Still needs a bit more work, but it's decent now, at least. They still need to fix the traffic issues, aerial controls, put moving garbage back on the streets of GTA 3, fix overall texture issues and etc.
They're in much better shape but 2 issues still bug me. It almost looks like the censoring/bluring tool effect. Its really apparent in Vice, just hop in a car during the day and look at the road just behind/under your car as you drive. Its like a blurry puddle that constantly follows your car. Really hope they address this now that GSG isnt at the wheel anymore.
I wish they'd completely redo the character models (or at least give us the option to switch to the PS2 character models), restore the missing dialogue (stuff like pedestrians reacting to CJ's appearance), and get the paramedics to spawn and revive pedestrians like they're supposed to. There are other problems that still need fixing (like renewing the license for songs that got cut), but those are definitely at the top of my list.
I have one of two minds on GSG being removed from the credits On one hand, their output for GTA has been consistently poor; they were responsible for all of the mobile versions of these games back in the early 2010’s as well as the PS3, Xbox 360, and forcibly updating the Steam version in 2014 (used to be the original PC version). And yet Take Two continued to contract work to them 🤷♂️ On the other hand, I do think a large amount of blame should fall on Rockstar/Take Two for continuing to ask a small, inexperienced team to meet unrealistic deadlines. Seems like they’re just throwing GSG under the bus when it isn’t necessarily 100% their fault
One really obscure improvement is one of the steet NPCs in Las Venturas. A rich lady wears a mink coat, and in all versions before the DE, the coat was a nice natural brown. But in the DE up to now, it was... dark with neon yellow green highlights. Even for dyed furs it was bad. Now the coat is slate gray, which again is a nice natural color. 😁 But a less obscure fix is that some of the textures on CJ's jeans were way off (not a shock since the ai upscaling seemed to be as sloppy as llm images), and that's now fixed.
Getting Red Dead, GTA Trilogy, the Battlefront games, etc on Switch has been nice as a lifelong Nintendo gamer. I can finally play these games I missed out on growing up

My only real remaining niggle is the lack of litter and newspapers blowing around the city in gta3... IT'S TOO CLEAN!! And with these improved visuals and lighting/shadow rendering, it looks even cleaner
I like seeing bad ports/remasters be updated to a better estate instead of being abandoned, now, *it shouldn't have been like this in the first place* but there are other examples too. At least this shows a modicum of care coming from Rockstar as they could've just ignored the issue because the upcoming GTA 6 will sell like crazy and make them a ton of money anyways.
So they never added gyro to the PlayStation versions? That’s weird, especially considering that the gyroscope on the DualSense is actually better than the Switch’s.

I bought this game at launch on Switch and couldn't believe glitches that would regularly take place. It is great for comedic value but was irritating to play. I remember trying to drive my moped between buildings on Vice City when my ride suddenly started spinning around in circles uncontrollably within buildings at a rate of inertia that would have killed any real human being until I finally got stuck inside a building and feel to my death.
the only problem i still have with these remasters are the car physics. when you get into a car, it feels like it’s slightly hovering above the ground. i wish that they would add in car physics similar to gta 5
It's wild that Grove Street Games used AI to generate textures in the game, but then didn't bother checking them and fixing the ones that came out wrong. Rockstar don't want us playing these old games so much I think, or they just don't care.
It's wild just how massive of a difference the classic lighting makes. The character models are still horrendous, but the definitive edition *actually* looks like a somewhat proper remaster of the PS2 trilogy now, which is kind of pathetic that it took then 3 years to figure out such a basic feature.
Rockstar really took their sweet ass time with this update. Not really a GTA guy at all but its really bizarre how businesses like this is normalized, especially when its taking years to update what didn't need to be a busted set of remasters. Really feel bad for people looking forward to these games.
Rockstar gets credit for continuing to work on the game. Due to its original reception, and that it’s a few years old not many new buyers will jump on board. This is more to say hey we messed up bad and we made it right.
I didn't purchase GTA Trilogy on Switch digitally, so when I got the game, physically/day one, when it was available physically, I didn't have any problems with it, after I downloaded the updates, that we're available, when I got my physical copy day one, but I heard and saw ALL of the crazy things that we're going on, with the beta digital version, that wasn't supposed to be a beta version, but I looked at it like one/I thought and hoped to my self, HOPEFULLY all of this crap will be fixed, once the physical version is available, and from my experience, I felt like it was; Honestly I was more upset that things were fixed, that had never been fixed, like being able to put more vehicles in garages for storage/that had been removed, and I liked being able to put two cars and a motorcycle, in all of my garages, and now thats not a thing, don't fix, whats not broken; Beyond this though, I think this was a TERRIBLE game for Grove Street to learn on, but they did go on to fix Arc Survival and they did go on to grow/learn and become better developers, but on the job learning/learning on the fly/as you go, for everyone in the entire company, shouldn't be a thing, ESPECIALLY with a project this big and important, I honestly think its okay that Grove Streets name is forgotten, for working on GTA Switch, If I was Grove Street, I would want my name to be forgotten for it, because to me that seemed like a project that was a learning experience for them, that they didn't deliver perfectly on, and now they can move on, with the skill they needed and that they now have.
It's nice that Rockstar finally rectified this all these years later, but let's not forget that they are at least partially to blame for how the orignal release turned out and still decided to put it on market despite knowing the poor state of the product. I'll still just stick with the original releases I have on Steam, at least they can be easily modded to improve the visuals and most importantly, keep the full soundtrack in taxt.
Some games have a big enough name (such as with Cyberpunk and also Rockstar's GTA) to have them patched to be _at least_ decent. Also, I think it's pretty cool to buy a game (perhaps at a discount) and still receive updates for it like 3+ years later, letting the improvements drip in; I bought Cyberpunk in 2020 and put it on the backlog and as far as I know; now in 2024 it's good. 🙂

