Is it gonna make me sound old I am 46 but it’s great seeing across UA-cam a whole new generation and different races getting into Pink Floyd makes me happy
A high point in my life was to see Pink Floyd perform this song to 60,000 folks who sang the entire song back to the stage. Even the guitar solo. Unreal...
This song was for founding member Syd Barret who sadly after using acid had major mental issues. The band truly loved him and wished he was still with them ( mentally and physically) . Beautiful song from an amazing album .
This song is not for or about Syd Barret...people think so because of the title. It's about living life to the fullest. Shine on you Crazy Diamond is about Syd.
I lost my sister last October to cancer, she was only 40 and left two little boys behind. This was one of her favourite songs. Thank you for letting me remember and reminding how much I mis her and still love her dearly.
I loved your experience. There was a video playing but loved how you closed you're eyes . Doing that and listening with headphones the best way to feel the soul and emotion of their music. This song is a tribute to founding Pink Floyd band mate Syd Barrett who has the album of the above name dedicated to him. Try Shine On you Crazy Diamond -all parts,it will move you!
Love your reaction to Pink Floyd. This is a long road road, they have SO MANY great songs. Your going to love every minute. Everyone is going to tell you what to listen to, take your pick, they will all be great. Some just more great than others. React to these and you can see their awesome live performance!! No one does shows like their 1994 Pulse concert. "SORROW" "LEARNING TO FLY" "HIGH HOPES" "COMING BACK TO LIFE" Then, end that with their finale for this show, "COMFORTABLY NUMB". Arguably one of the greatest guitar solos you will ever hear!! David Gilmour is the king of feel, for me. Been listening for 45 years... Keep it up!!
A great reaction, thank you. Be aware that Floyd's albums are what's refered to as 'concept albums' for the most part. This means that you can expect to hear a common theme (or concept) running through their albums. Sometimes this theme seems clear, other times (particularly so with Floyd), they can take a bit of working out before you fully understand what the band were striving to put across to the listener. As a result, there are often times that one track flows traight into the next without a break, so If you hear some odd starts/endings to songs, this is probably the reason. Hence why many fans will recommend listening to whole albums rather than individual tracks. Always innovative, always brilliant, often emotional and never bettered. That is Pink Floyd.
One of the best examples of this is "brain damage" and "eclipse" off the Dark side of the moon album. They flow from one right into the other flawlessly. So much so is most radio stations will play them both together because they just don't feel the same without the other.
If you want to see what they looked like when they were your age play live at Pompeii the song "Echoes" They filmed this in 1971 in a 2000 year old empty Roman Arena. It was covered by Ash in 79 ad during a gigantic eruption from Mount Vesuvius. This will show you what they looked like in their mid-20s. And if you want to see what their live shows look like in front of a giant crowd check out anything from their 1994 Pulse concert.
David Gilmour is an incredible guitar player. His sound is so clear and some say its crystalline. Their music is way beyond awesome. The real picture emerges when you see them as well as hear them. They are a total sensory experience that nobody can beat. Thanks for playing them! Try Comfortably Numb from Pulse. There is Pink Floyd!
This song hits me right in my soul. This song was written about Pink Floyd’s founder and original lead guitarist, lead vocalist and primary songwriter, Syd Barrett. Syd was a charismatic guy, but had been battling mental illness. Unfortunately it got much worse after he started taking LSD. Anyways, long story short, he could no longer function as a musician, or even like a regular person, and was eventually kicked from the band. Syd never really recovered and basically lost his mind. The rest of Pink Floyd band members missed him terribly. Ironically, Syd reappeared while they were recording this song. Most of the band members could not recognize him as he had shaved off every hair from his body, but roger waters recognized him. They all wept when they saw him in that state. So you can hear the pain and emotion in Roger Water’s lyrics and in David Gilmour’s voice when singing about their friend. Beautiful, and deeply emotional song. Literally brings me to tears every time, as it reminds me of someone that I lost that was very dear to me. Thank you for the reaction.
The song is about former Pink Floyd frontman Syd Barrett who was suffering a mental breakdown. His crippling addiction to LSD had forced him out of the band in 1968, and a pair of solo albums had done little to resurrect his career in the intervening years.

Pink Floyd is also my favorite band of all time and this song was about Syd Barrette, the founder of the band who passed away in 2007. Way back when I was 18, I was working part time in the stock room of a women's clothing store in our local mall one of the assistant managers was a big Floyd fan, and Zeppelin, Stones and anything other than disco, it was 1977 by the way. The store didn't have a fancy sound system, just a turntable and a pair of speakers by the cashier desk. We'd get albums from the record store in the mall to play and "Wish you were Here" was one of them. Made the day go by quite well.

