By the way, I got both guns back in action briefly after getting them back to the work bench. The .22 right away, and the .357 DID have a fired primer preventing the cylinder from moving. The primer was backed out into the recoil shield hanging up the gun. I don't recall Dad every having this problem, even with handloads. I've had the issue a couple of times with magnum loads. Don't know if it's the soft Federal primers or what. I know there's not much clearance or margin of error between the cylinder and recoil shield.
Good to know 👍 Love the Content 🎯❤
I had this issue with my 32 long reloads.
Figured out that I still have to clean the primer chamber and the remaining burn was letting it slide after igniting.
Lesson we still learn.
Thanks for the update
I bought several guns at Lawrence firearms. Thanks for bringing back memories. I was a regular at his shop in 1970 & 71.
Most people believe that revolvers don't jam. I've experienced it twice in 30+ years of shooting.
Memories... Lost my dad 46 years ago. I think of him often. He was a broken man. The result of his service in WWII in the Pacific campaign. He endured the bitter combat and indescribable horrors of war. Deaf from shell shock, numbed to killing, hatred for the Japanese. He could never let it go. He hated guns and didn't want anything to do with them. He was never able to interact like a true father should but I understood that. He was always a hero to me and will always be recognized as a member of the Greatest Generation.
My Dad was a Staff Sargent who also fought in the Pacific. Dad would never talk about any fighting he did in the war although I know he saw much. I think it is telling that he never brought back his rifle or his .45. Truly "The Greatest Generation"
May he rest in peace 🇺🇲
Your fathers' service is appreciated.
Sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing
Talking about the loss of your dad brings back such a flood of precious memories of my larger-than-life hero, my dad…Thirty-five years this year since he passed away, and I miss him so much. You would have liked him, Hickok!👍
Gotta love Hickok45! Best UA-cam personality! Met him years ago & I mentioned that I had recently lost my Dad. He actually talked w/ me about it & said some very comforting statements. I was happy when I left his presence. Always positive & a great outlook on life, our US Constitution & should be President of the NRA. We can all learn from this fine man! God bless ya sir! 🙏
Lost my Dad, my BEST FRIEND, in December of 96. Life had never been the same. He was only 59 years old. I turn 59 this August. It’s hard to comprehend that he was the same age then as I am now. He seemed so much older. Cherish those moments and spend time with your folks. Don’t let silly things in life come between you. I assure you, you’ll regret it if you do. Thanks for the videos Hickok.
My uncle was like a second dad to me and he left me his High Standard Sentinal that we used to shoot together. I also have my dad's modest but highly cherished firearms. Those guns and great memories are all I have of both of them.
That happened with my daughter she was only 27 years old, your story hit me so hard I'm in Tears thinking of what we've gone through. She left behind four babies who we are raising now. We love the old guns and shoot when we can together. I've fallen from a car accident and with sciatic nerve pain in my back and legs with severe pain for nearly two years so I can't do much at all now. It's a sad day for all of us. I try to take them fishing 🎣 to make good memories with them.
☹️ 🙏 ❤
God bless you and your dear daughter and your family and your friends. ❤✝️
God bless you!
Find a great back surgeon and get it done! I was in excruciating pain (sciatica). Had a lamenectedy, a discectomy, fusion and I woke up pain free. I’m 4 months out and I feel 20 years younger! Doing things I’ve not been able to do for years. Don’t let it go like I did, or you may have permanent nerve damage like me…no pain, but I walk with a limp. I’m 68.5 years old.
