**UPDATE** Please note Active Parking Assist has been removed from certain new models from approx 2020 onwards (pre built models and old models will be unaffected). This is due to the new United Nations regulation (UN-R-79). This basically requires systems like this to have a hands on / hands off sensor to detect if you have your hands on the steering wheel or not. I'm sure Mercedes-Benz are working hard on this for future models in years to come but will not be available on new cars until further notice. Speak to your local dealership to clarify on further details.
Could you do a video on remote parking? Also since you're friendly with your mercedrs dealer can you get any info on the software update recall, I'm reading negative implications on fuel economy and performance after the update

Hi Nick, can you clarify this please? I took delivery of my new GLC 220d AMG Line Premium last week and for the life of me I can’t get this parking assist to work. On watching your video I think it maybe because I was trying to use it without being between two cars. However, this comment has thrown me a little. It’s not a case of being deactivated, it literally won’t be on the car...but...it’s rolling out now so your Mercedes-Benz might still have it. When you press the P button, does it come up with scanning for spaces on your car screen?

As always very nicely done. I have a c43 cab the last of the old model. been driving it for 4 months extensively, noticed though that Park Assist do work well but if you need to parallel park on say a busy street, I find that its faster to do it manually (as long as youre obviously do not get nervy when a few cars are now waiting behind you and the space isn't so tight) . I find that I can spot the space well before the computer can. im sure it'll get better and better when eventually its all level 3 or 4. thanks again Nick!
Great video Nic looking forward to my 1st Mercedes arriving soon! Had this feature on my old (other make) car and the dealer didn’t know how it worked to show me! Your vids are awesome!
Ha! At last a feature that I knew I had! 😁 Except I didn’t know I could also do bay parking 😖 Every new feature you teach me, shows just how bad Stratstone’s was at their handover. Thanks again for an excellent training video.
Hi Nick, another super video, i have EQA250 (2022) Australia., and guess what, today i used auto parking, its worked , but i was scared as steeringwheel moved by itself, so i took over control. but i am very surprised. will do on parking lot on weekend . thank you .
Ah awesome! Glad some countries still have it! It’s quite rare to find these days! Only certain models have it now, hopefully all new models coming out on the future will get it again! 🤓
OMG.. I had my GLA250 2014 since 2014. I always saw that blue P symbol comes up when I am trying to park. But naturally when you don't know what it is, you ignore it. I never knew my car could do this for almost a decade of having it. I am going to give it a go the next time I am trying to park.
Thank you Nick O'Leary for making this video. I'm very excited to try it out today on my 2016 GLC300 4Matic that I brought a couple years ago. I'm having some issues with other things that should work but don't. I refuse to go back to the Mercedes dealership. I took it in when I discovered the trunk failed to open with the hands free foot swipe motion. Those SOBs charged me $86 to tell me that yes the year/model of my car has this feature however only the vehicles produced in the latter part of that year. 🤦♀️ (All they had to do was read the manufacture month/year off the label located inside of the driver's door. Bloody crooks!)
That Video was awesome thanks for the tips and I actually learnt something, I didn’t know that the system didn’t work if there’s two car spaces between two cars .......thanks
loving this. but i wouldnt call a system smart, if it cannot park when all is free. i mean, I know that I can do it myself, but a parking master should also be able to just park. but hey, a future feature :) thank you for the video!
Great explanation which has really helped me try this on my May 14 B Class. The only two small points you did'nt mention was how on the old / classic system you need to have the indicator stalk up (ie indicating right) if looking for a space on the offside / opposite side of the road in the UK. The other point is that it can help you exit tight spots as well. Thanks again.
Another great is if you are parking on the driver side, you have to turn on the signal light for the driver side to let your car know you are parking on that side. I didn’t know that until about a year after I had the car and took it into service because I couldn’t get it to park on the driver side.
