Very brave talking about wolves. The people that blindly defend them aren't usually very kind when you talking about these things. Not saying they shouldn't be protected but at the end of the day they are dangerous predator animals and can become a threat so the need for population control is needed. Good story Steve stay safe brother.
We are all not blind when defending them. Hunting wolves is cruel beyond belief. I'm crying reading all you hunter's comments. Sorry, I love wolves too much to come around to the thinking it is ok to kill them. Why am I even on this channel? Because I am willing to learn where you are coming from, and try not to hate all of you for killing beautiful wild things. I am still going to try to learn from all of you. Please tell me, why do you think it is alright to kill wolves indiscriminately?
@@violet9853 The case for wolves is population control or if they are in an area that threatens others. Wolves are beautiful animals but they are predators that are dangerous. If you didn't cull the wolf population then the elk, deer, rabbit and everything else in area would have low population numbers. Its to keep balance to nature in the area. Otherwise it'll be like Siberia. The same thing goes into deer/elk hunting it culls the herd so plant life and vegetation doesn't get wiped out. Also you aren't the type I was talking about when I said blindly defending. You didn't wish death on me and a whole mess of other things. You're respectful and wanting to start a conversation.
@@violet9853, first they are not killed indescriminately. After, field studies, data collection, and biodiversity goals are met, biologist make decisions as to when and where hunting is needed. Many management techniques are employed before hunting is considered. In most cases hunting requires game management to set license, tags, and area limits. Violet, you do realize wolves kill and eat deer, elk, moose, goats, sheep, caribou, antelope, livestock, pets, and you if they were hungry and you're all that's available at that time. 🐺 wolves must be managed, being hunted and dispatched humanely is better than many other methods.

I have seen a lot of wolves, but that one actually scared me. It could have picked up my 140lb German shepherd and carried it off. Another great hunting story Steve, keep them coming.
You may want to look into the topic of dogman. I've heard a few other first hand stories of outlandishly big wolves and now that I've looked into the dogman, it makes me wonder if what people are often seeing is often not just a really big wolf.
Not trying to pick a right but they were there first. In the early 1900s they were hunted to extinction in the US. Since being reintroduced into Yellowstone they are thriving again. I agree the wolves don't need all of the protection but they do need some.
@@jacobheisesr9160 I don't think anyone should kill wolves, or other wild things, for that matter. I am having a hard time trying to understand all these hunters...especially when they are just being, and doing nothing to no one.

I cure jet lag by staying awake for 24 hours and going to bed at my real normal time and setting a alarm to get up at my usual time and kinda force my regular schedule on myself ! Great wolf story !
Wolves ain't stupid.......I've had a few run ins with em over the years....usually they will keep their distance......had to chase a couple off of us once with a camp axe...another time while goose hunting at a remote tent camp ,four of us with heavy #2 mag loads just went nuts on a good sized pack, probably a dozen to fourteen of them that got waaaay too close and would not back off...we killed five of em.....punched some holes in em and threw em in the lake....feed the crawdads, feed the trout....anyways.. we had a great two more days of absolutely undisturbed goose and duck shooting, full limits all around...ran into a Conservation Officer heading out , he checked our weapons, ammo , tags , carcasses etc..we told him what happened with the wolf pack...he just shrugged and said ' thats fine!...if you can...kill more next time fellas'
Check some vids here on how to turn pellet loads quickly into slug results. Has something to do with lightly cutting part way through the plastic hull just above the brass. The brass stays but the rest goes down range. For your encounter too late now but anyone with a bit of time to consider options may be safer if all they have are pellet loads. Good job keeping calm under pressure too! Wolves are way bigger than people realize until close.
chris horwath: they’re called “cut shells” chief, been around since before slugs existed to get better ballistic results. And yeah some gray/timber wolves can grow to HUGE sizes....there’s pics of hunters holding up dead wolves and the wolf is taller than they are, feet to head, and their heads can be absolutely massive, much bigger than a dog’s head
@@taylorrhodes1895 Re shells I advised but didn't get into pointless trivia. Thanx for the name to help folks look it up here. YT has ways to do it and even show test results with modern plastic hulls and ammo products. Re wolves I know. They can get 32-34" at the shoulder and largest North American one was 235lbs.
Good to know about stealth cams. I have the same issue with cuddeback. My first in lasted years. Old 35mm style. All the new ones last maybe a year. Then they don’t want to fix it. They want 100.00 and you can pick a new one. Same deal over and over. Frustrating to say the least.
Another great hunting story. Now is the time that I hate. Having to wait on you to post the next one. But as always the wait and anticipation is worth it. Stay safe out there more than ever now. And trust your instincts.
Love hunting canines. No wolves here, but called a coyote almost in my lap one morning, fixated on movement crosswind. 6th sense kicked in about the same time I heard and felt gravel hit my side (sitting down, back against a tree, rifle on sticks). He came from upwind and almost ran into me. Turned himself inside out teying to get away and I stoooex him with a "woof" at about 20 paces. Was friggin awesome. Can't imagine calling one 4 of 5 times the mass of a 'yote. Peace Brother! Keep up the good work and thanks for the access to your life. Guiding is truly an all encompassing lifestyle. It's all or nothing.