@@j.rogercavanaugh3971chiropractor is what fixed my sciatica, incredible
You just brought back great memories with my Dad❗️Spent several hours with him in the field hunting and just plinking. He’s been gone 25 yrs now …. But he’s still with me daily in my heart and mind…….Love me some Sunday Shoot Around ❗️
AHHHHHH! The Western Auto Store! I’m the same age as you Hickok45 and how your stories took me back with my Grandpa going to the WA store with squeaky wooden floor boards in a small town in south east Pa. From the farm it was a fun trip and the price of ammo was like the 5 cent Hershey bar! Everyone we knew had some sort of firearm for hunting or protection. We kids brought our rifles to school during hunting season. Even took off a day or two to do so. Sharpened my pencil over the waste can by the teachers desk with my pocket knife. How did we decline to the standards of today??? And so many questions I should have asked when Loves ones were still here? I did a pretty good job of this but wish I’d asked more. Time flies indeed! My Grandpa at 90 when I asked what it was like he said, “The weeks seem like days and the months like weeks”. How true! Indeed we never know when that April 14th may come for each of us. All the more reason to treasure every minuet with those we hold Dear! Kind Thanks and Many Blessings! And Thanks for a Great Ride back to cherished days that warms the heart! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania
"the creaky wooden floorboards" I remember them well!
Yes Sir.Brother..
I bought my first set of weights at Western Auto in Newark, Delaware in the month of April, 1970. The plates were plastic, filled with cement. It was a 110 pound set. I was in the 9th grade.
@@gj4578 Those days were indeed good old days! But now it’s the good ole DAZE, eh? I loved going to the Western Auto with my Grandpa. We’d go into town in his old blue Plymouth and just about everything in the tractor shed came from Western Auto unless it was an old family piece from years before. Thanks for your story! I love hearing from others. A Fine Spring to you! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania
@@savage22bolt32 Going to that old store was a treat with my Grandfather! There’s a pizza shop in that spot today and the old store was torn down. So many great old places were torn down for some steel and concrete place with no character. So those old floors are great memories. We had a hardware store in an old building, squeaky floors and all. They had a wooden barrel of sulfur and we kids would buy some to make gunpowder. The old lady would ask, you’re not going to make bangs with this are ya? It’s for the garden. I think it was 10-15 cents for a paper bag full. We never did make any good powder as much as we tried but we did make a few bangs if we were lucky. Lots of fizzles though and fun to boot. Thanks for your story! DaveyJO
Lost my Dad 20 years ago last month. I have his High Standard Sentinel, his Winchester Model 94, Ithaca M1911A1 and many others. Always makes me feel good and starts the memories flowing when you bring it out😊and Dad bought my 1st Rollfast at Western Auto👍
My late dad’s .22 revolver was an old Iver Johnson…Love having that old piece!❤
Wonderful! Memories of your father and his favorite pistol. I'll share one with you. We bought a ranch in central Texas in 1981, and over the years made improvements. My dad bought a used 3rd gen Colt SAA and carried it as a 'snake gun' on the property. Once while we were burning an enormous brushpile, a rattlesnake emerged from the brush and my dad pulled his Colt and fired all five shots at the snake from a few feet away, and missed them all. My mom picked up a hoe and calmly walked over and chopped the snake's head off. My dad passed on June 14, 2020 and I am now the owner of that SAA with stag grips. Thank you, Hickock for the story
Good memory. In your dad's defense, there's something about shooting a snake that is very difficult, regardless of how easy they make it look in the Wester movies.
Anybody who doesn't believe this, throw a piece of rope or a stick on the ground and blast away.
Unless you have it lined up lengthways, your margin of error is very small. Either way, it's about like shooting at a half-dollar lying on the ground, plus, we're not used to the proper sight picture for shooting something so close and downward.
I encounter the same issue sometimes when I'm trimming tree limbs with a 12 gauge. If the limb is not very high up, it's almost like shooting a rifle at it. Can be a little embarrassing when you miss it entirely. :-)
Great memories of sharing your love of guns/ shooting with your dad!
Always one of my favorite true experts on the internet.
Waking up in Beautiful Tennessee. And watching HK 45. Life is Good!
Nice people and great place to visit.
Got a Revelation 410 shotgun for Christmas 56 years ago ! Good memories!
the past year my dad and i have been going to the range few times a month, its one of my favorites times of the week and moments ill cherish forever after.