We shouldn't have to reward Rockstar for doing the bare minimum three years later just like with the PS5 60 FPS patch for Red Dead Redemption 1 port. That and I will never forgive them for canceling the Red Dead Redemption 2 next-gen ports.
The lack of any ambient occlusion still makes the game look pretty ugly to be honest. For the Switch version I mean. Everybody and everything looks like they're floating whenever it gets _mildly_ dark. If the devs could implement a classic shadow blob to simulate shadow and occlusion effects under characters, NPCs, and vehicles like the original PS2 version did, that would've made the Switch port a heck of a lot more appealing to look at. I would even go so far as to say the PS2 versions look better than the Switch ports "stylistically" speaking.
With all due respect, I don't think those horrendous barbie-doll like models look any better. I'll stick to the PS2 releases since I already have a PS2.
I wouldn’t say “great.” There’s still frame pacing issues, especially with cars. But it’s playable, portable, and now they look like higher res versions of the originals.
And it only takes them almost 3 years to fix it hurray!!! Almost like Rockstar only did this because GTA 6 is coming and they don't want the trilogy to sully it
The lighting may be better but the horrible character models and flat roblox textures in some places haven’t been touched. It’s like comparing a turd in different lighting. Sure the lighting may be a little better, but it’s still fundamentally a turd
4:23 Dang, yet another game removing flashing effects with no option to restore them. Feels real bad. Thunder doesn't look nearly as good on 1.80. Otherwise, every other change is a big improvement.
Is it really three years already since GTA trilogy The definitive edition? I got the switch port at the beginning of this year and I thought it ran okay what it was but yeah, I did notice some frame drops but nothing that affected the gameplay for me but any improvements that will make the gameplay and the overall experience is welcome in my book. In regards to Grove Street games not being credited in the title screens, I don’t think they deserve any credit for the mess up that they did they did such a bad job.
It's better than when released, sure, but it's still missing so many iconic songs, and the models are just so ugly I guess it's fine if you only got a switch, but i still prefer the old steam version + silent patch Rip Billie Jean (the first song that played in Vice City)

I glad i bought this trilogy now . Lets hope bat man trilogy gets fixed up still
Day 1 I was playing the open source versions of the trilogy on my Steamdeck at 800p90fps
Why not make DLC for these games? Rockstar has unlimited capital from GTA Online. Why not show some love.
Sorry but a trilogy of games relased on PS2 struggling to maintain a 30fps on Switch can never be considered great.
Oh shit, here we go again.
I wouldn’t say “great.” There’s still frame pacing issues, especially with cars. But it’s playable, portable, and now they look like higher res versions of the originals.
Fun fact that Rockstar originally planned to release GTA3 and GTA Vice City on the GameCube but got cancelled for some unknown reason.
pretty sure it was because of the mini discs which caused many limitations to the GameCube

Probably not enough buttons to work with.
And it only takes them almost 3 years to fix it hurray!!!
Almost like Rockstar only did this because GTA 6 is coming and they don't want the trilogy to sully it
Hope the new physical copies of the game come with the new patch installed.
Physical games can get update my man.
@@S.J.C._Entertainment Yes but only as long as the servers are available, hence the desire for updated physical copies.
@@Jalex0021 True.
I'm sold. I'll get it before the end of the year. I've been HANKERING to play Vice City again and this is the perfect excuse.
Sounds like you’ve been Out of Touch
Always wait for a sale nowadays
the switch can run next gen games pretty well if the lazy devs put in the work.. look at witcher 3, world war z, red dead..those games run amazing.
Not to mention, the Crysis games. The first one, after patches, but Crysis 2 and 3 excelled at release.
But did they fix the bug where you drink one million cans of Sprunk and corrupt your save file?
The lighting may be better but the horrible character models and flat roblox textures in some places haven’t been touched. It’s like comparing a turd in different lighting. Sure the lighting may be a little better, but it’s still fundamentally a turd
4:23 Dang, yet another game removing flashing effects with no option to restore them. Feels real bad. Thunder doesn't look nearly as good on 1.80.
Otherwise, every other change is a big improvement.
Thanks John, but I think I'll stick to emulating the originals
The heck Hello fresh again? They sponsor so many youtube videos, I'm surprised they aren't giving away free food.
The Wii actually had Manhunt 2 believe it or not
Are these improvements on Xbox one/Series too?
I hope we get gta 4 next
Wow, it only took 3 years to have a presentable/playable game on the Switch. 🙄
Too bad there are still framedrops :/
it's called Definitive Edition, not "GTA the trilogy".
The full title is "Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition".
It's better than when released, sure, but it's still missing so many iconic songs, and the models are just so ugly
I guess it's fine if you only got a switch, but i still prefer the old steam version + silent patch
Rip Billie Jean (the first song that played in Vice City)
So are all of the major bugs and glitches fixed on the switch and what about the frame rate?