Hi Edwin Omar Del Castillo Huertas, Absolutely, on the older system you simply indicate using your indicator the other side you wish to park and just follow the process in the video and the car will do the rest. For the new system, it does it for you automatically!
I didn't know the older system will do bay parking. I have used the passenger side parallel parking with Park Assist. After 2 years of ownership I discovered it will do driver side parallel parking only if the indicator is on to search that side.
Hi Anton, I always recommend that when the system is on and it’s parking actually use the brake pedal. It’ll give you a whole load more confidence and you’re in control of the speed of the car. And of course if you’re not happy with it, grab the wheel and it’s all yours again!
Two things: 1) Does it park on other (drivers) side, let say if local road is one way and parking spaces are on both sides? Or if I visit Europe from UK? 2) Parking at shopping centre in between two cars is 100% guaranty your sides will be vandalised by other careless users (especially hens with kids).
Hi Nemo it sure does! If it’s the classic / older system then use your indicator to select which side you want to park on. If it’s the new one, it scans both at the same time anyway. Yes you’re right I’ll personally try to avoid parking in between cars for that same reason!
Maybe nice to have parking assist but I can park quicker without it. I don't know if it is used at all by men whether reversing or otherwise. It seems a selling point rather than a practical help.
Used parktronics the the first time on my 2020 GLC300. Quite scary because I was used the older semi-automatic version in my 2011 E350. I’ll get used to the fully automated eventually!
Nick O'Leary that’s why it’s scary. I love to use technology but surrendering the car’s control even under these excellent conditions takes some getting used to. Plus it goes about a lot quicker than I expected. It doesn’t turtle its way into the parking space. I’ll now have to experiment with the brake pedal to see if I can somewhat reduce the speed...
Hi louis campeol, Oh definitely use the brake pedal! I too wouldn't be happy at just letting the car park itself! If you use the brake pedal you'll feel so much better as you have full control over the whole system and of course can cancel at any point.
Best channel for Mercedes owners. I am getting a Denim Blue Metallic A200 AMG Executive Edition with Night Pack. But I cannot find a single picture online or on UA-cam.... do you know where I can find one?!
Thank you!! Glad you love the videos! Ooo very nice! No sadly not filmed a blue A-Class but I did capture the colour on the CLA 🤓 ua-cam.com/video/K4Ysp4fc8QE/v-deo.html
I just started watching your channel and I am VERY impressed. I live in Bethesda, MD and own a 2015 GLK350 4MATIC. I am certainly going to try Park Assist. I have never used it before. But the question I have is related to another subject. Do you know if it is possible to update COMMAND (actually, the software behind it) to use Remote Start on the Mercedes me app? Or the folding side mirrors when parked? Please advise.
Thanks L. Ralph Mellon! 🤓 glad you’re liking the videos! No sadly the software on the car is as is, it can’t be updated to anything newer found on some of the newer ones. It’s not just software as the newer cars as they have faster processors etc and higher graphics capability to run it.
Nick you also demostrate the auto parking assist with parallel parking into a space, also if you can include whether it also do both forward and backward as in the bay parking?
Hey John, thanks for the suggestion! I might cover Park Assist again in the future 🤓 I covered how to use it (if you have it) in one of my very first videos here: ua-cam.com/video/EVYj0EggN90/v-deo.html Just bear in mind, most models from 2020 onwards don’t have it due to a United Nations Regulation but if you happen to have it, it’s quite easy to use!
Thanks for the demo. My 2018 S450 has this feature but it does not seem to be at all reliable. It misses most obvious spaces, even though they fit the criteria of having parked cars on either side. Today it actually identified a space where there wasn't one and proceeded to start self-parking maneuvers. It ended up lightly bumping another parked vehicle before I realized there wasn't even an available space and took over. Weather was perfect so that was not a factor. There is either something wrong with my car or Mercedes should never have released this system.