The guns our loved ones leave behind tell us the kind of person they were, the kind of shooter they were, and the specific things they enjoyed in the shooting world. Their favorite guns are the most cherished of treasures. Thank you for sharing these guns, their stories, and your thoughts. My favorite video of yours to date. Great job! PS-glad you got them working post-video.
Thank you sir, I also was born in 50 & our journey follows closely including guns and loss of family. Keep up the good work.
Brings back memories of losing my Dad when I was a teen. I only had 16 years with him before he passed and still hold so many great memories of the short time spent with him. Sunday morning shoot a rounds with Hickok45 is always relaxing and educational, thanks for spending it with everyone.
Thanks for the great story of your father! Great reflection of life.
It's so true. My Uncle Tom just had his 88th birthday on April 6th. He is a retired police officer and always talked to me about guns and shooting. He is still with us and I called him on his birthday. I enjoy your channel and the advice you have for us. Keep up the good work.
Man, hicckok makes some good asmr videos, just him chatting makes me relaxed which in turn in helps me sleep
Yes you are 100% right about ESPN !!!
Hello Hickok45,
Your video today was excellent. At 70 years old, I can sincerely relate and appreciate your message. I inherited my grandfather's .25 caliber Colt vest pocket pistol. From the serial number, it was produced in 1917. Unfortunately, I lost my grandfather when I was in the 12th grade of high school. Time is extremely short, and it goes by extremely fast. I watch all of your videos ----- especially the ones that show the days of the wild west and cowboy guns (LOL). That is what we called them when I was a youngster. Your Colt revolvers are absolutely beautiful. I also greatly appreciate your sense of humor --- it is extremely unique.
Best regards,
Mike
I’ve never found a way to mess up a Ruger revolver no matter what I do. One of the things I like about their revolvers. I can’t say the same for any of my autoloading handguns.
Always called them May-Apples here in these parts
Glad to hear you mention your college basketball experience. Haven’t missed many of your videos for over 10 years, always wondered about where you played and some of your history. 6th leading rebounder in Division 1 no matter what conference is a substantial recognition. Part of your success on UA-cam is your presentation and humility. Thank you
Lost my father 29 years ago. I am grateful for the firearms heritage he taught and left me.
He would have loved this internet stuff & digital photography - thank you for this Channel
Boy-o-boy you said it right , appreciate your folks while they're here 'cause things are never the same once they're gone . I too inherited all of my dad's guns and he had a lot of 'em . A retired L.E.O. with a passion for firearms . The funny thing is the gun he carried most (a S&W .38special mod. 649) , I never liked . After he passed I thought a lot about it and realized that a man with a 30yr career in L.E. must've known something that I didn't . Well , I've been carrying that .38 for the last 16yrs and I really wouldn't want a better CCW . Ol' school guns are sometimes the best guns . Great video Mr. Hickok45 , and thanks for your perspective on the folks that aren't with us anymore.....you're 100% spot-on !
Hello ! Love your channel ! Todays was one of your best and one of my favorites talking about your dad and johns grandpa ! Thanks for taking the time to bring the memory for your family and the viewers and more importantly your camera man........
Thank you for sharing about your DAD. Love History and you learn so much.
Springtime in Tennessee! Great to see the leaves popping and the pots smoking! Keep it up! People don't have to understand these videos. Most who are here do!! Those who don't need a tissue! What a great way to honor and remember your dad.
My Dad didn’t really shoot a lot, but I got to learn about guns from my Uncle, he had quite the arsenal. One of my precious memories was sitting with my Uncle as he explained how trajectory worked ect. We lost him in 96, my father passed away in 2017.
Lost my dad this January. Left me his old Marlin model 336. This is a good reminder to get out and shoot it some. Have a good week y’all.
Mr Hickok, what you’re saying isn’t morbid but very true! The passage of time is a cold reality
My Sunday night habit here in the Philippines. Lost my Dad 23 years ago. Grew up around guns and I miss shooting with my Dad and my Grandpa. Thanks for sharing.
Very interesting. I still need to add a revolver of some kind to my collection. This is without a doubt the best shooting channel on the site!