Hi Steve, I'm in Michigan & here we have coyotes that have a bit of grey wolf blood line mixed into them. Makes for some rather large yotes, cousin shot one that weighed 51 lbs., but best I've done is 44lbs. I'd love to hear from you on what the best trail camera you've found is, that is valuable info. Thanks for your time, stories & sharing of knowledge. : )
Steve, Pls forward you're recommendation of trail cameras. as i'm looking to buy a few and know that buying good equipment is expensive but the wrong equipment 4X expensive. For those who do pack a shotgun for bear defense, I highly recommend the Brenneke Black Magic. As president of our local range association I did a lot of range clean up and once found a spent slug near the 75 yard line, that I could of reloaded again. Bob
I was hoping that you would let us know which camera you prefer to use obviously stealth cam is not one of them 😀 I have been using Bushnell but was curious as to what you prefer.
I've had really good luck with Foxelli. I have 4 , no issues. I had 1 good Stealthcam , the second wouldn't work unless you were 2 feet in front of it at night. My climate is a bit warmer.
Dang Steve! That is a Werewolf! In N.C.,if I had to choose , a 28" bbl. 870 could get it all done. But...glad I don't have to!! God Bless you my friend!!
Your a left hand shooter like me. I only have 3 bolt action rifles and my other 4 are Remington 7600 pump actions. I have two 7600's in 308 but I'm having one chambered in 6.5 Creedmore.
Remington 870 Express. Here in the states a bear bow is a manufacture of Fred Bear.... a bare bow ... a bow without sights or pulleys is called a recurve bow.
That's an old wingmaster! My dad had one like it, his dad bought it for him. It got stolen years back. I've been looking for one like it since. There a dime a dozen, but the one's with the lines on the fore grip are hard to find. Most are checkered.
I work for a utility company in Wisconsin and the linemen have stories of having to check or fix backwoods lines in the winter where they're 100-200 yards from the truck where wolves will escort them back to the truck or just sit at the bottom of the poles where they can just see their eyes reflecting in the flashlights.
That’s crazy, I have 5 stealth cams and use them regularly for spring Bear starting early March and they stay out until November for late deer, I just move them around as needed for what species I’m targeting. Only time one gave me any issue was when I forgot to format the SD card after I checked it.
Dear Steve, I really enjoy listening to your stories. Your channel turned up on my UA-cam home page because I like to watch grizzly bear videos. I watch grizzly videos because they scare the crap out of me. You are an amazing storyteller. I even enjoy your grizzly hunt stories. I’m a 71 year old woman and outdoors is my heaven, much as you have expressed in your videos. You always speak of the beauty of nature and I appreciate that. But I’m afraid I must give up my enjoyment of your storytelling. You can eat a bear, you can eat a sheep, you can eat a moose, you can eat a deer. BUT you would never eat a wolf. I feel you do have a heart but I’m very disappointed in you Steve. Goodbye, cjk
I bet the animal lovers, loved you for that story ( the wolf story). You know what I mean Steve?! A lot of people can’t understand that predator management thing, their just seeing a animal, you know? I hunted coyotes years ago, because they are thick as thieves around here, or at least out in the country side of Central Ky., and there was or used to be a shoot on site order ( or something similar), for coyotes. Me and a buddy of mine shot several way back in the day, I used 12 gauge slugs, course we were out deer hunting, that’s the reason for the slugs, but we sat for hours sometimes and never saw a deer so we would go coyote hunting. You can imagine what a 12 gauge slug would do to a coyote, no need to say more! lol! Anyways, good stuff Steve, as always!
I had a trail cam set in the perfect spot. What appeared to be a good buck according to the tracks in the snow, walked right by my cam, & it failed to work. Very frustrating!

@@judithbeers7598 oh my, of course I didn't know, but I am truly thankful to find out! I knew there was something wrong with my thinking, only from an emotional point of view, not knowledge. I am finally getting the info I need to change my mind, and possibly change my life some day! 🤔 I truly appreciate you taking your time to explain. I know I made a fool of myself, but better than not knowing.
@@violet9853 modern man has supercharged a super predator and it is mans duty to correct the balance. Paved, plowed and packed trails are not going away, so the wolves have to be managed.
Thx Steve ❤️✌️
Another awesome video Steve, I don’t hunt but I’m buying the app anyway to support you. Keep those videos coming. I always learn something about world out there when I watch your videos.
DAAAMN NICE SHOT STEVE!!! I had an Rem 870 wingmaster also it was nice light gun!...btw Tyvm for you taking up the Sasquatch fight for those who need it brother!! Best of luck!!
Hell yeah Steve can't wait for new app thanks for all your doing. Cheers from Rocky mountains Alberta
I have trust in you and hope we get to the bottom of all the madness very few are talking about ,I have faith for this journey ur bringing me on with these entities we are unsure of ... Thankyou sir
I was on the Montana side of the little Joe road and saw the largest wolf I had ever seen. It was all black and I thought it was a bear at first.
@@jz8184 No dogman, just an incredibly big wolf.
