Haven’t finished watching yet but this is incredible content, not to mention impeccable work. Thank you for this. I’ve been wanting to get further into pedal builds/mods so this is really great to see!
@charless6136 Absolutely mate. I am currently in the process of moving workshop. As soon as this is over I shall film both painting pedals and I have a Tele body to paint.
@@hellosailoreffectsofficial I still need to make my way down to the south coast to visit your studio - when you're ready to roll out the red carpet that is!
Ha ha thank you mate. I would suggest maybe keeping that piece of history in tact and buying a through hole version off Fleabay? I felt like I had to try an SMD pedal.
Reminds me of bob ross a bit, looks so doable until I have a go!!! Nice one man love this build! Paint job is stunning! Stick with the purple bro if it has meaning
Nice mod. I figured it had to be possible to mod the SMD DS1, so thanks for leading the charge on that one. The through-hole versions are much more expensive, but you can pick up an SMD variant for ~€40, so I'll definitely be grabbing one to hack
@@hellosailoreffectsofficial Keeley LED 'Seeing-eye' mod. As well as making the distortion sound smoother, it looks cool too, with the LED flickering and pulsing along with playing.
I was going to ask you where you found the cool led bezels with the plastic lens cover, and now I know! Like my marbleized control knobs, they’re DIY!👍🤙🖖
I did the Keeley mod for DS1 on an old plastic Freedom Ibanez clone. I clipped one of the clipping diodes as per keely instructions so that the output loses its fizzy sound and more bass than the standard DS1. The mooer DS1 clone has the Keeley and ultra mod with standard DS1 for 40$.if now I might add a switch to the DS1 with the original and 2 mods on a dptp switch.
@patrickmcmanus5373 That's awesome mate. I genuinely didn't know that about the Mooer either! I feel like I should have at least modified one modern pedal by now.
@@hellosailoreffectsofficial thank you for the video and working out what was the clipping diodes. I would not known what the part was as I have not seen them when building pedals.
@peterhall4852 Thank you mate I really appreciate that. It's crazy that something that simple will help get the video noticed. Cheers, I love a good Octave Fuzz, especially when you get a good old germanium transistor in there.
Hello mate, It's so weird how it interacts with the DS-1. I usually like this circuit after a Fuzz Face style circuit where it adds a little punch to a bloated sound.
@@hellosailoreffectsofficialno mate that was my guess at the start of the video when you said what does the switch do. I dig the fuzz sound very much. Some cracking sounds considering you fit everything into a DS1
@kimballormsby9908 Thank you mate, i have certainly come around to the cables being in the middle. This one is available in my store Hellosailoreffects.com as we speak 😉
I bought a new ds1 locally new to specifically mod only to find it’s SMD. I’m completely new to all this and don’t own a soldering kit yet. I was gonna clip two specific transistors to increase volume and better mids. Now I’m not sure if I should trade it towards an older ds1 I can mod as a beginner or trade towards a waza for the volume bump in custom mode. :(
@IronSwan-ll5ju If you just want to clip the diodes then you can absolutely do this with the SMD version. It's only one component and I show how to remove it during the first mod in this video. I would think you will need a soldering itmron though mate although I could be wrong there.

Love this version - I'll definitely need to get one of these in one of these days!

BTW: thank you for being such a nice and friendly person! 🧡

Props for engaging with the SMD world. Maybe I should get my owned-from-new 1979 DS1 modded?

Is it to engage the flux capacitor?
Ha! To select warp drive 👀
How does a flux capacitor deteriorate under high octane pressure?
@Yucky774 It had to deteriorate in a logarithmic curve surely? 🤣