Hawes Western Marshall .357 blued was my first center fire revolver! 28 years later I still have it, but it's been retired to the shelf for a decade till I can source a few parts.
Great video and message. It's so important to remember and honor those that we love who have passed and to keep them with us in the present. Gone but never forgotten. You do your Daddy justice by firing his old guns and talking about him, to him and keeping his spirit alive and well! Thanks for the reminder to do this and to be a good human. I haven't watched UA-cam videos in awhile and I really, really missed your videos the most. Thanks for your always positive and informative videos. You are truly appreciated!
I have the J.C Higgins version from my Grandpa. He use to let me and my brother take it to the dump and shot all day long. We lost him almost 19 years ago but this solid treasure brings back all the memories every time it is brought out. Good shoot around today!!
I can relate lost my Mother on Sept 10th of 2001 and reminded every year, then in April 28th 2016 i lost my Dad. You never know. I inherited several of his firearms including a bolt action 20 guage. I have a 38 revolver he really loved but had broke and wouldn't fire anymore. So in remembrance of my Dad I sent it off to a fella in Utah and had it reworked to function again an was so happy to fire it again. I shared it with my Son's then a couple of years ago took it back home for a visit an shared it with my Brother's. Thank you Sir for all your video's an knoledge.
I can think of no other defining moment in one’s life than the passing of a parent.
Thanks for sharing
To everyone here, as always, thank you and I pray the best for you and your family and loved ones. Thank you hickok45 for another relaxing Sunday 😎 🫡
Soon Hickok will start shooting ticks off of leaves!!! And he won’t miss!
Yes!! A real pistol. We are getting all hyped up for Cowboy Action Shoots.
Mom passed 8yrs ago, a relative reached out this week and said she was going through old stuff and ran across mom's pistol. Asked if I wanted it. Yes and Yes! Looking forward to cleaning it up and sending a few downrange in her honor.
My dad bought me a Browning SA -22 when I was 12. We went together to a hardware store in Montgomery, AL. Moved to 300 acre cattle farm where I fired thousands of rounds. I still walk with it 59 years later and am thankful for him and his gift to me. I fire it in his honor, a WWII VET who fought in the battle of the Bulge.
Great stuff. Had 2 of those. Got another to pick up soon. Blue 357. With the original firing pin without transfer bar
In six states, tomorrow (3rd Monday in April) is Patriots Day. Always has been one of my favorite holidays. I salute my fellow patriots.
Thank you for sharing your story about your dad my friend
What a beautiful Sunday. Great to see you.
Thank you sir for been my companion on these interwebs 🙏😺
Thanks for the video.
Love your videos. EVERYTIME I look at guns you have a review for me ❤. Best cow boy shooter out here 🎉
Thanks for this one hickok45. Very important subject matter was covered today. Mom passed three years ago and Dad is 83. Your words meant a lot. Thank you sir
One of the most satisfying feelings is getting old inherited guns running again. Good luck with that .357, and I can't wait to see it back out on the channel. I've had similar experiences with my dad and grandfather's guns. I've had revelations, Ted Williams, sears robuck etc, all with stories about how much they were enjoyed hunting and plinking.
Yes, don't forget the Marlin Glenfield. I think they were sold by Otasco stores. I've had several of those model 60 .22 semiautomatic rifles with the impressed squirrel on the stock. Wonderful little rifles.
Wow! great video. So pertinent. Thanks for sharing. I'm seventy five (never imagined I would get this far lol), and have many memories related to yours regarding family and loved ones.. most all gone now. Blessings to you and your loved ones.
Now these are some fine guns, happy sunday!
Thanks again really enjoyed talk an shot!!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉
Morning 45. 😊
Awesome Sunday shoot around and awesome guns glad you got both of the guns fixed thanks for sharing Hickok45
Your father did a great job raising a highly respectable, personable man.
appreciate you!! My Dad's pride and joy gunwise was a Browning 12 gauge, Austrian built!!