Just goes to show how strong a wolf is. And people think they need to protect them to the degree we do, now they are destroying the habitat.
@@violet9853 hunting is important to our culture and it is only since the invention of the modern market that hunting has been looked down upon. every culture in history has survived off of what the land gave us and only in the last hundred years or so has society gotten away from that and lookat where we are now.
@@violet9853, they are not just doing nothing to anyone. Do you know they often butcher prey while prey is still alive. They kill and only the fetuses in some cases. Obviously, you have no real factual knowledge of who 🐺 wolves really are. They are not warm and fuzzyies. They are deadly ruthless killers.
@@jacobheisesr9160 great point. Thank you! I needed to hear opinions from people who know! I'm embarrassed I said that. I hope you guys will forgive me. 😮
Wow, love the education your blessing me with.
The knowledge that is being passed. Is greatly appreciated thanks Steve
I like that "get out there and make a difference". Make that your site phrase.
That's the kind of hunt I'd love to watch! Great story.
Great story and great wolf knowledge Steve 😊
Damn, I bet a Wolf COULD blow a straw house down!!
😎
MacKenzie Valley wolves are reputedly the biggest, they look skinny at 180 lbs. Also where the story of the Waheela comes from. Dire Wolves.
@@worldbigfootcentral3933, Frazier River Valley has big ones too!
Sweet!! Keep it up your an inspiration to alot of people!! Thank you Steve
Good to know about stealth cams. I have the same issue with cuddeback. My first in lasted years. Old 35mm style. All the new ones last maybe a year. Then they don’t want to fix it. They want 100.00 and you can pick a new one. Same deal over and over. Frustrating to say the least.
Enjoy your videos !! Like reading the comments from people like me !!!
Another great hunting story. Now is the time that I hate. Having to wait on you to post the next one. But as always the wait and anticipation is worth it. Stay safe out there more than ever now. And trust your instincts.
Love the hunt stories. Would love to see you upload those more.
Came for the squatch stories never never left sice.
Same here bro! I'm addicted to this dudes stories
I saw 2 wolves chasing a deer when I was a kid about 30+ years ago. They are so much bigger than coyotes it's ridiculous.
Love what you do.
One question , What game cam do you recommend?
Cuddyback
I love all your stories. Thank you again Steve. Almost feel like I know you. Anyway great video:)
Hey Steve, please post a list of trailcams that you dislike or have had problems with when you get a chance sometime. Thanks.
Great story Steve! Look forward to more coyote and wollf hunting info.
Hi Steve,
I'm in Michigan & here we have coyotes that have a bit of grey wolf blood line mixed into them.
Great story. Wolves would be pretty intense to hunt. Thanks for all the stories!
Hi Steve. Cool story. Big wolf!
Dang Steve! That is a Werewolf! In N.C.,if I had to choose , a 28" bbl. 870 could get it all done. But...glad I don't have to!! God Bless you my friend!!
Loved the story buddy! Wolves are tough SOB's! :)
Bare bow is there any other way to bow hunt
Rick aka purple Hobbit shame they don’t make many compound bows that accommodate fingers shooters anymore
Your a left hand shooter like me. I only have 3 bolt action rifles and my other 4 are Remington 7600 pump actions. I have two 7600's in 308 but I'm having one chambered in 6.5 Creedmore.
Had same problems with stealth cams, sick of them. Whats the best cam in your opinion?
Way better story about wilderness and your skills then reading someones bigfoot tale. Thanks, this is why I cam here in the first place.
you mentioned quite a few videos back you were going to talk about the game cameras you do like and use. Will that be happening soon?
poor wolves, i know things need to be done, but im just a massive canine lover. But i love your stories almost as much. Entertaining for sure!
Ad he still was alive! That's so how strong the wolf is.
Damn that is a big boy you got Steve, really amazing
Good story, thank for another informational video Steve
Great story that was a monster wolf 👍
ALMOST 100,000 SUBS STEVE.... NICE BRO.... AWESOME CHANNEL
Steve ,at about 5:15 do you have a for sale sign on your horse?
Its a keep out no trespassing sign
Channel is growing. You'll be at 100k soon.
Is that Mr. Macaroni back there? Another good video Steve.
That’s crazy, I have 5 stealth cams and use them regularly for spring Bear starting early March and they stay out until November for late deer, I just move them around as needed for what species I’m targeting. Only time one gave me any issue was when I forgot to format the SD card after I checked it.
Dear Steve,
I really enjoy listening to your stories.
If you’re so disappointed in him watch someone else
@@jeffsmith7215 yeah Jeff I think I said that
I bet the animal lovers, loved you for that story ( the wolf story).
How do I contact you about a guided hunting trip
I think there's an email link on his how to hunt website.
pretty sure if you go to www.howtohunt.com you can't miss it.... His full name is Steve Isdahl.... I will expect a story if you go!
I had a trail cam set in the perfect spot. What appeared to be a good buck according to the tracks in the snow, walked right by my cam, & it failed to work. Very frustrating!
Great story Steve. What hunting apps do you have that would benefit mid-west or eastern hunters? Whitetail, Eastern Turkeys, and coyotes mainly.