Hi John, There are of course lots of factors involved with a park assist system but from the sounds of it a check might be needed. I’d give your local Mercedes-Benz a call and they’ll be able to just check your parking sensors as that’s what it uses to complete the manoeuvre.
@@npoleary My Mercedes successfully parked itself twice today! I think it may be averse to really bright sunlight and that may have had something to do with the previous behavior. Who knows. In any case, thanks again for the great videos and for taking the time to respond to your viewers.
You forgot to explain that if you use the ”blinker” you can also use the parking assist to find a parking space at the ”wrong side/other side of the street. 😉👍
Absolutely you’re right John! I was planning originally to save it for a tips and tricks video but unfortunately Active Parking Assist is now no longer available on new cars 😢 It might make a comeback again in the future though! Fingers crossed anyway!
@@npoleary hello I’m having some issues with the parking assist on my 2017 a class. The ‘p’ icon comes up but the arrows don’t come up I have tried indicating to the right as well and have followed instructions but it doesn’t seem to work. Any ideas why it doesn’t ? To be fair I have only tried it at night..could that be the issue? Does it only work during the day?
Hey J Chahill, have you tried driving further past the space? If the whole length of your car hasn’t driven past the space then it won’t come up as the car wouldn’t of been able to scan it.
@@npoleary hello thanks for the reply. I tried it this morning and it seems to work I had to drive a bit more in front of the space and I guess it may not work well at night possibly. Thank you
Thanks Kingsley! Glad you enjoy the videos! Possibly…however it is designed to recognise cars when driving past, the pillars may not be detected so just go careful if you do. Of course you can cancel by moving the steering wheel and control the car’s speed with the brake pedal 🤓
Would be better to actually point to correct button using your finger or describe the symbol as two buttons show a P (?parking camera/sensors) one shows an A (?assist) and is lit up with a green light, one has a faint line drawn from an edge of the front seat so not initially noticed on the brief clip, you could also briefly explain what the other 2 buttons are for. I say this as not everyone watching owns a Mercedes but may actually be thinking of buying one so may not have come across any of these symbols before
Hi A Mohsen, Yes you are absolutely right, you can exit a parallel space once you’ve let the car assist you with parking but I left it out on purpose as not all Mercedes-Benz models can do that! Most new ones should be able to though :)
Hi Nick, thanks for such a clear demo. I have a 2017 GLE 500e and often it seems to be a bit hit or miss whether or not the system recognises a suitable parking space. I get that the speed has to be under a certain number, but is there also a recommended distance I need to be away from the back of the cars on either side? Also, the Parking Active Assist manual on the GLE tells me I can use the system to exit a parking space as well, but I've never been able to get this to work (not that I really need it!). Can I assume that's because I might be too close to the cars on either side?
Hi ozodyssey, Yes the parking assist system scans for spaces under 20mph but I have found it is more accurate at lower speeds. Not really, I haven't seen an actual measurement for how far away when actually looking for a space, usually just a close as you can ideally. With getting the car out of the space, it only works for parallel parking spaces and yes there does have to be adequate space either side just in case one of the other cars had moved.
I find that it somehow helps sometimes to drive past a space twice or thrice (You may look weird doing it) and especially while keeping the turn signal on. Parallel parking isn't a problem for me though. 2016 GLE 500e.
Hi Nick. Thanks for a great explanation on this. It’s very helpful. Can you help explain more about LIM and how does it work? I’m a new owner of E350e. Thanks in advance.
Hi Piya Smutkochorn, Very nice! Love the hybrids and their silent drive in E-MODE. The LIM switch is for the Limiter. Unlike cruise control which keeps you at the same speed, a limiter will stop you going above a certain speed. They’re brilliant for speed cameras, say it’s 50mph, you can set it to 50mph and it will not let you speed or go above that. When you’re done just press CNCL to cancel. Hope this helps! 👍🏼
Half a year ago, when I was about to get my first MB, I was looking through UA-cam for guides to familiarize myself with the car even before I took delivery and found your channel. Now, you're my go-to guy when I need to make the most of my car's features. I do have one question on the Parking Assist: The few times I've used the feature, it doesn't offer me a choice of whether I want to park forward or in reverse - it's just straight up forward parking. Any idea on why that is? The car is a 2021 GLB, and I'm in Austria, BTW. Thanks!