Beautiful revolver!
Life is good, man. Thanks for sharing and as always appreciate the content.
God bless you and your close ones 🙏
We all remember when and where we were when each of our parents passed. They each blessed us in many ways.
At the beginning of the video there was very pleasant music, like from old movies.
I enjoy your story telling very much
Happy sunday! 🤠🤠🤠🤠
Benjamin Franklin quote and noted in "Gone With The Wind", "Do not squander time, for that is the stuff life is made of". Thank you for another great one Mr. 45.
My dad passed 30 yrs ago also, and being in your age group I know the pain of it all, another great video sir
On a lighter note I remember when we visited my grandparents in the 60's in TN they would take me to the Western Auto to check out the store. For a 10 year old boy it was awesome!
My first 22 rifle was a Revelation from Western Auto. I really enjoyed that rifle.
I'm sorry you lost your dad. I lost my dad in April also. April 4th, was 2 years since I lost him. I've told you before. He was one of the best gunsmiths in the country. 50 plus years. When he first got into gunsmithing, he bought two Colt SAAs. One was a 38 special, and one was a 357. He converted them both to 45 colt. He sent them back to Colt and had the frames color case hardened. They matched perfectly. He was a master. He loved your channel when he had time to watch. Keep the videos coming, brother . PEACE ✌️
Was just looking at a Herters JP Sauer in 401 PowerMag. Well built indeed. Thanks for sharing about your dad.
Such a good show had to whatchu twice.. Hit home this week, needed this talk
THIS IS YOUR BEST SUNDAY SHOOT AROUND EVER FOR MANY REASONS. Yes I am yelling, and very emotional and a reminder for me.
Great show 👏 👍
In 1975 my first firearm was the Hawes Marshal in 22lr. You brought back a lot of memories with this one. Glad you were in my neck of the woods here in west Tennessee. Hope you enjoyed going to Final Flight outfitters and of course Dixie Gun Works. I am only less than 10 miles from Dixie and about 14 from Final Flight. Keep up with what you do and may God bless
02 April 1994...lost my beautiful mum...30yrs, wow. She is dearly missed.
Good morning 45,,,Life is GOOD 👍
Mr Hickok I was chopping onions (in the car) while listening to your recollection of your father’s passing. Great choice of guns today. RIP.
Rain! I wish! I'm still getting frost! Life is good!😊
Good morning Hickok45 and gang.
Hope all is doing ok out there.
Cheers
Good morning Sir. from southern piedmont region of Virginia. You have inspired me once again to step out into the backyard and go pew pew.
Great Stuff Hickok 💯💥💥💥💥💥💥💥
God bless you 45, That loss never seems to go away. Thank you for sharing, You mean so much to so many of us. God speed 45 !
thanks for the shootout john great handguns have a great week
I also have a Hawes Western Marshal in .44 Mag. Great gun, I can understand Hickock45's dad liking it so much!
Good morning from the Rockies of Colorado. Life is good
SNOOP DOG showed up! 😂😂😂 I share the same opinion! Thank you for being a saving grace in todays absolute SWAMP.
Happy Sunday, brother. Pleasant video once again. Brought me memories of my dad as well.
I learned shooting of pistols and rifles and hunting at a very early age. Then, shotguns as well. Some fishing, too. 😊 Firearms safety was always paramount to all. 😊
God bless all here.
For some, we view it as just another chapter in one's existence, but not the final chapter. Knowing and believing that we will see them again, someday, is a comfort.
I have a High Standard .22 just like that one that I got when my dad passed. Mine is the Sears Roebuck version. They're such good shooting guns. I appreciate your videos.
Howdy coming from north of the 49th, It looks so green and warm there. Checked the weather forecast for this week, we're expecting snow here mid week. Its not turning green that quickly here. Thanks for the video.
Western Auto south central Mo. I got a picture of my grandpa and three of my uncles and my dad in the store were he worked. life is good!
Warm memories. Good shooting.
Ya' just gotta luv wheel guns, especially single-action ones.