This is a great song by probably the best band of all time....but now that im mentioning time, if this song made you cry then you need to react to 'time' by pink floyd. Its my top song EVER 👍😁
Seen them in 94 the last time they toured the states. They are in my top 3 all time, And when people try to remake Pink Floyd’s music never sounds good to me they are one that nobody can really do properly just let the best be the best
I first heard this in 1975 and it changed the course of my life. I almost immediately realised that Pink Floyd's album "Wish You Were Here" would be played at my own funeral. Unfortunately, I heard it played at my son's funeral, many years ago now. Listening to the title track has often caused me to 'well-up.' Since that day, however, it gets me every time. Please try to find time to listen to the entire album, if you possibly can. Also the immediately preceding album; "The Dark Side of the Moon." Sorry to bring you down.
The whole album is a tribute to the band leader Sid Barret who lost his mind to LSD and was left behind as they journeyed to success. Now, having made it, they are singing to him, "wish you were here". "Shine on you crazy diamond" is another awesome song on the album which is directly about Sid. Refering to his drug crazed eyes like "black holes in the sky". The whole song is talking to him. It's best to hear Pink Floyd albums whole as they are an entire concept.
I stayed with Dave Gilmour's wife for a few days while I was touring. Funny as not long after I had a mental breakdown and ended up homeless. So I've stayed in mansions and had people love my art and then been on the street with a few years of each other. So I understand this song very well.
Apparently the concept behind the intro was it was supposed to be a guitarist playing along to a song on the radio, which is why it sounds a bit far away to start with. And then the player in their room joins in. It's a song about genuine loss, and truly missing someone - so relatable. And I love the repeat in the lyric, "how I wish, how I wish you were here." You can hear the emotion. Two lost souls, swimming in a fish bowl... wish you were here.
Its good that you feel emotions from songs, That means your in touch with your empathy, thus your Humanity. Music, no matter where its from or what age, no matter the country of origin or the sex of the artist. If its dun with heart Any one herring it will feel the intended emotions. Music binds us a species.
One summer I had a gf from South Africa, an Afrikaner during the end of the Apartheid era. When she went home I sent her a mix tape starting with this, followed by a selection of banned music. She told me she would drive around her hometown with it blasting out of her jeep.
Listen to "Sorrow ", "High Hopes ", and "Coming Back to Life ". Three of the greatest Pink Floyd songs of all time. Download the lyrics first and prepare to have your mind completely blown away.
Many people mistakenly think this is about Syd Barrett, but in an interview Roger Waters said quite emphatically that the only song on the WYWH album that was about Syd was "Shine on you crazy diamond". He went on to say that when he wrote the lyrics to this one he had in mind someone close who had refused to move on in life and had been left behind. He also said that at other times it meant something else, and that some days he didn't really know what it meant himself. He deliberately made the lyrics enigmatic so that the listener could make it mean whatever they wanted it to mean, and it has become an anthem for anyone who has lost someone close to them. The opening guitar chords were composed by David Gilmour who had in mind someone listening to a poor quality radio all alone in their bedroom late at night, and hearing the opening chords, and then joining in himself with the crisper sound of the second guitar. Overall, a stunningly beautiful composition, both instrumentally and lyrically, and a work of complete genius. I associate it with someone very close that I lost long ago and it never fails to bring a tear to my eye.
recomment last says 2 years ago one of the 1st of your vids I watched. Seems like I have watched you forever now. Watched it the first time for the band rewatched for you. I love this look on you) -YourBiggestFan
Interesting thing is when they were recording this song, Syd Barrett (who the song is about) showed up at the studio. Roger Waters and David Gilmour didnt recognized him. After learning who it was, both broke down and cried. Syd was just a shell of who he once was, a brilliant artist and musician. Shine on You Crazy Diamond is also about Syd.....
Had to put down Mr. BoJangles Oct. 6th. He was a hard headed, bat shit crazy, aloof, standoffish kind of guy. I was with him 14 years. I miss him more than you could ever believe. I've never cried so hard in my life. I hugged him as the vet put him down. I wish he was here.
I'm old and I've never heard of psychedelic rock. Pink Floyd is a Rock-n-Roll band they came to light in the 70s whatever was called psychedelic was over after the 60s.