Hey Bolivar, thank you! Glad you’re enjoying the videos! Sadly Active Parking Assist isn’t available here in the UK, hasn’t been available now for about 2 years. Although If it’s the same system as it used to be when I last used it, make sure you drive past the space further. When you press the P Button and it scans the spaces, keeping driving past the space. If you don’t go far enough the only manoeuvre it can achieve is the forward one. Just drive a few more meters forward and it should do it 🤓
@@npoleary Thanks for the reply! 😄Tried out your tip this morning and it actually worked...well, kind of. It immediately went into reverse parking mode after I drove past the available spot a little ways off, but still no choice of forward or reverse. Perhaps I just need to find its sweet spot to get those options to pop up. In any case, many thanks and more power to your channel!

Thanks Sonny! I know one day…they might drive us around! 😨 haha 😅
Great video Nic looking forward to my 1st Mercedes arriving soon! Had this feature on my old (other make) car and the dealer didn’t know how it worked to show me! Your vids are awesome!
Awesome thanks Phil!
just bought an E300 in Australia and your video has helped me understand how to use it. Can't wait to try out next tine I'm out
Sounds great A Westwood! Road Trip maybe?
Often wondered what the blue p was for now I can’t wait to try it out lol
Very good review, clear and precise. Keep up the good work.
Thank you! 🙏
Another 1st class presentation.
Thank you! 🤓
I have the feeling as Simon..I have had mine for 15 months and never knew what that P was all about!!!

I drive c63s that car is to much of a beast for me to use park assist .
I will always park myself like a man .
Ha! At last a feature that I knew I had! 😁 Except I didn’t know I could also do bay parking 😖 Every new feature you teach me, shows just how bad Stratstone’s was at their handover.
Thanks again for an excellent training video.
Thank you! Glad you’re enjoying the videos! I’ll try and keeping them coming!
Thanks, the best video for user information about this parking feature on the net.
Thank you!! 🙏🙏
@@npoleary hi Nick, yes , I tried to do parallel parking, which did very smooth and accurate.. very impressive
OMG.. I had my GLA250 2014 since 2014. I always saw that blue P symbol comes up when I am trying to park. But naturally when you don't know what it is, you ignore it. I never knew my car could do this for almost a decade of having it. I am going to give it a go the next time I am trying to park.
Thanks for the info, cuz of covid theres no or very minimal handover. These video’s help a lot
No problem Stef! 🤓
Very good demonstration. 👍🏼 - However, I only use this function when I'm too lazy to park by myself. 😎
Me too! If I'm having a lazy day, I'll say nah the car can do it! I don't use it for bay parking but certainly for parallel parking.
Just got my brand spanking new AMG C43, seen a few of videos, really really useful and handy advice
Thanks Harry! Glad you like the vids! 🤓
Thanks for the detailed info! Much appreciated!
No worries! 🤓
Nice video - I haven't found it that useful yet on my 2017 C300. Its quicker to do it myself.
(All they had to do was read the manufacture month/year off the label located inside of the driver's door. Bloody crooks!)
I just subscribed so I'm looking forward to watching your previous videos as well as the new ones about Mercedes. God bless you.
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Hope you get your other issues sorted! 🤞🏼
Thanks for this video Nick. Just got 2021 GLA and couldn’t understand why it worked sometimes and other times it did not!
Awesome! There we go! It really is quite easy to use 🤓
That Video was awesome thanks for the tips and I actually learnt something, I didn’t know that the system didn’t work if there’s two car spaces between two cars .......thanks
Hi snuggles03,
Not a problem glad you enjoyed it! 🤓
Had my GLA for a year and found this out today 😂
Loving these videos. Planning on getting my c class Coupé next week up so keen for more!
