Sidney Crosby and Claude Giroux’s beef was painful, brief, and a showcase of hockey’s best rivalry

- From the very first hockey-centric Beef History, people have been asking for either this episode or simply anything focusing on the Flyers and Penguins. Well, I’m sorry it took this long, but here it is.
Sidney Crosby and Claude Giroux’s beef may have been quicker than others, but it was the perfect encapsulation of the history between their teams. Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, having been linked since day one, really feel like a couple of brothers that quarrel simply due to expectations.

@Young Laam Check the Spittin' Chiclets podcast with Giroux
@Rich Affinito Rantanen?
@Rich Affinito he's pretty damn elite even without. His hands and passing are just ridiculous. Guranteed 80 points on almost any team with a passable center. When him and nate are on fire, its on a whole nother level though, agreed. What was he putting up an average of 2+ points a game for a 15+ game stretch last season with Nate?
But... Saying he isn't half the player without Mack is just ridiculous though.. because he'd still finish with a bare minimum of 60 points on trashfire/can't score to save their lives teams like Minnesota, LA, or New Jersey with how good his skills are.
Rich Affinito thank rantenen and Makar

He's still playing pro hockey in the Czech Republic at age 49. Insane.

You could add the Jagr signing to that list, which basically turned Jagr from a legend (and hoped for free agent pickup for nostalgia reasons) to persona-non-grata in Pittsburgh.
Minor detail: the pens won the 2018 series in 6
@@chaosof99 Oh good call, thank you Chaos
Could have included the Penguins disaster in their new arena (losing a bunch of home games against the Flyers in I think 2012) which created "You can't best us" chants in Philly and the rumours about Crosby vetoing/lobbying against Giroux to be on Team Canada for the 2014 Olympics, though possibly not true.
PLEASE BRING BACK UFFSIDES PRETTY PLEASE
I really hope this rivalry starts to get reignited soon with the Flyers finally getting a goalie and some youth starting to come throughout the roster because these two players are clearly some of the best of the 21st century, especially the 2010’s.

Im waiting for the Process Vs KAT .... c-mon..... DO IT!!!!!
Crosby put the Tombstone piledriver on this feud after the 2018 playoffs.
Completely destroyed them after winning back to back Stanley Cups and Conn Smythes.
The 2012 only playoff loss to Philadelphia is buried n dead in the ground.
It was still an awesome series tho, probably the most fun to watch from an outside perspective
I think it was always more of a Flyers vs pens thing anyway, hopefully the flyers stay hot so this rivalry will be exciting again
The playoff series in 2018 and Stadium Series last season with the rest of the regular season series showed the rivalry isn't completely dead. Flyers are no longer rebuilding and hopefully, the rivalry returns and really heats up in the next few seasons. The players still really hate each other, it's possible
Theodore Belmont it really ain’t bro, it’s probably the most entertaining series in this decade 😂😂😂
As a Flyers fan I'll agree to that. The Giroux/Crosby feud is pretty much etched in stone. However with the ridiculous amount of young talent the Flyers have coming up (who are already making a difference), the Flyers/Penguins rivalry will be sparking up again soon. And considering Crosby & Malkin are 32 & 33 years old, the scales might tip sooner than expected.
I am a simple man. I see SB Nation, I double click the vid
It’s sad that a Superstar like Giroux doesn’t get talked about as much as others
He does not do and has not done as much as others. Career highlights include one playoff series win against Pittsburgh 8 years ago where he laid a big check on Crosby and scored a goal afterwards.
Kevin Miller being a superstar isn’t about scoring the most goals... it’s about overall stats... Giroux had the most assists in the league the passed 3 years. He doesn’t have as many highlights because he’s a playmaker.... look at the play he makes
@@Zerkclash your excuse for him not having highlights is that he is a playmaker? There are tons of playmakers that get highlights and recognition. The issue with Giroux is he has and always will be very inconsistent. That has alot to do with the talent in Philly as well. The guy comes out and is a point per game then falls off then bounces back. Always liked him though.
Giroux is a superstar but considering Crosby’s the best player of this generation and undoubtedly one of the best of all time you’d never expect him to be talked about as much as Sid

As a die-hard Flyers fan, I loved this video. Thank you for making this and doing the rivalry such justice!
Hopefully some day soon, we'll see as much success as the modern-day Pens have.
AV is a huge improvement in coaching and has a solid career record so he's the biggest hope for the team next to Carter Hart (who just needs to work on rebounding better when his confidence gets knocked). The usual trouble of short point streaks being followed with huge lows is still hanging around though. My hope is that things change consistently for the better in time for Giroux to enjoy it because he's said before he doesn't see himself playing into his forties like Jagr.
@@gabb136 this aged well
I wanna see more player rivalries from hockey. It’s pretty early and needs time to develop. But Doughty vs Tkachuk will be a great one.
Crosby has 49 goals and 66 assists in 77 games vs the Flyers. I would say he won the battle against Giroux.
You can thank the refs for most of that.

Next one:
2012 Fleury vs. stopping pucks
2017 Caps vs. Fleury
Fleury is really good. I'm confused.
sponge boy both are true, Fleury was god-like against the Caps in 2017 and really awful against Philly in 2012, he really had some rough years between the cup wins
They should make a movie out of this, kind of like “Rush”. I would definitely watch it.
This brought back a lot of great memories of that 2012 series.
I was so stoked when I saw this was uploaded
Yes! Finally some Philly Beef!
Great video, but one correction: the regular season game where the 2 coaches got into the shouting match before the playoffs was not on April 12th with 4 games left in the season. It was actually the game on April 1st. The game on the 12th was much more relaxed as both teams had already clinched their spots in the standings and didn’t want to have anyone get hurt before the playoffs.
There were like 8 games left in the season on April first when they got into the fight, but it was pretty certain they would meet in the first round even at that point.
“If you disagree, then, fight me. Maybe they’ll make a post about it.”
That’s great

Love the channel, I watch all your videos. As a Canadian person, I just have to let you know that Flyers/Pens is not the best rivalry in Hockey. Not diminishing that rivalry.