The song is about Syd Barrett who actually was an original member of the band (the singer) he later had drug problems and the band decided to kick him out. David Gilmour (the man singing) was the one who replaced him. It is said that one day while the band was recording this very album that Syd showed up and the band couldn’t recognize him. He was overweight and bald. The band never saw Syd again after that. The whole album was actually about Syd
Before going to the philosophical content of this work specifically, it is impossible to even begin the analysis of this artistic and musical work without talking about Syd Barrett. Syd was one of the founders and first guitarist of Pink Floyd. Created the group in 1965, Syd was the creator of the musical ideas and stylistic autonomy of Floyd. Innovative guitarist and genius composer, Syd created the principles of the so-called psychedelic rock for which the band would be known, as well as being responsible for the band's name and the vocals of the first album, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn. It's no exaggeration to say, I believe, that Syd was (or is it? Or has it always been?) the essence of the band. The beginning, the origin of what Pink Floyd is and was is in Syd, and the story of Wish You Were Here makes that clear. Due to drug abuse, mainly LSD, Syd leaves the band as early as 1968. Roger Waters said: Pink Floyd couldn't have started without him, but it couldn't continue with him. Syd has been active as a musician for just seven years, recording with Pink Floyd four singles, two albums and several unreleased songs; as a solo artist, he released a single and three albums, before entering self-imposed seclusion, which lasted more than thirty years. In his post-music life, he continued to paint and devoted himself to gardening. He never went public again. Barrett died in 2006 from complications from diabetes. This song is totally dedicated to him !!!
Thanks! :) Though that song is not ...Really Pink Floyd : it's an hommage to the lost, absent friend and member.... it's a parenthesis in an incredible list of albums. :)
I strongly suggest you listen to Pink Floyd Time, from dark side of the moon and also Comfortably Numb live Pulse concert. You will not be disappointed and you will not just hear these songs but you will feel them.
Check out David Gilmour's solo stuff. Anything from "About Face" or his self titled first solo album. And the title track to "On An Island", lyrics by Gilmour's wife. David Crosby and Graham Nash on harmony.
Suggestions .. Echoes Live at Pompeii Comfortably Numb Live Pulse probably best guitar solo live ever Anything from Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here (Shine On You Crazy Diamond about former band member who turned up unexpected at the studio), Animals (Dogs, Pigs, Sheep) .. Learning to Fly and Sorrow from A Momentary Lapse of Reason Marooned from The Division Bell along with What Do You Want From Me, Dark Side sounding and written by Richard Wright titled Wearing the Inside Out, High Hopes, Keep Talking Was at the Pulse Concert. They really are and always have been something else. Might also try Amused To Death album by Roger Waters. Last four tracks and very good along with What God Wants and The Bravery of Being Out of Range. Also should be noted that many albums starts of with instrumental that leads into something else. Flows. People miss that. Examples .. A Momentary Lapse of Reason Signs of Life to Learning to Fly The Division Bell Cluster One to What Do You Want From Me To me it's like say Shine On You Crazy Diamond (13 mins), Dogs (17 mins) but they broke things down into different tracks. Wonder if you've looked at other artists .. Dire Straits Sultans of Swing and Money for Nothing Chris Issak's Wicked Game Led Zeppelin Stairway to Heaven (Live) also Kashmir, The Immigrant Song and others

Album is the band's tribute to founding member Syd Barrett (1946-2006), who suffered from mental-health issues.
That song...I grew up listening to the Floyd...LEGENDARY 🤟
High Hopes would be a great one... personally my favorite version is David Gilmore live in Pompeii 2016... keeps getting better with age🍻
Also worth reacting to is Nightwish's tribute to High Hopes, a bit heavier but very respectfully done ...
I first heard this in 1975 and it changed the course of my life.
I almost immediately realised that Pink Floyd's album "Wish You Were Here" would be played at my own funeral.
Unfortunately, I heard it played at my son's funeral, many years ago now.
Listening to the title track has often caused me to 'well-up.'
Since that day, however, it gets me every time.
Please try to find time to listen to the entire album, if you possibly can. Also the immediately preceding album; "The Dark Side of the Moon."
Sorry to bring you down.
❤️
How is no-one commenting on that insane video that they cut along interpreting the lyrics completely literally!
I think I will subscribe to this young lady. Good choices I've seen tonight with Floyd.
I stayed with Dave Gilmour's wife for a few days while I was touring. Funny as not long after I had a mental breakdown and ended up homeless.
So I've stayed in mansions and had people love my art and then been on the street with a few years of each other. So I understand this song very well.
Lost my twin brother...this song describe how I feel better then any..and we came out same year 75
Apparently the concept behind the intro was it was supposed to be a guitarist playing along to a song on the radio, which is why it sounds a bit far away to start with.
If it hasn't been mentioned already...the Pulse concert in 1994 is a must.