Nice Ben! What colour have you gone for?
Nick O'Leary thought I’d go for the classic white but figured I could wrap it in a year or so if I fancied
Thank you, found this by accident, my dealer never told me about it. I have another question which he cannot answer...
I have a cycle not sure why I am watching this. But the feature is cool.
Thanks Nick, have done parallel parking with it a few times but had no idea it could do bay parking - need to try that out :-)
Absolutely brilliant and very informative video Nick, thanks 👍
No problem! Thank you! 😎
Excellent video. I now know how to use this function. Thanks!
Awesome Anne VanDyke! Glad you liked it!
loving this.
but i wouldnt call a system smart, if it cannot park when all is free.
i mean, I know that I can do it myself, but a parking master should also be able to just park. but hey, a future feature :)
thank you for the video!
Hi Dutch yes you’re absolutely right! But only for parallel parking! 😄
Glad you enjoyed it though!
Thank you sir
Your videos are very useful , many thanks
Thank you! 🙏
Another great is if you are parking on the driver side, you have to turn on the signal light for the driver side to let your car know you are parking on that side. I didn’t know that until about a year after I had the car and took it into service because I couldn’t get it to park on the driver side.
Aha there we go! Good you know now! 🤓
Good video !!! Only missed if you want to park in the other side of the road. But excellent for the comparison of the system.
Hi Edwin Omar Del Castillo Huertas,
Absolutely, on the older system you simply indicate using your indicator the other side you wish to park and just follow the process in the video and the car will do the rest.
For the new system, it does it for you automatically!
Ok, got it. Now I just need a Benz.
How amazing it is; oh it is so so great ^^ thank you for great explanations as well ^^^
I didn't know the older system will do bay parking. I have used the passenger side parallel parking with Park Assist. After 2 years of ownership I discovered it will do driver side parallel parking only if the indicator is on to search that side.
Aha there we go! Hidden tips and tricks! Gotta love them!
Many Thanks, very helpful. Peace From London. 👍👍
Good demo Nick. Just discovered your videos. Greetings from a Brit in the Netherlands 🇳🇱.
Awesome AeroBill,
Thanks for watching! Hope you're keeping okay during everything that's going on at the moment!
Thank you! 🙌
I had the classic one but mine was different and I had to do the accelerator and brake myself, car only done the steering
Great demo Nick. Is it just me, I just don’t have faith in the auto park system, I always prefer to park it myself.
Hi Anton,
I always recommend that when the system is on and it’s parking actually use the brake pedal. It’ll give you a whole load more confidence and you’re in control of the speed of the car. And of course if you’re not happy with it, grab the wheel and it’s all yours again!
Two things:
1) Does it park on other (drivers) side, let say if local road is one way and parking spaces are on both sides? Or if I visit Europe from UK?
2) Parking at shopping centre in between two cars is 100% guaranty your sides will be vandalised by other careless users (especially hens with kids).
Hi Nemo it sure does! If it’s the classic / older system then use your indicator to select which side you want to park on. If it’s the new one, it scans both at the same time anyway.
Yes you’re right I’ll personally try to avoid parking in between cars for that same reason!
I can’t wait to try it on my new gle 😁
I was yesterday but didn’t lol
Very good presentation!!!!
Now I CAN use it!!!!
Awesome William Wang! Pretty cool though right?
You were the best at explaining this! I can’t wait to get mine now I will know exactly what to do! Cheers💕🎀
Thanks Hollee! Ooo new car round the corner, which model have you gone for?
@@npoleary Heya I got a 2017 b class could it do that also
If you have parking sensors it should do! 😇
@@npoleary the funny thing is time now 23:43 and im up watching your wonderful videos
Awesome thanks Dre Killa! 😎
Haha well don’t stay up too late!
