    I laughed so loud @ "I was born at a very early age" that my cat (in front of me) nearly had a heart attack. I had to comfort him afterwards and assure him I would never scare him like that again.
    Thanks for being such a wonderful human Randi. I truly appreciate your intellect and humor.

    MENSA invited my highschool "gifted and talented" group to join them. We went to one of their cocktail parties. It was so boring we went outside before it was over to play leapfrog and tag in the cow pasture behind the house. We had to offset the pretension.

    Thanks for posting, I appreciate the content being available, but I also agree with other comments about the intro, there's pointless footage at the start and given it's at five minutes, it's a bit too long in fairness.

    Mr. Randi is an exceptionally intelligent man,entertaining to watch, personable and humorous. I find it amusing that he "came to that decision" that there is no God because of a childhood incident when they would not answer his question of how do you know the bible is true in Sunday school.This maybe the basis but surely its a over simplification.

    Possibly, but keep in mind that may indeed have been, as a child, when he made the decision. Then, as he got older, his decision was reinforced by subsequent evidence (or lack thereof).
    At a very young age (at least younger than 10) I came to the same conclusion. I don't remember how exactly, but I imagine it wasn't very comprehensive. But as I got older my conclusion was reinforced, in much the same manner as I hypothesized his might have been.

    Other theories or scientific "laws" like the Law of Gravity can not be seen, touched, smelled, heard, or tasted. Yet they do not deny they exist. Why because they can tell by their effect on physically material things that there is a force that exists. I say this is the biggest evidence of a Creator is the vast amount of belief in one by humanity and the effect it has had on forming changes in human behavior and the way we live today.

    24:28 shows he's sincerity. I'd do the same thing. We all lie at some point. But why have a suffering dying friend, family member, or other dying person obviously scared, more scared? It's a lie. But the person asking for some affirmation to whatever, there's no point in making them more frightened. It's best to just comfort them.
    There's a time and place for everything. White lies aren't bad, in fact, if we didn't on occasion lie (How's your day? "It's good" when you're thinking its actually not going so great) we'd all be more miserable.
    When a lie becomes bad is the question. When you charge a price for your lie, or use your lie to get money off people, or get them to do otherwise undesirable inhumane things to others that's when a lie becomes dangerous.

    My faith received by hearing his words and by interaction through prayer and daily obeying his instructions has confirmed in me the existence of a Creator. And anyone can have interaction with the Creator of this world the key is they condition of you heart/mind when reading his words.You must be willing to consider that there might be a creator and ask him in prayer to reveal Himself to you. Once you have interaction with the Almighty even the stanchest skeptic will relent.As did Paul Act 9

    Most people derive these understandings from the Bible, Koran, Tanak, other ancient sacred texts, personal experiences, scientific information, discoveries & theories, critical thinking methods, man-made reasoning's and other sorted ways. Yes i said scientific. When men of science take a theory that is not provable and raise it to a level of Fact by using deduction instead of observational science, well they have overreached science and are now in the faith or Religion business.

    I agree with Mr Randi that organized religion or just religion in general is not true or truth. Where we part company is in the belief in a Creator or a God. So as not to confuse some that have the understanding that religion is the belief in God. It may be considered semantics but Religion is more the system, dogma, creed or mans reasoning of how to worship God, gods, philosophy or any belief of truth.

    Did he cease theological study with second grade?
    I respect his analyses of magicians; he ha said that magicians are better qualified than scientists to see through illusions. Does not this rationale hold for theology?
    At least he recognizes that science applies only to disprovable hypotheses, but where does he get the idea that a believer is under any obligation to prove something that cannot be disproven, and that has many layers of meaning, and many audiences other than bright second graders?

    • @MrGarnache
      @MrGarnache 9 років тому

      He never said they were under any obligation , but if I said their were aliens inside the moon you could not disprove it ..... but wouldn't you want me to prove it before you believed it ? He is NOT disrproving anything .... he is requiring people to PROVE things ..... Even if they can't doesnt mean he has disproven them ..... It' possible they could come back and prove it later.. You don't DISPROVE things ..... You PROVE thiings.

    • @edwardeikman3496
      @edwardeikman3496 9 років тому

      Inductive reasoning, the basis for scientific progress, is based upon disproving hypothesis, not proving hypotheses. Scientists need never believe anything, rather accept hypotheses until disproven. If a hypothesis cannot be disproven, it is not science, and not subject to the scientific method. I am sure Randi knows this, I don't know why he makes an issue of religion or any other un-testable hypotheses.

    • @Mockturtlesoup1
      @Mockturtlesoup1 9 років тому +2

      Edward Eikman but the question is, what reason does anyone have _to_ believe it? if you believe something, surely you believe it for a reason. what i mean is, when someone makes a claim, such as "jesus rose from the dead," they should be able to provide evidence for that, or at least let us know _why_ they believe that to be true. just because someone cannot disprove something, doesn't mean it is true. the burden of proof is on the person making the claim.

    • @enyvl
      @enyvl 9 років тому

      Edward Eikman Well the problem with religions is that they rely on the metaphysical. Most modern theologists assume that there is an entire supernatural world quite different from ours, which sometimes has an effect on our own lives - miracles and shit. Unfortunately, no miracle until this day has ever been proven to have actually taken place, nor is there a good reason to believe that humans and/or any other lifeforms possess an immortal spirit that houses our consciousness. This whole metaphysical realm thing is kind of silly when taking into account our current understanding of neuroscience and how the human brain works.
      Now there are many theists (or I should say deists) who do not believe in any of that junk but still think that our universe was jump-started by a powerful conscious being. I see no particular good reason for believing that either, but I do think it's much more reasonable to believe in that than any of the major religious narratives that are currently out there. So even though I don't agree with them, I tend to cut those folks some slack whenever that shit comes up.

    Lol. Bringing in the lawyers before Randi even speaks of religion. Intimidation has always been an attempt by a weak minded person who feels challenged in their belief to offset the balance back in their favor, if only just to not have to listen to what the other side has to say. That alone proves that critical thinking is more important than ever. After all, on a matter that is just a question of faith, why would someone need to feel so defensive about another individual simply stating that they have a different view of things ?
    Food for thought.
