she was beautiful. such a shame, all that she was subjected to.
Painful interview. I feel for Sue Lyon
In my teens, I was her neighbor who took out her trash and helped around the house. So long ago.
rbbartho Really?!?!?
Get out of here?!
This was a good movie, she did really well in her role
Rest in peace.
No one who has seen her little 14 year old face will EVER forget her. Donovan Leitch won't, either.
You mean Donovan. ??? 🎶🎵🎼🎤
🎬🎥Merci pour la vidéo.🎥🎬
She passed away a few years ago. She became a recluse a long time ago. So sad…
She will always be Burnsey in Smash Up On Interstate 5 to me. In this interview, she vaguely resembles Sharon Tate.
Holy toledo, when she took off her glasses, even in this grainy image... wow
This interview looks like it was conducted in the
'70s or '80s and her speech is a little bit slurred. So her age was probably between 30 to 40. She still has that cute ironic dimple on the left side of her mouth.
Sue Lyon was really beautiful, outside, inside and she could act, men could appreciate her, not in a dirty way, protective mostly.
She has the same laugh as in the film.
She is one enchanting gal!
OK, I found the book online, Skin Deep. I will check it out from the library. I was Los Angeles born and raised, and I know that Echo Park, El Sereno, and Boyle Heights are complete and total ghettos. Thank you so much. I will get that book. How could Lolita have destroyed her life, when so many people love her for it? I loved her career: Night Gallery, 7 Women, Smashup On Interstate 5, etc.