Maybe nice to have parking assist but I can park quicker without it. I don't know if it is used at all by men whether reversing or otherwise. It seems a selling point rather than a practical help.
In addition it has an exit the space function - which I have only been able to get to work twice. Hmm must read the manual ... one day
Very true Gary, been a while since I’ve done it but yes it can do it on a parallel parking space on both systems :)
Used parktronics the the first time on my 2020 GLC300. Quite scary because I was used the older semi-automatic version in my 2011 E350. I’ll get used to the fully automated eventually!
I'm sure you will louis campeol! It's even easier than the one before as it changes gear and even indicates for you!
Hi louis campeol,
Oh definitely use the brake pedal! I too wouldn't be happy at just letting the car park itself! If you use the brake pedal you'll feel so much better as you have full control over the whole system and of course can cancel at any point.
I have to try it I've had my car for 3yrs and never used it

This system is off the chainnnnnnnnnnnnn. Wish I had in my glk350 2014
Nick you also demostrate the auto parking assist with parallel parking into a space, also if you can include whether it also do both forward and backward as in the bay parking?
Hey John, thanks for the suggestion! I might cover Park Assist again in the future 🤓
I covered how to use it (if you have it) in one of my very first videos here: ua-cam.com/video/EVYj0EggN90/v-deo.html
Just bear in mind, most models from 2020 onwards don’t have it due to a United Nations Regulation but if you happen to have it, it’s quite easy to use!
Great vid thank you 🙏🏼
No problem 🤓
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi John,
There are of course lots of factors involved with a park assist system but from the sounds of it a check might be needed. I’d give your local Mercedes-Benz a call and they’ll be able to just check your parking sensors as that’s what it uses to complete the manoeuvre.
@@npoleary That's a good idea. Thanks again for your great videos.
No problem! Hope you get it sorted!
@@npoleary My Mercedes successfully parked itself twice today! I think it may be averse to really bright sunlight and that may have had something to do with the previous behavior. Who knows. In any case, thanks again for the great videos and for taking the time to respond to your viewers.
No problem John! Glad you managed to sort it out! 🤓
Another great informative video Nick! Thank you! Will be checking this out……
You forgot to explain that if you use the ”blinker” you can also use the parking assist to find a parking space at the ”wrong side/other side of the street. 😉👍
Absolutely you’re right John! I was planning originally to save it for a tips and tricks video but unfortunately Active Parking Assist is now no longer available on new cars 😢
It might make a comeback again in the future though!
Thank you
Will the park assist me to reverse into my car port or does only work in a bay with a car either side
Thanks Nick brilliant clearly explained videos
Thanks Kingsley! Glad you enjoy the videos!
Possibly…however it is designed to recognise cars when driving past, the pillars may not be detected so just go careful if you do.
Of course you can cancel by moving the steering wheel and control the car’s speed with the brake pedal 🤓
@@npoleary Thanks for your reply Nick much appreciated. You’re the best in helping us MB owners to understand our vehicles, keep them coming 👍
Thank you! 🤓
Comments like this make my day! I’ll try and keep them coming!
I say this as not everyone watching owns a Mercedes but may actually be thinking of buying one so may not have come across any of these symbols before
Great video, perhaps you could've explained how to exit the parking but you must let the car park itself first, it took me a while to know that.
Hi A Mohsen,
Yes you are absolutely right, you can exit a parallel space once you’ve let the car assist you with parking but I left it out on purpose as not all Mercedes-Benz models can do that! Most new ones should be able to though :)
Always good for freaking out your passengers if they've seen it beefore, my boss asked why I've a beeter car than he has?
Excellent. Thanks
No problem! Glad you liked it! 🤓
Hi ozodyssey,
Yes the parking assist system scans for spaces under 20mph but I have found it is more accurate at lower speeds.
Hi Piya Smutkochorn,
Very nice!
I have a 2018 S560 Mercedes-Benz😊