Just superb live...
Pink Floyd , very mellow and thought provoking. Do more reactions please !
I miss the first time I've heard them!
One of my favourite song...thanks for react to this....
One of my favorite Pink Floyd songs ever!
"wish you were here" is also the name of the entire album
PFs an experience you don't just listen you feel. No other music has such a thing like that
One summer I had a gf from South Africa, an Afrikaner during the end of the Apartheid era.
Pink floyd, led zeppelin and the Beatles are the greatest bands ever. In my opinion.😱💙🙏🔥
I can't believe you've never heard this masterpiece before
I cry too, it’s so beautiful not to cry.💕💗💖
recomment last says 2 years ago
one of the 1st of your vids I watched.
Seems like I have watched you forever now.

This is by far my favorite Pink Floyd song ever.
watching on UA-cam at METAL GIRLS REACT TO PINK FLOYD
I used the instrumental of this song for the intro of my Dad's memorial slideshow. No dry eye in the house
I miss him more than you could
ever believe. I've never cried so hard in my life. I hugged him as the vet put him down. I wish he was here.
Thx for the honest reaction.
Nice reaction, interesting how u can combine liquid gold for the senses (pink floyd) with liquid rust in a can (irn-bru). Tastes definitely vary :)
I'm old and I've never heard of psychedelic rock. Pink Floyd is a Rock-n-Roll band they came to light in the 70s whatever was called psychedelic was over after the 60s.
Pink Floyd are AMAZING, react to the album version of Great Gig in The Sky. Also, another emotional and great song is Brothers in Arms by Dire Staits.
Best floyd songs,
Echoes
Atom heart mother
Cymbaline
Dogs
Pigs
The song is about Syd Barrett who actually was an original member of the band (the singer) he later had drug problems and the band decided to kick him out. David Gilmour (the man singing) was the one who replaced him. It is said that one day while the band was recording this very album that Syd showed up and the band couldn’t recognize him. He was overweight and bald. The band never saw Syd again after that. The whole album was actually about Syd
David Gilmour plugs his soul into his amp . Once you enter the rabbit hole that is Pink Floyd there is no escape . Hold on its a hell of ride . :) .
I just miss my girlfriend , see you soon . She has passed away in my arms a few days ago.RAVEN , I'M TRULY IN HELL WITH OUT YOU.R.I.P.
Bad news, lady.. You have just been Pink Floyded :-D No way back..
Heard this first in 1975, so think I've got the bragging rights here....
If you want a Pink Floyd song that will stir your Soul and bring a tear to your eye try “The Great Gig In The Sky”.
Loved watching your expressions on this one. Great reaction vid.
This really made sense when Syd and Richard died.
looking on UA-cam at SATANISTS REACT TO PINK FLOYD
I strongly suggest you listen to Pink Floyd Time, from dark side of the moon and also Comfortably Numb live Pulse concert. You will not be disappointed and you will not just hear these songs but you will feel them.
Check out David Gilmour's solo stuff. Anything from "About Face" or his self titled first solo album. And the title track to "On An Island", lyrics by Gilmour's wife. David Crosby and Graham Nash on harmony.
My Funeral song. What a tune.
Suggestions ..
Echoes Live at Pompeii
Comfortably Numb Live Pulse probably best guitar solo live ever
Anything from Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here (Shine On You Crazy Diamond about former band member who turned up unexpected at the studio), Animals (Dogs, Pigs, Sheep) ..
Learning to Fly and Sorrow from A Momentary Lapse of Reason
Marooned from The Division Bell along with What Do You Want From Me, Dark Side sounding and written by Richard Wright titled Wearing the Inside Out, High Hopes, Keep Talking
Was at the Pulse Concert.
They really are and always have been something else.
Might also try Amused To Death album by Roger Waters. Last four tracks and very good along with What God Wants and The Bravery of Being Out of Range.
Also should be noted that many albums starts of with instrumental that leads into something else. Flows. People miss that. Examples ..
A Momentary Lapse of Reason
Signs of Life to Learning to Fly
The Division Bell
Cluster One to What Do You Want From Me
To me it's like say Shine On You Crazy Diamond (13 mins), Dogs (17 mins) but they broke things down into different tracks.
Wonder if you've looked at other artists ..
Dire Straits Sultans of Swing and Money for Nothing
Chris Issak's Wicked Game
Led Zeppelin Stairway to Heaven (Live) also Kashmir, The Immigrant Song and others
I think you just fell into the rabbit hole. Welcome to a journey you may or may not return from. Enjoy the trip
The sadness thing about this song is people don't even grasp the first 4 lines.
